  2. Since I now have no boat I purchased a Pelican Quest 100 Kayak from Costco - seemed like a good deal with roof tie downs, paddle and skirt - Have not put in water yet - any commencts on these - as if it feels good we will buy a second one maybe slightly larger so two of us can paddle together one fishing , one just paddling etc - considering a 12 ft for the second one - anyone out there have this model of Kayak? appreciate any insight -suggestions - robin
  3. one more pic missing from chandos 2011.jpg]
  4. Lost these photos in the computer until now - even though I understand Chandos has no fish -there are a few and the water is really nice and clear pics Lots of little fish under water 1 little fish on big lure 1 ok pike (caught a couple ) 1 big bass went under dock - released lure and had to snorkle under dock to free the lure - it jumped so there were witnesses Robinwood
  5. thanks for the input- I looked at marine chart and there are a zillion little X's on it I guess the bad news is rocks - the good news is structure! May have to bring the net on this trip! Robin
  6. we have been renting a cottage on an inland lake for 19 years -which is now up for sale - mainly a bass lake mostly up to 2-3 lbs and could never get lost! in any event looked for a new one -we have booked one in the Skerryvore Georgian bay area moonlight bay for middle of August- I have just purchased a small handheld garmin garminmap 76cx on sale at west marine - and now looking for maps of the new area to avoid getting lost, hitting islands etc - there seems to be the blue map of eastern canada and the ontario inland lakes - not sure which one to buy - is the Georgian bay coverage identical on these - would appreciate any ones experience - I think there may be bigger fish out there !- have 15 hp 16ft tin boat -for exploring and fishing . appreciate any comments and thank those who assisted in the past with trailer bearings, suggestions etc Robinwood "would like to go fishing more"
  7. this was about the largest size we caught - in kashag to continue the previous post
  8. well, fish were shallow - not large but more than we have ever caught on Thanksgiving weekend in 10 years we caught a fair number like the photos below all LM under a 1lb - hit orange rapalas almost as soon as it hit the surface in 6-8 feet of water over weeds -one family in a nearvy boat thought he had a large Northern on and was very excited when he saw how large it was before it went under his boat and broke off- I quite suspect it was a Musky- since I understand there are few if any Pike in Kasagawiganmog (is that correct) - I told hime it was probably a Musky and he was very exited - I used our standards of "if you see it ,it counts" - since we use barbless hooks - we see lots but do not always get them out of the water - but what a beautiful 3 days for a thanksgiving weekend!
  9. will be there this weekend again, last year was real warm caugt 1 nice largemounth and few small ones on rapala floater over weeds- expect total fishing time to be 2-3 hours with elctric motor - so any thoughts - from anyone - I saw posted somewhere the lakes had turned!! should I fish slow and deep? Surface??? Gulp minnows on the bottom? think I can get a musky on a spinner bair?? appreciate any insights and promise to report back on anything over 12" long
  10. well, I called bps today- no point going to get one if there are none, and yes there are none, person on the phone said they were re-called !! by the manufacturer - so I guess someone is in some (Van) Dam trouble! after running a half page ad in the (van) Dam flyer - still looked like a good deal if the (van) Dam things were available!
  11. The reel thats on special in the BPS flyer - at $79.95 - I expect this has been asked before , is this a good reel deal! here is the link I think http://brampton.flyerland.ca/view_flyer.ph...amp;mode=single thought of retiring my 1963 Pfleuger thanks
  12. been going there every summer for 20 years, sm,lm ,rb and small perch there are supposed to be splake but we,ve never seen any cottahe owners are not happy about some people driving in out of season and pulling out lots of bass - may get a visit from authorities otherwise a generally peaceful lake - pretty good canoeing can't reall get lost!
  13. Huh, 0 fish is slow for me -1 is exciting - please leave a few or one for me ; great pictures !
  14. re-mortaging is a great time to get a (or a new) boat or toys , if you hve equity , use some! seeing lots of older relatives - with tonnes of equity -but physically incapable of doing anything fun with it. within reason play now! before you cannot. just some thoughts
  15. Not sure of the wisdom of these dives, but the water is pretty clear, reminds of when I was like 20 in the 70's and started diving -would dive most anywhere any time-dove the buffalo coin pile one year and off brockville and prescott numerous times - lots of carp in the shadows- but I hear the water is a lot clearer now due to zebra mussles
  16. Thanks ,Thought the bugs might be an issue- will add the mesh had to his bon voyage package!
  17. My son may have a summer job in Ft Smith NWT - I want to equip him with a rod reel and small tackle pack before he goes. This area is way UP THERE, might I assume this is the kind of area where you cast anything into a river or lake and likely will get a hit ? Bug spray too I guess! Anybody have any experience up there - not fly in - just casual local fishing !? appreciate any suggestions - ps. received new cabelas fishing catalog - great reading for the Throne room!!
