  1. They have ruined my dad’s house and land! They are all around his place.. All I hear in the bush hunting now is WHOOSH, WHOOSH... Every 3-5 seconds. My head hurts everytime I go hunting there. Now a 230Kv is being run 60' behind his house, no matter how much he has fought them!!! There seems to be no rules for these yahoos that just want to destroy the rural communities.

  2. If you choose a compound bow, there is a lot you need to do before you can just get one and go hunting!

You would be best to (if you choose compound) not to hunt big game this year, too much practice is needed to make a clean kill.

Enter some 3-d shoots and get used to getting your yardage down. Practice is the key and a good mentor if you can find one.

Please don't rush into it, it all takes time, practice and knowledge.

  3. On hunting trips, there has been SO many times that I have come out of the bush with only one sock on or tree bark in my crack!! But never had to do it on the ice....Yet

The stories I have to tell my children!! LOL

  4. Lots os deer around. I have been out only twice and I have seen 9 so far, and one I could have hit with a stick also.... But it needed to be a bit bigger and my stick has a broadhead on it. I stand hunt and never have a problem being on deer, just need to find out where they are and their routes. I always fill the freezer :D

  5. Good for you on making that decision. That must have been a exhausting time for you and I am sure your kids missed you a lot.

I understand where you are coming from, somewhat! My commute to work is four hours a day plus the hours I have to work, I too work in the mining industry, but I am on the engineering side I design the process plants and storage facilities ect… I wish I could spend more time with my 3 kids, but I don’t have many options where I am located at this point in time. Anyways, good luck with your new job and enjoy having more time with your kids.

  6. You have no idea...don't make me dig up my "review" from a few years ago.

Your not the only one with a crappy review about this place, I made one a few years ago too and that place was terrible!!!

Good luck, you will need it! Also you will not be fishing from the hut so be well prepared for that and bring a portable if you have one, he will rent out huts to you in a better fishing spot.

That's all I am going to say with this yahoo's operation.

  7. I am heading up the weekend of Feb 10th-12th...massive panzerotti's you say, WHERE???? I must have one!

I just talked to Bill Eden at Bernard Outfitters (SE corner of Highway 124 (old 11) and Paget) and he said people are driving ATVs and sleds on the ice, but there are still some unsafe areas; and like everywhere else in Southern Ontario the ice seems to be just being maintained instead of building up.

    Good luck!

I can't remember the name but it is that little round restaurant in with the shell gas station and next to the beer store.

  8. Good report.

How did they taste? Any worms in the meat?

Not one worm in them, and they tasted great.

It was a big walleye, but it gave me a good fight and I got to see it, it would have gone back anyways.

  9. I headed up there with my boys last Friday, what a crappy drive! Got there at about 3pm unloaded and got all the gear ready and headed out to our hut. Wasn`t long and I caught a big rock bass, back into the drink it goes. About 5pm I get a good hit and hook into a nice eye, get it up to the hole and just as the head goes to come up the hole he goes horizontal and gets caught under the ice and watched the eye swim back down :( . My eldest boy hooked into a nice eye and lost it also, then it went quiet so we headed back for some eats.

The next day up ealry and headed out to our hut, I ended up catching 5 Cisco no walleyes were seen this day but we had fish for a fry.

Sunday we all got Cisco again, 7 were caught this time and no walleyes were seen again. We marked lots but nothing was committing to our lures or minnows.

Okimot Lodge is fantastic, the owner Tom was great and the accommodations where fantastic.

Overall it was a great weekend with my boys and some good laughs.

Here is a pic with some of the Cisco I caught.

    Cheers

    Jay
