  1. I'm gonna be heading to Timmins soon for a couple days (work) and I'll have my rod with me. I probably won't bring my Sportspal with me, though. I'm curious if anyone knows any good places to go off the shore there? I'm mostly looking for bass, walleye, pike, trout, whatever can be had from shore - not too picky. Not a catfish fan, though.

One thing I know: under the bridge might not be a great idea. My brother went not long ago, and he landed the following with 10lb test:

That last one weighed in at about 43lbs! Not too shabby.

    Anyhow, suggestions?

  3. Hey the members, any help would be great.

I dont do alot of posting but, I do read these forums each day. Alot of very good post. Thanks for them.

I am heading up to Port Loring and Arnstein in a couple of weeks for fishing. It is my friends families hunting cabin. There is 12 of us going and none of us have fished the area. Can anyone please give me some insight on the fishing up there in this area. We are not right on water, but we are less then 1 mile to it.

    What catching? (Weekend of 29th)

    What bait?

    Trolling?

    Drifting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

There is bass walleye pike and lakers, maybe a muskie to be had along the way. Bass is closed until late june so just the rest are open. Clear lake in Arnstein and wilson lake offer good oppertunities as well as french river.

    good luck

  4. I may have to give that a try. I appreciate the info.

I'm thinkin about brining my canoe up, with the electric troller. I only have sat evening, and sunday morning to fish, so I want to spend it wisely.

Is there a few spots to launch a canoe on porcupine lake?

yes there are. One in Porcupine on martin street and one in south porcupine right by the airport hotel and bar, bruce street if i remember. Nighthawk is a good bet, but it is a big shallow system so if there is bad weather and your in a canoe, your in trouble. Google those streets and you'll find launches at the end of them.

  5. Hi there: I was born and raised in timmins and they are kinda right about mattag. It Runs through the uptown portion of timmins on highway 101. You can fish there but i have never seen people catch alot of walleye there. If you want a good shore spot, fish anywhere you can find land on porcupine lake in porcupine (burb of timmins). Tons of big hungry walleye in there, but there is a slot. Night fishing is good as well as morning.

    good luck

    good fishin everyone

  8. Low water level here on Nipissing is giving me a good opportunity to do some shore clean-up. Mostly I'm walking in water no more than 2" deep --- finding lots of dead frogs and crayfish --- the seagulls and the crows are cleaning them up.

I came across a little creature that I thought at first was a minnow trapped in shallow water. Looking more closely I thought it was a salamander. Anyway, I picked it up and put it in a container until I was finished my chores. It was then I noticed that the critter had gills.

I spent some time looking it up, and turns out it's a 1 year old mud puppy. It's about 8 cm long, 4 legs, external gills and a tail like an eel for swimming.

My little grand-daughter loves insects and creatures, so this "baby dragon" is inhabiting a goldfish bowl for a few days until we release him back into the big cruel world to do whatever mud puppies do. :)

Hey jocko this is an aquatic salamander that never matures into the land form or newt. Not that common around northern ontario but seemingly nippising has a decent population, just like the odd chinook that comes out of there.

    happy froggin
