  1. I have fished right on top of the dam and had a CO check my license, not once did he tell ANYONE they could fish righ infront of the dam, even the owner of the tackle shop does it. I believe you are right about the opener on the May long weekend, that is what I remember last year.

  2. The Raptos can beat the Nets, but the Nets can beat the Raptors as well, this is not going to be cake walk, VC is going to be pumped for this and so will the whole team. If we lose it will be very disappointing , if they lose you will see that team being rebuilt I think. This is a BIG and exciting series to watch for those additional reasons.

  3. I don't start until May and even then it is very challenging to hook into multiples. Lots of big fish but we need a nice warm spell for probably 2 weeks to get them going. This April has been tough for sure as far as cold weather. Give it till May if this warm spell stays with us.

  4. They are constant roamers so timing is every thing. Supposedly when ice moves out, the crappies move in for the false spawn for about 1 week. They leave until the water temps get up for spawning. Cold fronts push them back out into deeper water. They can be tight schoolers and you have to be patient with them. Frozen fire said the right set up, he's caught some nice slabs last year in the spring. Out of doors as a magazine out with a good article on catching spring crappies (as well as others) you should read it. Smallest lightest jigs are key for the tubes.

  5. Well after working almost everyday the past 3 weeks except for 1 day, and seeing the monster pike some OFNers have caught just before the season closes, I was determined to get into some spring pike season this year. Off to the islands and started at Hanlans. LOTS of ice left still. Nothing, no follows just snagged some branches. Went to centre island and casted there mainly and managed to get one to my surprise and then another follow later, but I think it was the first fish only because it had a bad white gash on the back that looked familiar. Also it was weird because the fish took off one way, i went the other way down 40 feet and managed a follow from wha tI believe to be the same fish (must be hungry). Felt great to get my first spring pike on the largest husky jerk I had. Did manage to throw spinners, spoons, crank baits, but it was the husky jerks that worked the best today. Tried Wards and nothing. Still lots of ice in the channels so with the season closing soon, I look foward to when it opens up again. Lots of walking and casting, very tired now, but it was worth it. And yeah the water is freezing cold, the pike almost got away unhooked and I grabbed it by the tail before it had a chance, need to snap a quick pic for proof.... and here she is:

  6. Bought a 2 piece med hvy 7 ft st croix musky rod and a glow in the dark thunderstick. One thing I dlearned is that once company's actions is not the same as another. This rod was stiffer and rated for heavier line and weight than a heavy action shimano rod of similar specs, very intersting. They felt very different also, the st croix was much nicer. Got 2 free hats and a key chain also

  7. Side arm for sure. You need to keep your rod tip down and slack out otherwise the fish may throw your bait. If you set the hookup, you need to bring your rod tip down anyway, setting sideways skips that step. If the fish misses, the bait may still be at the same level in the water coloumn, seting the hook up may pull the bait out of the water. My 2 cents
