  1. So let me get this straight....

You guys get up in the middle of the night, crawl out of bed leaving behind a nice warm wife to go set your donkey down in a cardboard box on a frozen lake?

Yup!.. Everything except for the cardboard box!

Oh, and the nice warm wife...

  2. Good luck, FinS. I hope you guys get yourselves a season out there.

I used to ice-fish with my Uncle on St. Clair years ago( Stoney Point? )so I have a soft spot for the lake. Most of my ice-fishing now is done on Lake Simcoe( Cooks Bay )which usually freezes nice and early, except for this year, of course.

  3. Too bad but these shows haven't really adjusted to the changing times.

I think years ago, these kinds of shows were all we had to gain product information( as well as entertainment ). But let's face it, you can go to a fishing show anytime you want.. just go to BassPro!

And, as for gaining product information, we now can research products on our computers!

Shows that increase their admission and parking charges, sell booth space to vendors that have nothing to do with the theme of the show, etc., are really missing the boat. Excuse the pun...

  4. Give it a bit of time, ATF. You're a fisherman. Be patient.

Anyhoo, my understanding is that Steelhead that enter the streams in the fall and reside there over winter are fish who are reacting to spring-like conditions.. ie high water levels and cool temperatures. It's like a big false run, I guess.

  5. I do not 'support' local tackle shops. Rather, I give my bussiness to local tackle shops IF they've earned it.

The "little guy" who puts up a sign, stacks a few shelves with the same tackle I can get at a chain store for a lower price hasn't earned my business. Sorry. I feel no more duty to 'support' them than they would to support me if I needed it.

Now, give me an enhanced shopping experience with things like; a deep product selection, specialty items I can't find at most other places, open early weekend mornings with live bait, a good staff with lots of local knowledge, etc., and I'm there!

Notice I never even mentioned prices! Too many times, small retailers think this is the ONLY reason people shop at one place over another.

  6. Unless it's warranty work( which it won't be with a vehicle the age of yours ), NEVER get it seviced at the dealership! Local garages will always be waaaaaaaaay cheaper. Heck, even the GM Service Advisor told ya to go to a garage!

Goodluck with it and may you need no more repairs for a long time!

  7. That's funny that you mentioned your sighting Magum because the last coyote I saw was last year in the area you mentioned. It was at the top Mt. Albion Road in the Redhill Creek area. Thought it was pretty cool to see. With all the construction though, I'll bet they'll be pushed out of the Redhill Creek area before long.

  8. ...that deal to bring Pass Pro Shop to the Buffalo waterfront as part of huge multi-million dollar re-development project is off.

I guess the waterfront re-delelopment will go ahead, just not with Bass Pro. It still could be a negotiating tool being used by Bass Pro, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I could see a lot of their customers coming from the Hamilton and Niagara area.
