  1. What kinda boat you got ice?

    misfish,

I'll be in a 16' white Peterborough with 60HP Johnson on the back.

I'll be launching from JP or Sibbalds PP.

Will be watching the weather tonight, as I am considering going on Sunday vs. Saturday.

Should be only 10K wind on Sunday...if you can ever believe the weatherman though :whistling::thumbsup_anim:

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  2. It's this time of year again...Simcoe opener tomorrow...bright and early in the morning.

Anyone heading that way? It'll be nice to see some familiar faces.

Speaking of the gas prices though, and my wife not willing to get up early in the morning I could use a partner in the boat tomorrow. Preferably from the West side of GTA. Someone willing to split the trip cost and early riser :whistling: feel free to PM me with your contact info. I'd say good fighting chance to get few nice fish in the boat ;-)

The sooner we make plans the better.

Good luck to all who are going tomorrow and hope to see lots of you on the lake.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  3. I hope you saved some for the rest of us!

Wow, I hadn't planned on going back to Port D for a while but I may... maybe... what are you doing on the long weekend?

    -Brian

Brian, what else could I be doing but fishing?;-)) :Gonefishing: The only thing I am not sure is....Simcoe of Lake O. :thumbsup_anim:

Way to go buddy.....Glad to see everything got installed and works good.....We'll do that Simcoe thing next week.....Just call ahead.......TC and tight lines.....Chuck....

    Chevy,

I'll give you a call next week.....few days ahead for sure.

    Good Job Emil,

200-265 of water... just curious, how come you decided to fish that deep?

I don't think i've ever fished them that deep

    Awesome job on the fish

    Uncle Buck.

I was where the fish is....and so were the other boats.

I've done same thing last year in more then 330 fow.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  4. I know...I know...I haven't been posting reports since ice out time on Simcoe but I promise to correct this in very short order ;-) Finally got my boat on the water and what a day I had...waoooo...

OK here it goes ...started fishing about 7:30am...missed the first one about 9am...first fish in the boat at 10 am… nice King at 7 Lbs.

Second one was a shaker - 4 Lbs Coho 20 min later.

    IMGA1914.jpg

    Then missed two more ...

Right when I was about to leave the show started....and it was a SHOW let me tell you!!!

At one point I had double header with two fish on two rods and me alone in the boat...good thing I had just spooled brand new 30 Lbs. Power pro...Let one fish go for a run and kept reeling in loose line from time to time while fighting the other one on the other rod at the same time.

20 min later I had twins Kings at 9.5Lbs each.

    IMGA1912.jpg

As soon as I reset my lines bammmm...the fish of the day....16.5 Lbs King...officially weighted on the scale at the fish and game club.

    IMGA1911.jpg

At this time I felt like I could get in to few more double headers as I finally found them. They were right under the boat and there was no one near me.

But it was time to head back, so I can do an hour worth of work today;-)

    IMGA1915.jpg

So, beautiful day on the water...first 4 hours very calm nor a ripple on the water...but tons of flies everywhere...then light breeze came out and scare the flies away. Nice start of my boat season. Now on to Simcoe opener for some lakers/whities ;-)

Opsss...almost forgot...fished in 200-265 fow, 35-65 feet down. All fish came on my new riggers. 20-30 feet of line behind the ball. 2.0-2.4 mph.

NK spoons only - purple/black, blue/white and fire tiger.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  5. Before you buy a tire at a place like Princess Auto, check the load rating of your current tire. I was planning to purchase a tire there but realized it was cheaper because it was rated lower. I bought a replacement at Canadian Tire, they do come on sale there every now and again. I've also used inner tubes before if the rubber is good, no problems. Andy

Well I just came back from CT...they will give me the sale price even though the sale was over last week. Sale price will be $73. A bit pricey I thought...this includes the rim though.......tire only (special order) is $62 but I am sure they'll charge me good for putting it on and will endup more expensive at the end.

As I said earlier my current tires are rated at 1045 Lbs. I have 16' fiberglass with 60HP motor on it and it is quite heavy rig. Not sure what the CT tire was rated for or those ar Princess Auto.

Canadian Tire ones says "Super Sport" on the side.

Can I only replace one tire or do I have to do both at the same time?

Just trying to save some money as those tires are as expensive as the ones for my car :wallbash::worthy:

Or I might just try to repair the old one as it has no cracks, good thread left on it and a local shop asked me for $25 to repair it.

Thanks for all your replies guys.

  6. My boat trailer has two of the 5.30-12 tires.

It says: Sure Trail ST, Carlisle, Max Load 1045 Lbs at 80 psi, 2 plies on it.

