Hey guys, Thinking about making a trip in the next month or two up to the Sault Ste Marie area. Im looking into fishing mainly Atlantics, maybe Pinks if I wait long enough for the run. Would also love to get into resident fish. Does anyone have any info on the area? Ive looked around buy cant find much, I am looking to get into good runs of fish, or good streams with resident fish. Only considering the drive if the fishing will be significantly better than what I can get into down here. Also heard Lake Superior Provincial Park can be good, would be willing to fish this area also. Any info is greatly appreciated, PM if necessary. Thanks in advance Mike

Stayed there a couple summers ago, did decent on jumbo perch and bass just off the shore in a canoe. Im sure if you can find some weedier areas you can find some pike. Fish were numerous but not gigantic. Good luck! Nice park but has a lot of weekenders and day visiters, make sure you have a method of getting off the beach and into the water

I agree with the fact that they should have another category for these fish, they are not genetically the same and therefore should not be grouped into a category with natural fish. This is almost like a high fence hunt. The farmer "grows" the game, raising it under perfect conditions until it is big enough, and then someone pays thousands to shoot it. Should not be counted IMHO. But, due to the fact that you still have to catch the fish, it should have a category, just not the same one. By limited access, do you mean it is hard to get to (ie. a long hike), or only certain people can access ($$, landowners, paying customers)? If you mean the latter, then this should not be counted, as only those with the money or means to fish these waters have a chance at catching these fish. If you mean a lake that is a 100km hike, but is publically accessible, then this should definately be counted, as there is no reason why it shouldnt be.

Hey guys, Recently found out that one of my buddies booked a campsite at Bon Echo Provincial Park (ie. Lake Mazinaw, ie. fishing!) for the end of the month I've been here a few times before, and only caught some bass in the nearby smaller lakes. Mazinaw is very, very deep and there was a post either here or on another ontario forum about catching lakers in it. I have heard from many sources there are lakers, however, this is where my question comes in. Lakers are deep in the summer, and unfortunately, I do not have a boat. That means no downrigging or anything of the sort. However, being primarily a trout/salmon fisherman (rivers) I would love to hook into some lakers. Is there any way this is possible from a canoe? Two methods ive heard brought up are vertical jigging and a three-way swivel system with a large weight, trolling slowly on a canoe. Are either of the methods effective, or is it possible to use something else better like leadcore or a dispy diver? By the way, I have no idea how to fish any of the aforementioned setups, just heard of them. Also, the lake is huge, so how would I locate the depth and areas where the lakers may be? I have access to a map with depths if that helps, although im sure many of you will tell me a fishfinder is the way to go ($$$ ) Anyway, thanks for reading, and please post any advice you may have, as it is greatly appreciated. Hey all, I'm looking for a portable fish finder with a split screen. One half of the screen should have a hydrographic map of the area (showing all surrounding lake depths) and the other half should have a fish finder. The fish finder must be portable... Anyone seen such a madel? thx

hey guys, been fishing for a while now, but this is my 3rd year fishing rivers for steel. anyway, had a horrible opener with all the crowds and whatnot, and after driving the entire weekend with my dad, all the spots where you can possibly access the river are either posted or swarming with people. Im only 17 so my dad wont let me drive all over the place, but these were GB tribs and im sure that the lake o tribs are twice as bad. i was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where to fish, through a PM of course, or would consider meeting up one day to show me the ropes (and possibly my dad too, lol). it seems like no matter how many spots we drive to, we never catch fish, even if people around us are hooking into them. thanks in advance, hopefully someone is willing to point me in the right direction. hey guys, really itching to fish on the opener in some stretches of river that arent open year round...however i looked at the forecast and rain tommorow! Do you guys think that 1-3 mm will make the rivers too high and muddy to fish, or not? How much rain does it take to make the rivers too muddy? Thanks, Mike

depends on what your fishing for....assuming its steelhead i would reccomend a rod no shorter than say 8 and a half feet (preferably 10 feet or more) and a 6 pound leader maybe, the slip float and worms sound ok though. on a 7 foot ultralight the steelhead will take you for quite the run and then snap your line, no control with this size....if its all you got why not though

