  1. I believe the MNR has little interest in allowing people to use these exemptions. As some of you know I became disabled over a decade ago and had questions about proving this will fishing. I went to the MNR both at the sportsman show and asked a CO and was told the only thing to use was my accessible parking pass. Were I launch my boat in IBP there is handicap parking which I need or I go home because I can't walk from the back parking lot. Senior's use them up because they believe they are for them but that's another rant. So I ask if a photocopy of the parking pass will do. No NO I must decide between parking or fishing. I've bought a fishing licence every year and too many years I don't even make it out in spite of hoping to.

I think they put this exemption in the regulations just to look good, to look less like a money grab but have know intention of letting people use it.

Good luck, good fishing and good on you for taking your buddy out. :clapping:

the rules state that a black and white copy of of your parking pass is sufficient to show the mnr while fishing here is the ontario govt site

    https://www.ontario.ca/faq/do-i-need-fishing-licence-if-i-have-disability

  2. Yes , I think the point he is making is if you don't have someone with you assisting you. Then you are able to fish by yourself and so your handicap sticker doesn't allow you to fish license free

thank you thats good to know i think i stopped reading it when it didnt suit me lol

    my bad learned something new

  3. i think this would be a good time to remind people

What are the penalties for impaired boating?

Boaters caught drinking and boating in Ontario face consequences similar to those for drinking and driving:

    • Immediate 3, 7 or 30 day driver's licence suspension if caught with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in the "warn range” of 0.05 to 0.08 and for drivers impaired by drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol based on the results of a Standard Field Sobriety Test. Drivers caught in the "warn range" more than once will face a mandatory alcohol education program and could be subject to treatment programs and ignition interlock.
    • Immediate 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and a $198 administrative fine for boaters exceeding the “legal limit” of 0.08 BAC drivers who fail or refuse to provide a breath or blood sample and drivers who are impaired by drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol based on the results of a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.
    • If convicted under the Criminal Code, the boater will also face:
      • Driver's licence suspension, from one year up to a lifetime ban
      • Mandatory alcohol assessment, education or treatment, and follow-up
      • Ignition interlock condition on their driver's licence for one year to up to a lifetime
      • Vehicle impoundment if caught driving a motor vehicle while under suspension

These sanctions apply to anyone who is caught drinking and operating motorized and non-motorized vessels, including power boats, canoes, kayaks, personal watercraft, sailboats, rafts, dinghies and other inflatable boats.

  4. They will change it the year after I turn 65. Unless you turn 65 in the winter and don't ice fish you still need to buy a licence for that time you are 64. I am thinking once you turn 65 you don't need to show the Outdoors Card just I.D. proving age. Am I correct guys?

I was told by someone in the know they are going to crack down on using a Disabled Permit or proof of a disability to exempt oneself from getting a license.

what do you mean crack down on using a Disabled Permit or proof of a disability to exempt oneself from getting a license.

  5. Does anybody know what exactly they dive into with the background check? Is it only a criminal check unless there's a ex involved?

they will also want to check on medical records to do with

depression ptsd and other things that have involved care and/or drugs you took/take

i have ptsd and due to my medication i am not able to get my pal

but i did take the hunter course in my late 40's and now hunt with my crossbow

i do still have a hunters course book and would be willing to give it to anyone who wants it

  7. it

so they are designed to be reeled in on their sides, like a flat fish on the surface....

yep, another koppers live target bait designed to catch fisherman.

when was the last time you saw a fish just cruising alone, on its side, on the surface, lol.