One of them has been giving me problems over the past year by slowly loosing air. It is totaly flat now again. Not sure where can I get a good price on new tires/wheels with tires on them/

Is it worth repairing the bad one now, or just replacing both tires at the same time?

What would be good price on a new tire or tire with wheel?

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  7. Jigger,

I did this carpet project on my boat last year and used Home Depot outdoor carpet. There was plenty os choice in colors and design and price was good. The only thing I'd suggest is get one that has flat surface so it doesn't collect much dirt.

Other then that mine is like new a year later.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  8. Hi Guys,

I am considering buying one year old Eagle FishMark™ 480 fish finder.

After all the negotiation I got the price down to $150.

Unit is is great condition and comes with trandsducer and power cords.

Do you think it's a good deal?

I need to confirm with the seller ASAP so hope someone can advice me on this quickly.

I have an old 515 Humminbird I've been thinking to replace for a while....the old one is working fine but I'd like to upgrade a bit and get more resolution without having to spend 2 arms and 3 legs on a $700-$800 new color Lawrence unit.

I've been considering those for a while, including the ones that come with fishfiner and GPS but maybe for my new boat ....one day;-)

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  9. Not for the opener but we are heading in at the end of May for four days. Can't wait. Cookslav you going in?

    Hey Nemo,

if this is an open invitation I might join you...I'll be back in the park end of August (after great time we had last August on Opeongo I can not resist repeating it;-). This year it'll be just me and now 2 year old son.

I'd love to go deep in the interior myself though before that...it'll be nice to go for the first time with someone more experienced in Algonquin interior...and knowing you as such (including great fisherman) I can not think of a better choice ...so yes....if you have spot for me let me know :Gonefishing:

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  10. Yes, I've been using one with my boat and 60HP Johnson. It does a great job...slows me down so much I have to increase the throttle a bit to get the right speed. Tried the sock and didn't like it as it makes steering the boat very hard especially while trolling.

The only down side of the trolling plate for me is I burn more gas that way.

Tried a kicker motor last fall but got a short shaft and I needed a long ...so had to sell it.

I guess is I find a good deal on a long shaft kicker I'll go for it but until then my trolling plate is ready for another season ;-)

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  11. OK guys,

I didn't want to get involved more in to this "bating" tactics used above, but come on ...enough already!

Do I really owe you any explanation as to what I do in my private life? I posted my results for the benefit of members and posting makes this forum useful to others. I have done nothing illegal, period. Got my daily limit, got home, cooked it, eat it, went again the next day and got my limit again. Do you feel better now?

Do I need to explain or ask for your permission when I invite my neighbours and friends for dinner with white fish and beer? Do you really thing I owe you ANY explanation at all?

I don't think so. Or maybe if I invited you to share my dinner and check my refrigerator it would have made you feel better?

Flaming cause people not to post their reports.

    Will you feel better then?

If you are jealous I did well fishing, too bad to sad for you.

Get a life, go fishing, enjoy yourself out there....there are better things in life then pocking your nose in other people private affairs.

After all I am not a big fan of the "Big brother state” concept.

With that being said...hope you all have a great boat season soon :Gonefishing:

P.S. Wayne appreciate the words of wisdom and reason you've posted above.

    Cheers,

    Ice Fisherman

  12. Well...even the best things eventually come to an end.

Started my last ice trip for the season at 6am start in complete darkness.

    4.5 km walk...at the spot exactly 7:05am.

Some spots are bare ice and you need spikes, others are snow with lots of water under it.

And others are just slush and a lot of it.

Oh well...good thing I traveled light today...no survival suit...no extra stuff.

In the first 30 min got a huge laker...while trying to grab it, it got unhooked and back in to the water...well...no biggy...I knew more action is coming ;-)

By 9 am got my white fish limit one more time and was ready for the walk back.

4.5 km again...and it took me exactly the same time though I was overloaded with the fish ha ha.

Here is today’s picture ;-) Enjoy!

    13-03-07_1006.jpg

So boys and girls...you've got 2 more days of action...go out and get them ;-)

As for me....the seasons is mostly over...may do one perch trip in the next week or two as we'll have good ice for a while. This is my first and only ice season I haven't done any perch fishing. Maybe I should do one perching day ;-)

Boat time now...starting to get some trolling/downrigging stuff in order. Anyone having good used manual rigger for sale let me know please. Also need a second downrigging rod/reel and I'll be set to go on the Bid O and Erie ;-)

Cheers and see you on the soft water ;-)

  13. Nice going Emil,

We needed you on Saturday... although we didn't have enough time on the ice, we struck out.