  18. lures cathching fishermen(women) So in BPS on Sunday - in the arbogast bin- thought I might buy a new shiny Hula Popper, I have 5 - they look real great from the top - but the bottom is either all yellow or all white alreday have 4 like that!- plus 1 all black fish only see the bottom (don't they?) so probably plain unpainted white plastic would be just as effective - I passed !
  19. pulled out from boat launch and generally headed toward the island - lots of weed beds everywhere, I noticed a lot of boats and people hanging around the dam - but it looked crowded, we did seea lot of tiny perch following lures etc - and acouple of people pulled out what must have been 1-2 lb LM a little further out from the island we circled around and found the area with the stumps etc - and basically tried some sureface , lures and senko type worms etc in among the weeds - people were leaving as we arrived - some had caught 4-5 fish (claimed) - but we did start late- despite a bit of rain - the day was nice and the boss will try again!! oh by the way, how did you do in Simcoe?
  20. did Eugenia yesterday afternoon, left late for various reasons , not to mention obvious storms , new wheel bearings seemed fine!! only 1 small perch to report which self extracted itself before a photo, saw a few others haul in some bass and perch- we were fishing mid day - it seems from the number of trailers in the parking lot , there were a lot of people out in the morning- nice lake - but what kind of weeds are those? we head to bancroft area in August every year which has weeds to the surface in some places as well, but they are no where near as strong as the ones in Eugenia- really slow down the motor and suck down lures!
  21. Finally removed all the pieces from the axel and the hub - not as easy as hoped, an old friend came by and offered to repack new bearing for a couple of cool ones- so the wheel is back on and seemd to be turning nicely- I may be able to get out this weekend and would appreciate any oipinions , suggestions on any of the following- 1- 2 hours from Mississauga- my sweetie (the boss) will only come if she cathes something!! 1- bellwood lake - been before never caught anything? 2- Eugenia - sounds neat - never been though 3-Queenston lower Niagra 4-hamilton harbour- been before 3 times caught 2 fish once! 5-scugog !! worried about dead carp- but looks like my kind of (weedy) water the boat is a a fairly narrow 16ft cresliner (1972) with 15 hp again, thanks for all the previous assistance with the bearing issue -
  22. some years ago before I gave up campiing and started cottaging we spent some weekends up at Cyprus lake park near Tobermory- beautiful park on the escarpment - great hiking and views- there are some camp sites that back directly on to Cyprus Lake - we caugh a number of pickeral from out Canoe in Cyprus- you can also access Georgian Bay on foot - but I did not see anyone shore fishing .
  23. well, thinking I was starting to spend more than an entire new axle ( an hesiting to burn down my garage trying to cut this thing off) I passed princess Auto today -thanks for the suggestion Rayfish, -a very manly but messy store -but full of many very interesting and strange devices- checked complete axles but they all had 5 studs mine wheels have 4 - rumaged around and found a 3 legged more robust puller- certainly if i could move the ring one way I should be able to move it back - it worked I managed to remove the offending ring 10 minutes ago - tested the threads with the lock bolt that came off the hub originally - seems ok, - May get the boat in the water this year after all!- I now have all these parts and the hub- I was thinking that rather than screw up repacking them myself - I could get a Hub complete with all these little pieces somewhere- any thoughts on the best place to take all these pieces for a knowledgeable replacement- C Tire and even princess today did not seem to have anyone who really knew things - Thanks again folks
  24. well, I have been squeezing in an hour here and there working on the thing - thanks again for all the responses found a "acme universal inner ring pounding device" actually some kind of pipe in the plumbing dept at Canadian tire that fit over the end of the axel and allowed me to hammer it against the bearing ring - I moved it about 1 1/2 inches inward away from the threads- tried to move it forward again tapping with the hammer - but no go!- bought a small puller- Product #25-3605-6 canadain tire again!- no movement - bought small propane torch product id Product #58-7542-2 last night and tried to heat it up - no movement! - might I assume that with a more robust puller- I should be able to pull it off? I cannot really hammer from behind as the traler is in the way and do not want to damge the shaft!- thanks
