  1. Maybe a bit early but starting my home work ahead of time can't hurt too much.

Most of the neighbors have already replaced the shingles on their roofs. Few including me haven't done it yet. All houses on the street were built about the same time withing a year (11 years ago).

I've read some old posts here (Big Cliff the latest) but can use more specific information pretending to my particular house...house is over 3300 sq. feet including finished basement. Asume about 1100 sq. feet per floor. House is in North West GTA/North Halton.

As I said 11.5 years old. No leaks but wife says she has noticed some shingles curling on the garage roof. So it maybe getting close to the time of replacement. Question is with WHAT?

Simplest and cheapest I assume will be to put shingles again. But curious to see how much more would be to use metal/aluminum roof instead? Not sure how long we'll stay in the house...not planing any moves at this time but who knows what happens few years from now.

Roof is fairly steep, not sure of exact pitch. There must be roof experts who are members here and can hopefully shed some light on the issue. Even offer a quote?

Below is Google space shot of the roof if it helps.

Would appreciate any advice and input you may have...I understand there are different varieties of metal roof, different thickness, but all more of less with life time warranty?

Trying to figure out if it is worth paying bit extra not to have it to repeat this exercise again in future.

Feel free to PM me if you wish.

    Thanks,

  2. Was that you that I talked to at True Canadian Outdoors? We talked about the Meegs, the Vibrato and our kids.

I ended up buying a Vibrato and almost immediately regretted it.

Well small world and it rotates Bud....yep it was me....I am going to put mine for sale on Kijiji ha ha ha ;-) I can think of few better ways to spend $17 :worthy::wallbash:

See if they agree we return them for half price

  3. This one was very quick....first thing in the morning....walking in the dark...fishing by 7:20am....by 7:40 I had my limit of white fish....for the next little while got few more....final score was 14/16. Wind became very strong so no reason to freeze and left really early. Interesting point today was when one of the white fish was so eager to come and say "Hi" it kicked so hard with its tail and catapulted itself right out of the hole and started flipping on the ice with no help at all from my side...ha ha ha

Bought one of the Vibrato lures yesterday. Lots of rumors about it in the last couple years so I thought I should test it and see myself....Would never pay again $15 +tax for a jigging lure....used for about an hour....got one whitie on it and 2-3 bumps....not as good as people say it is....not for white fish anyways...maybe it works better on lakers but I could care less for them...Seems it is just marketing hype.....anyhow....wasted money as far as I am concerned....will never buy another one. Have 100 times more success with the Meegs...and can buy 6-7 Meegs (special price;-) for the price of one overvalued Vbrato. Oh well....learning as we go...

Here is the daily portion of fish enjoyment for your eyes only ;-) Sorry but many of the whities today were camera shy and didn't stay still for many of the shots, hence the out of focus pictures....

  4. Thanks Wayne. I'll use my digital scale to wait the tank after filling it. But what if it gets overfilled by then....I guess I have to connect it and burn some of it before transporting it? And how much of an issue that is in winter when temps should actually help by preventing expansion of the gas inside? Maybe more of issue in the summer...but even then the valve should release the extra pressure should it occur.

Btw I wish you've got some of those adapters so I can buy one from you now ;-)

  5. Does Princess Auto or some other place sell them in the GTA to avoid the drive again to Barrie before my next fishing trip?

Also isn't that the same hose I use for connecting my 20 lbs tank to my camping cooking stove or my camping propane lantern?

If so I have it and will not need to spend on it.

    Thanks.

  6.

How do you work those jigs?

Beers on me if you teach me the way. Looks like a brilliant day of fishin

Cut the head of the tube so you can slide it on top of the Meegs from starting at the tip of the hook and push it onto the Meegs. Turn it around to align the black back of the tube with the black back of the Meeg. Once tube is on the Meeg the friction will keep it there so no need to glue anything. Sometime I cut a bit from the tail of the Meegs as Whities like to grab on them if too long.

Jigging it is not that difficult but it take some time to master....jig right over the bottom....3-4 times...then lift 2-3 feet up and crush it back to the bottom....wait 2 sec and jig again 3-4 times slow motion short strikes right above bottom....then repeat....some days they want more delicate jig some days with more movement...you adjust accordingly...once you figure it out the best way to catch whities and lakers...love it....