Hey guys, Me and my dad want to do a trip this spring. Nowhere far...unless its affordable and good fishing. Id really like to get into some brookie fishing in Ontario, and it would be awesome if we could drive there. Brookies and lakers would be my main target, and I wouldn't mind some pike/walleye also, but I know this is hard to get in one area. I was thinking of a few places ive found where you drive to sudbury and float plane over to a private lake with lakers/pike and brookies in the rivers. They are also quite affordable, i just dont know if the fishing is all its chalked up to be (spelling?) Does anyone know of any good parks to camp at.....or lodges/cabins with good fishing? was going to head down to the lake o tribs tommorow .....is it worth the trip? we got some rain up here in caledon and i heard they got alot in barrie....but dont know about east of toronto? As long as there are fish im happy please respond as im going in the morning lol peace mike

wondering if you guys think hitting the notty in the provincial park is worth it tommorow, because Im gonna be at a cottage 5 mins from there and dont wanna be bored all day lol. Ive heard salmon were caught all the way up to angus, but I went there and the water looks dead. Is that how the notty always looks in that area? Hoping for a response from some tonight, hoping to hook into some fish tommorow. Hey guys, heading up to Bon Echo Provincial Park mid-august for a week, heard some good things about the fishing there. Anyone know what its like or where to fish in the lake? I believe its called Lake Mazinaw... I am hoping to catch some lakers but theyll be down really deep I guess. Is there any way to fish lakers without downrigging? How could I get a spoon down to like 40-50 feet by just casting? Interested in the other species too, specially the walleye and bass and pike. If anyone has any info please post back or PM me. hey guys, Just got back from Sibbald Point with the family, had a great time fishing Lake Simcoe! We are looking into going again in the last week of August, and I was wondering if any of you knew campgrounds with river systems that the salmon/steelhead run goes through. I am hoping to catch just the beginning of the run in the last week of August, even if I dont chances are there will be a few fish that come up early. yes it is very busy on weekends, would not go then. But monday and tuesday it is very quiet, and once you are out on the lake there is barely any boats around. I think it is something like $16 to park all day and launch a boat, but I could be wrong. Best thing to do is pay the 25 bucks or so and camp for the night, this gives you access to the parking lot and boat launch for 2 days for free.

Fished Lake Simcoe from Sunday the 22nd to Tuesday the 24th, camping at Sibbald Point. Took out the canoe onto the lake and fished for maybe 5 hours total the whole trip. Boated a couple decent largemouth, a nice smallie with beautiful colouration, and tons of perch and rock bass. My dad hooked a nice 13" perch that wouldve gone close to 2 pounds, never seen that before. All in all a decent amount of fish for the short amount of fishing I did. hey guys, just wanted to know how you guys fish for salmon or steelhead once they move up the rivers? I would usually cast spoons and get 1 or 2 on a good day, but many people catch on float fishing or other techniques that I dont understand even after searching google lol. How do you fish salmon or steelhead and rivers and how exactly is it done (equipment, how is it rigged, how is it fished, etc.)? I am preparing for the fall runs and would like to try out some new methods. Thanks in advance, Mike

any access to sturgeon lake for shore fishing in the southern region of the lake? I am going to Lindsay thursday and would like to fish, but dont have a boat to bring with me. hey guys, heading up to the kawartha lakes region thursday, wondering where i can get some half decent shore fishing in with my buddy on one of the lakes. doesnt matter what kind of fish as long as they are not tiny lol....preferably pike or lakers, but bass would be fine too. thanks for any help mike

hey guys, Im planning on going camping with my family in the next couple weeks, but I want to find a spot not too far that has good fishing but is also good for little kids (4-12 years old). I was thinking somewhere on Cook's Bay or Lake Simcoe, but I dont know how the fishing is there. Any other reccomendations? I am looking for a place good for kids within 2 hours of me (I am located an hour directly north of Toronto), with good pike or bass (or walleye and muskie too!) fishing. Please let me know your thoughts. hey guys, hitting a small stream close by my place tommorow morning for resident brookies/browns and was wondering your reccomendations on bait/lures? I tried to dig worms for about an hour with no luck, the ground is way too dry. Any other bait suggestions for trout that arent too hard to get? some people have told me to use corn or marhmellows but i have never had luck with these. I have a bunch of small panther martins and other size 1 or 0 spinners, but the stream is probably too shallow for these. should i try them anyway? also any other lures you use with success on small stream trout would be great! Hey guys, New to the forums and just wanted to say hi! Also was wondering if anyone here fishes trout in streams/rivers this time of year? River fishing is my favorite way to fish, but I am not having much luck this year lol....the trout are hard to find in summer. Plus i cant drive yet so I cant go anywhere too far lol.
