  1. Hey guys...heading up to the Gogama/Timmins area for some pike and pickerel. Been there a few years running now, but haven't been too successful in terms of the walleye. It's my own fault because I fish weedy bays because that's what I'm used to. I want to target the pickerel deeper down and in this months OOD mag they discuss using a bottom bouncer with a warm harness and I want to give that a go.

What colours would you guys recommend using in the tea stained type waters of that area? Also if there is any other setups you could recommend that would increase my pickerel mission that would be great, I really don't have much experience fishing for them mid summer.

    Thanks

    Pete

  2. 10 bucks isn't bad but every buck at this point is crucial especially with a lost wallet (which includes money, credit card, debit card etc.) I honestly have to borrow the 10 bucks from someone. What are the consequences if a conservation officer comes and I don't have the card...can he look it up or do they have zero tolerance for it?

  3. Hey guys...I have just realized I lost my wallet some time in the last 24 hours and it contained my fishing license. I am going on a fishing trip in the next hour or so (booked and hours away). Is there any way that I can get a re print of my license or anything like that in this situation?

And I have already tried calling the MNR and the card services line but its a Monday-Friday line.

  4. Hey Guys...I don't own my own boat but rent once in a while when camping or at a lodge etc. I've borrowed a buddies fish finder in the past and it has helped out a lot however he doesn't have it anymore. I've looked online and don't really have the finances to spend 200+ on a new portable fish finder for 2-3 boat trips aa year. The normal new ones start at 100 which is fine but the potable ones are much more

I've tried kijiji and ebay with little luck. Is anyone here selling one or would be ok with borrowing/renting their's to me?

  5. Thanks for the reply there Kawartha Kev...By the west end I meant the town of Buckhorn and that area there. Bass would be our main target although I'm sure I'd start throwing some larger spinners and such for some muskies. The rocks scare me a little bit to be honest since I've never been out on this lake and would hate to get in an accident...having said that it is a pretty popular lake so hopefully it won't be too bad

  6. I don't have a fish finder myself, nor a boat, however when fishing a lake for the first time I like to have one to check depths etc and the rental doesn't usually have one. When I lived in St. Catharines I had a guy that would lend me his once in awhile but since moving to Barrie last year doesn't make sense to drive down there just for that. Does anyone have a portable fish finder they could lend me for a small fee?

    Thanks

    Peter

  7. Hey guys...I don't post much as I rarely have time to fish nowadays let alone share anything on here...however I do check back once in while to see all the great posts...We have a trailer on Upper Buckhorn and we've fished the lake pretty good and know many diff. spots to catch some decent fish...the Lower Buckhorn is a lake that I would really like to try fishing and is obviously very close to us. I've searched through the many posts about the lower buckhorn and surrounding lakes but didn't find too much information on particular spots. Can anyone give me any information on fishing the west end of the lake, we're only going out for a day so I don't see myself venturing to the east end unless it is strongly suggested.

Also, I have a map of the lower buckhorn which will do fine but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a bit more detailed of a depth map for the lake...this is the one I have but was hoping for one with a bit more detail

Lastly....what does this symbol mean on these maps + ....rocks maybe???

    Thanks for the help guys

  8. Cool thanks for the help guys. I was hoping that there were good spots closer to Barrie (I live 2 minute walk from Kempenfelt), may try it anyways, but I will definately give Bradford a go a few times.

  9. Hey guys...Just wondering if anyone could share an area near Barrie that is productive for carp. I've seen quite a few surface in the Barrie marina but the boats are in so the fishing is off limits there now. Anywhere along the north shore of Kempenfelt maybe?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

  10. Bucktail and Maribou jigs in different sizes and colours. Have caught just about every species on them. As well as an Mepps Aglia Long (size 4 or 5) and and aglia with the black 'hairs' on the treble in a size 2. That's all I need and I'm good to go. Oh and a 6'6 with 8 lb pline flouro clear on it :D

  11. Hey guys...well headed up to the trailer on Buckhorn with my dad and brother for our annual opener weekend. On the way from Barrie I stopped in at the dam in Gamebridge to see this walleye run everyone keeps talking about...didn't see anything for a bit as I walked the bank until a walleye almost jumped on top of me. Then I gazed out from the bridge and saw alot of fish, some were absolute monsters!! Here's a cool pic that I got...the fish decided to jump just as I was clicking the button, got lucky.

The park isn't officially opened till May but we always make the trip last weekend in April and make due with not having water in the trailer. We don't have a boat and it was a bit windy for the canoe so we just hung around the docks dipping microtubes and maribou jigs for crappie. My original game plan was to upsize the maribou in order to upsize the crappie...but after a few absolutely beautiful OOS fish I downgraded in size. Saturday was a beautiful day, but awful for the crappie. Only caught a few and only a couple of those worth keeping for the table, so they went back in. I couldn't understand what was wrong, year after year these docks produce plenty of crappie on opener, and this year not a sniff. Next day much the same, no matter what you threw there wasn't anything, which told me they weren't there for one reason or another (maybe too early yet?, no weed growth so maybe a week or two will be better). I had the polarized on and I didn't see ANY fish aside from a few bass here and there. Not even the sunfish were around and they're usually in there very thick. Dad and brother took off midday, I decided to stay another night since I didn't work Monday...and boy am I glad I did! After some thought and realizing they weren't in the marina or the bay, I decided casting out into the lake. We didn't do this earlier because the wind would be coming straight at us, and with 1/32 ounce jigs they don't go very far. Went back out close to dusk on Sunday and a couple hours worth caught me plenty of crappie, most in the 9-10 inch range. All in all it was a great weekend as always...hopefully make it up for the walleye opener and by then the crappie should be in (I hope!!).

  12. I've had alot of success with many that have been mentioned above, but one lure that I don't recall reading about and is my "go to" recently are 1/4 or 1/2 bucktail jigs. Sometimes I rip them real hard, other times lightly jig them while swimming them back. Either way they are fantastic for both Bass species. A lot of different colours have worked for me, all purple, white jighead with green bucktail, and all pearl have done a great job on them (and pike too). I've become very very confident in the lure so I'm sure that helps a lot.

  13. I bought them when there was alot of hype about them a couple years ago. Haven't fished them enough to give an honest review, but I didn't get much confidence with the limited time I used it. After reading some of these reports I'll give it a go on buckhorn this year a bit more.