Maybe next year we should hook-up. We'll get you out there and you find them. And if you don't find them.... hehehe ;):P

    Hey Brian,

Congratulation first on your new boat Bud. Looks great.

Not to worry about the ice fishing thing...boat fishing is coming shortly ha ha...stopped at the Bass Pro today, got some small staff...trying to get ready.

Knowing you are good and resourcefull with the trolling equipment let me know if you see good used manual downrigger and rod/reel combo. I need a second set of the the above.

You know the price range I am looking to spend.

And yes next year we'll do a proper ice trip with you.

Hope I get a snowmobile by then ;-)

    Wayne,

Nope...this is it for my ice fishing season...may try one perching day in the next week or two as ice allows since this is my first ice season without any perch trip so fat. But other then that I am done with the ice. Now let's talk about those boats ;-)

    Cheers,

  14. Boy is it nice when someone takes you on the snow machine so I don't have to walk km's and waste valuable fishing time...Compliments to RR for the ride and to him and Rick for the great company today...

Did we start early today of what...and I mean EARLY ha ha....like 6am early on the ice ;-)

6:30 on the spot...short wait to see where exactly we are...then about an hour of test drilling in the area until we found them....after that...oh well you know the story by now ;-)

While I kept hooking and loosing them, including releasing the small ones....Rick and Don got each quick limit...since I hate catching them very quickly and having to go home after that I took longer ;-)...one whitie even swam away with my Meegs lure...

I'd like to have one last kick at the can tomorrow...and am looking to go with someone with a machine to save me the long walk...in exchange I feel we can find the right spot and get one more quick limit....

Hope by next ice season I have my own machine and don't have to ask any more...Yes Don...I have the one you told me about under very serious consideration...Rick was going to take me but his sled had a small technical problem today and I am not sure if he can give a ride tomorrow....So if someone wants to go please PM me...

    Anyhow....back to the fishing today...

We give the lakers fair try but no luck there...

Maybe tomorrow...who knows...not easy to get double limit ;-)

Again thanks for the nice time Rick and Don.

Here are few pictures courtesy of Don's camera...they do look better then my cell phone pictures;-)

I am sure Don can add some of his own...

  15. I've started fishing for the big boys in the big O and Errie waters last year.

Planning to start early and be more regular this year.Need to get myself another downrigger and second rod/reel combo and I'll be set to go. Always looking for good company on the water as well.

Here is a nice one from last August on Lake O.

  16. ...Sorry but I have to repeat myself from the day before yesterday;-)

Nice weather, beautiful day...a bit of East wind in the morning but almost calm later...Yes who said we can not catch fish in East wind?!!? ;-)

Started at 7am and was done with my whities limit by 8am...could have been earlier if I was about 100' west ;-) Oh well...Rhybak was quicker...I finished after him and his friend Jim shortly after me...it almost felt like....well...a bit of disappointment...driving 1:45 hour and only fishing 1 hour...so I packed ...said Good bye to Rhybak and Jim and ...went looking for lakers...drilled tons of holes in all kinds of dept but no luck on lakers today...oh well...let's not be too greedy ha ha....Beer in the fridge and whities for dinner...can't complain...

Rhybak,...it was great to fish together again thanks for the great company, hope we'll do it again soon...good luck chasing the lakers /crappies on the weekend...

Even it was early and the sun just came up the pictures we took with my cell phone camera are not bad...

    Enjoy...

  17. Finally a fishing day I've been looking for for awhile...enough of that one day good bite next three trips poor....today was the day....great weather...my first day with no wind at all in the morning...and fish cooperated ....

Got lots of whities...the limit and 5 more released....4 hooked but lost...

Got a nice laker 9 Lbs. tried for one more but kept getting whities no matter what dept I tried....

All in all....it was nice trip ...will try few more in the remaining week before season close.

All fish caught on Meegs in the presence of James himself ha ha. Thanks for the company James and his friends. Looking forward to that Algonquin trip in the summer Bud.

    Here are few pictures....

  18. Guys I don;t understand why so late for you...I've sent the documents for my wife's and my son's passports on Jan 16 and got them back on the 7 of Feb.

I went in person to the Mississauga office.

A bil longer then usual but about 20 days before they travel to Europe.

There is a trick to get to live operator - do not press the button to check status but go for "quaetions about your application" The person who answers can get you all the info.

Hope this helps Nemo and th rest of you still waiting...

    Cheers,
