  1. Well we just moved to Geraldton and there doesn't seem to be too much in the way of restaurants but... Popeye's has a good breakfast(don't know about dinner), really good coffee as they grind a new batch of beans for every pot they make. Crown and Anchor Hotel has a restaurant and the breakfast was good(again don't know about dinner) Both places are popular in town and can be busy so I assume the other food is good. If you want good pizza then I suggest the Pizza House(I think it's called that) it's on main street(eat-in or take-out) White building with reddish pinky awning, on the right side of main street if heading toward Nakina. There is a chinese place to but haven't checked it out yet, it's called Queen's, anyway from what I can tell they are all on main street so not hard to find. The Silver Nugget Motel has a restaurant to but they only serve dinner, had pasta there and it was good, the place wasn't busy so we had the pool table to ourselves....course that was in Feb, when not much is going on.
  2. Didn't want to take away from the Red Lake area thread. The wife and I work on Lake of the Woods and we were wondering if anyone knew if the Little Traverese in particular was ice free yet. We know most of the lake is now free but we need to go through the Little Traverse to get to camp. We left from Peterborough this past Tuesday and we got held up in Thunder Bay Wed to this morning, waiting for the ice to be free. We are now in Fort Frances and would like to leave tomorrow(especialy since there are no hotel rooms for tomorrow night....figures). Anyway any info would be great. Just other info, As far as we could tell Rainy Lake looks ice free as do all but one lake between Thunder Bay and Fort Frances, travelling down Hwy 11. About half the lakes between Timmins and Thunder Bay still had lots of ice on them as of Wednesdy. Nipigon was still about half covered in ice again as of wednesday but looked like it should be free by now. Not a great help but just thought I would share. Thanks again.
  3. They are all over Lake of The Woods too and they're making one hell of a mess. Use to see a lot of Loons with babies but not so much maybe see one a season with young in our area of the lake. The filth birds like to hang with the pellicans(blending in isn't working for them), why they want to do another study on them is beyond me. They already know how they impact the fish and environment. We get groups on the 100's, 300's on the lake and will run into several groups in one day on a trip from the island to town or the marina, driving through the centre of them and still...no hits. They only seem to group in large numbers at certain times of the year but that doesnt' mean all those birds still aren't out there somewhere on the lake. Not a great pic but they can't hide, and what's the impact from pellicans, we have some but nothing like the cormorants.
  4. First, just want to say hi, and I finally took the leap and joined. For the last three years my wife and I have stayed at Spruce Island Camp. It's pretty much in the middle of the lake which we really like as it's the only lodge in the area. There are quite a few in the north and south end of the lake and just too much boat traffic for us, we really enjoy the seclusion of being in the middle of the lake. The fishing in the area of the camp is really good espcially for walleye and we have had good luck hooking into some nice pike and musky(haven't boated any musky as of yet but still fun to see them charging your lure). We have always found the cabins to be spotless and well taken care of. Compared to other places on the lake their prices are real good and the owners and staff are great, friendly and happy to do all they can to make your trip a memorable one. They have 24-7 electricity, phone, satelite tv and wirless internet if your addicted to your computer, all the comforts of home but yet you still feel like your away from it all. Anyway we really look forward to our trip every year and can't wait for next year. Their website is spruceislandcamp.com not sure if the website is up as I went to it the other day and I guess they might have been up dating it. If you want a brochure you just have to send them an email. Have a great trip wherever you decide to stay.
