  1. If you're in KW - go see Jos down at Angling outfitters. Usually this time of year he is running seminars 1 night a week. Make sure you have a bit of time if you plan on asking him some questions about electronics though,,, he's not one to hold his thoughts in on any fishing related subject, and as for electronics,,,,,, well he does kinda like them.

Agreed, Joc is the man, like they say it`s worth the drive to Woodstock ;)

  2. A lot of what your are looking for is already in a Ranger.

Check out this link to Ranger Boats TV, you get an inside and behind the scenes look at the attention to detail and craftmanship that goes in to these boats and you'll hear a lot of talk about pultrusion which is a Ranger patented product, another thing to consider is also the trailer.

General Link (below) there are 16 videos all together ranging from the timeless classic Fiberglass Vs. Aluminum argument, hull deck lamination, floatation, finishing/rigging and the RangerTrail trailers.

I recently attended the Ranger Advatange plant tour at the end of November and it was very very impressive.

Here's another vid which I'm sure you'd be interested in and many will enjoy of the plant tour I found on YouTube which is very well done -

As any fyi and as a future new boat owner, did you know Ranger Boats can go back and build you a brand new seat for a boat someone purchased as far back as 1968 and match the same stitching, colours and patterns - THAT is impressive and very few if any can do that today.

Hope this helps and have fun!

  3. Though many would find this interesting having recently complete my MED-A3 and SVOP courses, nobody is obligated to tow anyone not even the Coast Guard or Police as you then become liable for any and all damage that occurs to their vessel as well as yours.

  6. Part of the reason for the delay could be your choice of a 75 Yamaha. Since Yamaha introduced their new 70 hp four-stroke two years ago, it has pretty much replaced the 75. You might want to ask about availability on the 70 - they sell a ton of them, so it might be faster than the older 75.

I'm with Craig on this one as he's right.

    PM sent.

  7. I agree as I have one of those vests as well. However if I had to buy a new one or recommend a vest to someone it would not be a PFD but an inflatable lifejecket since there in now one available, the first and only Transport Canada approved inflatable Lifejacket which was introduced by Mustang Survival just this past June and sells for I believe $335. This will ensure you're floating face up should something unfortunate occur and you're knocked unconcious.

  8. Both are solid units, the Simrads are faster, brighter and do have a touch screen. I've played with them a bit and more recently yesterday @ the London show in Angling Outfitters booth.

One thing to consider regarding the Simrads since it is a touch screen like your iPhone or Blackberry Torch is they don't work all that well when your fingers are wet/clammy. So if you don't have a hardtop boat and it's raining out and the screen is getting wet I would expect less than optimal or even frustrating performance. Also try to imagine moving the screen around while your running in a chop and your finger is bouncing on/off the screen.

Just something to consider, hope this helps.

  10. For something a little more budget minded which would allow you to have several for the various techniques I would also recommend taking a look at the new Okuma Dead Eye series walleye rods that are being introduced this spring, 23 rods in the new series.

    Hope this helps.

  11. I recommend giving Joc a call @ Angling Outfitters in Woodstock. He'll answer all of your questions and get you set up with what you need for your style of fishing AND set it all up so it'll be plug & play all at a great price, 519-539-5494.

He carries both Humminbird & Lowrance.

    Cheers G.

  12. I have 2 HDS-8 gen1 units with no complaints, love'em! Love the hot keys to, otherwise you have to go thru the menu items each time in order to adjust colorline, sensitivity, frequency etc.

Had Joc from Angling Outfitters out to speak at our Straitline Anglers club back on January 3rd and he gave us his professional take on the new gen2 units. I would recommend giving him a call to get his thoughts 519-935-5494. I think they're a little "gimmicky", if you want to spend the money on a new unit take a look at the Simrads, 20% fast and brighter.

  13. I would go with the make that you're comfortable with in regards to price & performance but also has a service center nearby which you trust. This is often overlooked by TOO many people cause the day you have to trailer an 1-2hrs to to drop it off then drive home then back again to pick it up when something goes wrong at today's gas prices is the day the feeling of that "sweet deal" you got at time of purchase is quickly forgot and the savings are quickly consumed by your time and fuel prices.

    Just my 2 cents.

Enjoy the process of shopping for your new ride, always fun!

    Cheers,

    G.

  14. Just announced today, Mike Boudreau and Ben Woo have put together another greatl event; The Princecraft Canadian Walleye Open. I would love to fish this event if I had the vacay time but I'm already using a week for the FLW Port Clinton Walleye event and need to save some for the fam and other events.

I am confident this event will fill up on it's own and quickly!

Can't wait to follow this and I believe we need something like this at this level in Canada :D

  15. Thought I'd post for those who are interested.

The Walleye Academy announced today that they have been commissioned by the Spring Fishing & Boat Show to appear at this year’s show taking place February 18th to the 21st at the International Centre in Mississauga.

Hatch, McAllister and Devine will deliver an intense 45 minute forum each day of the Spring Fishing & Boat Show covering both inland and Great Lakes techniques that will awe even the Avid Angler.

Andrew Pallotta of The Spring Fishing & Boat Show goes on to say “The Spring Fishing & Boat Show has always been about the avid angler, and I believe the Walleye Academy will continue to add to the credibility of the show. This year we have decided to bring the Master Angler Seminars into the main floor. All Master Angler Seminars will be hosted on the SUFIX STAGE which will be up front in Hall 5. I believe the Walleye Academy will continue to deliver the information that will uphold the level of the Master Angler Seminars”.

Spending countless days on the water guiding and teaching clients the fundamentals of walleye fishing; NPAA members Sheldon Hatch and Grant McAllister realized that there is a need for a more informative resource when it comes to catching walleye in Ontario. “Far too often we encounter people that have spent hundreds of hours on the water and $1000’s of dollars on equipment and travel only leave with their live wells empty. The Walleye Academy will attempt to bridge that gap” says Hatch. “Our goal is to educate our students on the fundamentals of walleye fishing which they can employ on any body of water and hopefully result in consistent and quality catches” said McAllister.

Based on theoretical study, the Walleye Academy will take place in a classroom setting over a one day period throughout multiple venues in Ontario. Students will be educated on a variety of topics that range from walleye behaviour and location throughout the seasons, introductory and advanced tactics and techniques, reading and interpreting electronics, boat control and bait selection.

“We are both very excited to be a part of the Academy” says McAllister. “Having the opportunity to impart our knowledge to the general public and witness the results of such, is truly inspirational. That’s why we do it.”

  16. NICE!!!

I know you Mentioned Husky jerks and divers.. any colours in particular working better then others?

There really wasn't much of a pattern as we heard from those that did hook-up all had a different color, however for us I'd have to say barenaked Reefer and Rapala glass minnow.

    Cheers G.