It is all pretty simple....the jigging action is the most critical part.

    Good luck.

  7. Thanks guys. Was at Cabelas on Friday and bought new St. Croix ice rod....damn....wish I knew they sell the adapter as well so I don't make a special trip for it.

    Oh well...

Do I really need that filter too? I was reading if you stop gas flow from the 20 lb tank valve first and let gar in hose burn you don't need the filter?

  8. What kind of hut was it? I thought some of the huts - especially the flip overs, are too low for good hook sets.

    Sleepjigging

It is a flip over one man hut....rather small. I never fish in a hut but friend gave it to me and mostly took it out for my son as it was raining for few hours in the morning.

Oh what a surprise, Emil caught whitefish on the ice :)

Good for you bud, can't believe how many gobies in that fishes' stomach, wow!!!!

    Well done bud!

Thanks Joey.Haven't seen each other for a while. Hope to see you this season.

  9. Thank you for your advice icefisherman. Helped me to put 3 whitie and 3 lakers on the ice today.

Costa my pleasure my friend. Glad you did well. Once you figure the action on the Meegs it is the most productive lure....and you never snag a fish with a Meeg.

Beer is on you next time we run into each other ha ha

  10. Took my older son with me today and headed back to Simcoe. Couldn't resist the nice weather forecast....even the rain couldn't spoil our fun....whities were there ready for the show first thing in the morning...Meegs lures were on the menu again. White fish never gets tired of them. Tried to get them in the one man hut a friend gave me recently but my new St. Croix ice rod at 36" was too long for the small hut and kept hitting the ceiling when trying to nail them. So after loosing 4 in a row.....enough with that...left my son in the hut and I ventured outside in the rain ha ha ha...drilled a hole 20 feet away from the hut ...first 2-3 jigs bammm...white fish came to say "hi" on the ice....from there it went great for about an hour...than slow down for another hour so more drilling was in order. And for the last hour bunch more came out to play as well. Final score was 9/14. Good friends drove us back to shore at around Noon and that is all she wrote for the day....stopped and bought myself a new Buddy heater and can't wait to try it next time it is -25 outside ha ha.

  11. NAW,

I do have few Williams spoons in my tackle box but have not used them at all for the pat couple years. Only use them when I cannot get them on the Meegs. And I usually do get them on Meegs. Much more pleasant and faster way to fish. Once one figure the jigging action of the Meegs no need to bother with the Williams.

Let me know if you need I can hook you up with James himself the maker of those lures. He just did a large batch...drying out as I write this. Shouldn't be a problem to get some directly from him.

  12. Well it is this time of the year again....white fish have been asking for me so I obliged and went to check them out. They didn't disappoint...what a kick start of the season....9/16 final score...a bit rusty but by next time should increase the icing ratio ;-)

Good old Meegs lures did the trick as always...Amazing how fast I got surrounded by others....can't figure out how people find out so quickly I am catching fish and with no hesitation pile up on top of me....waooo....

We had dog with us today as seen on some of the pictures but some people noses worked better than the dog's ha ha ha.

Anyhow, season started on the right foot...fresh whities for dinner...how could one ask for more.

About 5" of good ice under us. Some spots by the shore was 2" though...so not ready for machines yet.

  13. Someone gave me portable hut for ice fishing couple years ago. Never used it once as I walk ( don't own a snow machine). This thing is heavy to pull by myself.
Anyhow, don't mind giving it to someone who can use it... for free.
You'll need to pick it up.
Feel free to PM with questions.

  14. Well the time has come...after 9 years one of my Sears DieHard deep cycle batteries gave me problems on Saturday. Had to use jumper cable and the other battery to start my main motor at end of day. So I am thinking it maybe time to replace both of them, Both were made in 2005.

Any idea where can I find same battery? Needles to say I am happy with them and see no reason to change.

If they are not available locally my other choice would be the Costco ones as they come with very good warranty and decent price.

    Any other ideas or comments?

    Thanks,

    Ice Fisherman
