  1. Thanks guys...not big fan of the cable ties solution...it'll look crappy...

How about this idea....remove the rack...clean underside of fender...sand it lightly...apply couple layers of much wider fiberglass cloth/raisin ...sandwich big washer in between the layers...let it dry....drill the hole through the fiberglass and mount it back all together...maybe drill small hole as you suggested to prevent cracking further...

Will fiberglass be better to use in this case than JB weld? Considering vibrations...cold...etc.?

By the way no issue for fiberglass to cure in this cold temps?

  2. After so many years walking so many kilometers for ice fishing I finally had enough and bought myself an early Christmas present - 2010 Yamaha Grizzly 700.

There is a small crack in the front right fender around one of the mounting points for the front rack.

Read about ways to repair it but opinions I seen are all over...fiberglass...epoxy...plastic weld...big washer...you name it....

So I'd like to tap into the forum's collective knowledge. I am sure some of you guys had to deal with similar problem.

Would appreciate your advise and comments on best way to fix it.

  3. Guys,

Keep reading here about Krown, Rust check etc. People with various experience with one or the other...

I'd suggest do yourself a favor, forget and stay away from both!

About a month ago faced with the same dilemma how to best protect my F150 I spent tons of time researching this issue.

The proven answer is Corrosion Free. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjn46642K_JAhXIGB4KHSDJCUQQFggcMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.corrosionfree.com%2F&usg=AFQjCNFplKN5qA-iNy_d2zH_U7L4w5y6IA&sig2=MrjCJnjK4vib-QlsOsd2KQ

    - no drilling anything anywhere

    - not dripping anything

    - Tested and proven as best corrosion protection by no other but the Canadian Army "Defense Research and Development Canada". Actual report is here:http://cradpdf.drdc-rddc.gc.ca/PDFS/unc53/p526285.pdf

For those with no time to read summary and conclusions can be found here: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjjpaKysq_JAhULJB4KHZesDrgQFgg2MAM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.howtosavemoney.ca%2Fwhich-rust-proofing-service-is-best&usg=AFQjCNFghirs2GC2v9z_HvVb6TMADGBl_w&sig2=nYbewth-oSStjvJKSY2DHA

    - only need reapplication every 18 months (not every 12 like the others). Therefore much cheaper on the long run and cost you less time overall.

I used and can strongly recommend a guy in Mississauga...gave me super deal on the truck and spent close to 2 hrs spraying every single visible and invisible spot one can imagine....what a great service!

As the guy said "Why drilling holes if manufacturer provided enough of them, plugged but available if needed". Krown and Rust Check are simply to lazy to open the rubber grommets one by one spray in all cavities and close them again...it takes time but this is the way to do it. As I said I watched in complete amazement how this guy climbed under, over and anywhere in between my truck but didn't leave a millimeter anywhere that was not sprayed. Not a drop on my driveway. No need to go "drive on dusty roads crap" etc ;-)

Really happy...will gladly do it again in 18 months.

    Ice Fisherman

  4. Yep,

the only WM store remaining open (until this time next year) is the Oakville one. Good ting it is the closest one to me. When I was there last week isles were full of skids coming from the other stores to be sold in Oakville.

Do you have a link for the cushion you are referring to see if Oakville store has it or can order it quickly?

Porkpie, I'll PM you Bud. Would love to chat with you about using this boat for duck hunting. Starting building the blind tomorrow. Just got all the materials and design.

Here is how I am thinking of doing the oars. With some bungees.

They don't fit in the holes of the front rod holders.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  5. Thought about that but don't want to get too high up above the boat blind I am in the process of building. The lower I stay the better.

I am even considering getting some camp stools to use in between the bench seats but the 2 or 2 I bought were not suitable for my application.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  6. Just bought 14' Starcraft SF14 to use for duck hunting only. Comes with bench seats made of aluminum under which is the flotation material.

Boat and seat in perfect condition but I am thinking of ways to cover them with something to insulate my but when sitting on them in the marsh.

Marine plywood is way to pricey for this purpose...

Maybe regular plywood but sealed with something?

Was even thinking of using some of that foam people use to walk on in their home exercise rooms, but not sure: a) hoe it will do in the cold/rain/snow and B) will it absorb water?

How about any other natural wood material? Or any artificial covering?

    Or outdoor cushion pad?

    Would appreciate ideas/suggestions.

    Ice Fisherman

  7. Well sent quote request to Livinston last night...reply with 2 quotes came in:

    - $1,234 Edmonton terminal to Vaughan terminal include: (fuel surcharge, insurance and applicable taxes.) 9 days delivery time

    - $1354 Edmonton terminal to my house (fuel surcharge, insurance and applicable taxes.) time here varies a bit.

I think both quotes are by rail but sent them clarifying email back to confirm.

Better price than last quotes I got using truck transporters.

Sent request to AutoDriveWay.com to see what they offer.

