  1. whatever caused those fish to die is a catastrophe! there's going to be some really bad fishing trips in that area!
  2. Thanks for the tips! I have a few small black swivels with snaps I'm going to try. Wish me luck - these are my first Rapala lures. Hopefully they're fish magnets like I've heard!
  3. I only have one rod so I like to tie on leaders to make it easier to swap out lures when I'm fishing different spots on a lake. Does it make it more difficult to catch fish with the leader (i.e. does it scare the fish?). I just bought a new x-rap and clackin rap and I want to try them both this weekend without retying everything. I appeciate any advice...thnx
  4. Thanks for the suggestions guys - they are all good options! Hopefully I can make it this fall!
  5. I'm kind of a newbie. The equipment I've been buying is more suited to bass or pike. So i would say that's what I'd be looking for.
  6. I'm thinking about going to a fishing lodge with some buddies. Can anyone recommend a good one within 3 hours driving distance of Toronto? We'd like to have access to a guide and a boat if possible. Help is appreciated. Thanks
  7. Nice fish! Looks like you had a good day!
  8. Thanks for the tips. Is this considered a top water bait (Challenger Minnow)? It usually sits about 12" below the water when I'm realing it in. (see pic)
  9. I'm a newbie at fishing but I like to get out when ever I can and I'm starting to use a lot of the tips I've learned on this board. I was fishing last weekend at a friend's cottage on Gananoque Lake - didn't have much luck. Does anyone have any tips for fishing that lake? I plan on going back in a few weeks. We have a boat - which helps. Any help is appreciated! Thanks
  10. Killarney is great: http://www.ontarioparks.com/english/kill.html
  11. I was fishing out of Bronte Creek a few weeks ago (around Petro Canada Park) and I caught a few small rock bass but nothing to brag about. Still, it was good being out there all day. After looking at Bronte Creek on Google Maps I can see it goes pretty far north. Does anyone know any good spots on Bronte Creek north of Dundas? I'm thinking about trying it out this weekend.
  12. Has anyone one had any luck top water fishing at Hamilton harbour fishing from shore? I want to try it out.
  13. I'm a newbie too just learning what works and what doesn't (mostly I know what doesn't...haha). All of these posts have given me a lot of good info. Thanks everyone!
  14. I had some luck with them on a small river/creek. I used 3" gulp minnows, a regular hook and regular jig. I just cast and reeled in. That day I caught about 10 small mouth (most under 2 lbs) but they were biting.
  15. Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna try a few different lures and different spots. Just bought some senkos to try - hopefully I pull some fish out with those.
  16. I was fishing last night on Hamilton Bay at Harbourfront Park. Was fishing just up from the boat launch and noticed a lot of weeds so I tried texas rigged soft plastic worm to avoid getting snagged. Also tried a Berkley plastic scented minnow - but no luck with either bait. For anyone who's fished there, what's the best lure to use in that part of the bay? Has anyone got lucky with a spinner bait?
  17. Great pics Jeff! What are area were you fishin in?
  18. Thanks everyone. I'm going to Hamilton Bay a little later today - wish me luck! Hopefully I'll have some good stories soon!
  19. Hey, I'm new to this forum and at the advice of another member I thought I would introduce myself. I'm new to fishing. I went on a fishing trip with some friends near Prescott, Ontario (with borrowed equipment) and had an awesome time and caught a bunch of fish (smallmouth bass I think?). Last week I bought my own rod and a little bit of tackle so I can get in more time fishing. I live in Burlington so most of the fishing I can do is around here unless I take the odd trip. So far I've been to the Burlington lift bridge near Hamilton. I didn't catch any fish but it appears to be a popular spot. Next, I'm going to try a place on the Grand River, near Caledonia my cousin told me about (I think it's a dam). I want to go back to that place on the St. Lawrence river near Prescott. Between me and my four friends we must have caught 30 fish. Most of them were small but we caught the odd 4-5 pounder. If I have any more luck, I'll let you know. Cheers!
  20. Thanks for the advice! I'm new to fishing and just bought equipment within the last few weeks. So at this point I appreciate any help I can get!
  21. I'm a newbie at fishing but I want to start fishing a lot more. I don't have a boat yet, so I still need to fish from land. Are there any fishing spots/lakes/streams within an hour's driving distance of Burlington that I can fish at that have fish that are safe to eat? I'd like to be able to eat some of the fish I catch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