Bill it is the 5.0L V8 engine.

    Cheers,

  8. It is Wayne...it took me 3 months of daily search....lets just say same truck will be significantly higher priced here in ON...you are right F150's everywhere...but check what price they sell for vs. the provinces West of ON.

Well worth the exercise, but would be nice if I get it shipped by train to the terminal in Toronto instead of spending 3 days of flying there and driving it back 3,600 km :worthy:

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  9. Yes I've sent quote request to Livingston and bunch others. Haven't heard back from them yet.

$1200+ HST comes to almost $1,400 which is roughly $600 more than me flying there and driving it back....was hoping for shipping price around or under $1,000.

And have a feeling if I manage to get a real rail shipping quote (terminal to terminal) price may get in that range....just having a heck of a time figuring out how to get rail quote when everyone seems to be pushing very hard over the road transportation for some reason.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  10. OK, here is a good question guys. Hope the collective forum wisdom come up with valuable ideas...

Buying a new for me F150 from Edmonton and need to find least expensive way to get it to here in the GTA.

All prices I got quoted so far are in the $1,200-$2,000 + HST range.Strangle enough all those companies who quoted me seem to be pushing the car transport trucks method even though I specifically asked them for quote using rail/train transport as I suspect it'll be cheaper that way.

Having hard time getting quotes only based on rail transport terminal to terminal....

Last option will be to fly there and drive it back but prefer to avoid the 36 hrs driving back and wasting 3 days on return trip.

Anyhow....any ideas...or even prices if some here have done similar thing in the recent past?

    Thanks,

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  11. When at the launch yesterday I noticed while squeezing the primer ball fuel spitting out of the throttle body of my 2000 Suzuki DT115 fuel Injection motor. It came out of the small hole in the picture below. Run it to the spot and back and motor run fine otherwise. Just tried the same exercise in my garage again and when squeezing the ball no fuel came out this time.

What could be the reason? Just some gumming after the winter storage that burnt out on its own after running it or is it something I should be worried about and take it to Suzuki outboard mechanic? Anything I can do myself to prevent this from happening again?

    Thanks.

  12. Friend just booked week in July at Cosy Cove Cottages on Nippising....and is trying to get me to do the same...when I do summer vacation issue number 1 is if fishing is excellent....if not I don't bother as I have plenty of places to go where it is....so would appreciate if others have been there and can share experience how fishing is and how the place itself is.. Will be dragging my boat there with full down rigging equipment on it.

    Lots of walleye I hope?;-)

  13. Don't think the problem is with the AB...

I am not touching my AB and when I use IE bamm no problem visiting the site....With exact same settings and not changing anything I try Chrome and it doesn't allow me access....all I see is the very top of the site. Nothing below the top six button bellow the Ontario Fishing Community sign.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  14. Yep something for sure must have been changed on the site....as I said I have used it for ever with Chrome, up until a week ago....and had AB for much longer than a week and site was working fine....so something fairly recent was done to to the site....also this is the only site I have this problem with. All the other fishing/hunting sites also use ads but I have no issue visiting them while having AB.

    Thanks Roy,

please see if you can sort this out.,

Worse comes to worst I'll just visit less frequent and only using IE for when I need to visit. Like Wayne I guess good I kept it even though I don't use it.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  15. Someone please fix this.

Had to log in with IE to post this. Site hasn't opened for the past 4-5 days in Chrome....I too have AB but it has worked fine with it in the past so someone must have changed/done something to this site in past week or so.

Hope it is corrected as I prefer using Chrome and don't want to disable AB.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  16. Make yourself raised bed...fill it in with sheep compost. Dig it up/mix it with your regular soil well...brake it in small pieces. Build yourself a tunnel...cover it with plastic sheets. Plant immediately (you are about 2-3 weeks late) indoors tomato seeds. Best tomatoes I recommend are the pink brandywine type. Sometime in April start taking them out couple hours per day first and slowly increase so they get used to the temps and sun outside. By end of April plant outside in the tunnel. That way you beet the short Canadian growing season by about a month. You'll need that month in the fall. About that time buy and plant indoor cucumber seeds (dill pickles are the best)...they'll be ready to plant outside by mid May to May 20th. Make sure you have plenty of sun....water regularly....keep weeds out...clean out tomato plants by braking of the pieces that grow between the main trunk and the leaves. You can go buy seedlings from hot pepper (Ghost pepper is what I recommend if you like hot). In the fall before ground freezes buy local grown garlic and plant it....leave it in the ground over winter....next year in July you'll have perfect garlic...recommend Melody brand....make sure you buy from green houses some parsley, celery, basil seedlings and plant them as well around May 24 weekend. If you do all of the above every year you'd love the hoby and start eating some top quality vegitables and herbs not the garbage that is sold in the stores.

Here are few pictures to get you motivated from my own garden:
