  1. I fish alone alot and have missed too many great fish pictures because of it, so I had a custom made mount to hold my new Stylus Tough 6000.

I had a Ram Mount from an old hand held GPS, so I had my Dads neighbour(a retired machinist) make this up for me.

First I had a permanent base made for the Ram mount with a threaded hole in the centre.

Next I had post made that threads on to the base on the other end is threaded too fit the camera

Here is the whole thing with the camera on it

Now I will be able too sit in the same spot on my back casting deck and have everything centred up in the frame. I've been playing with zoom settings so I'll know when I'm Bassin' or Musky fishing how far to zoom in to get the best shot with the whole fish in.

I'll post some pics when I'm out next time

  2. I have been fishing around the harbour for the last month and I have not been stopped by any of the patrol boats. On any day you will see Coast gaurd,Border patrol, and Sherrif boats. Plus you will also see Sherrif,Coast Gaurd, and Border helicopters and miltary planes.

I asked a couple of Border agents that I happen too run into at the Gander Mnt, store about the passport issue and they told me it wasn't mandatory too have it with you. They did advise to bring it if you happen too break down and have to land on US soil your in for a huge huge hassle.

As for safety equipment as long as you launch on the Canadian side of the lake/river your Canadian safety equip. is fine, if you launch from the US side then you need all the NY state safety equip.

Right now is trophy season you are allowed to keep 1 fish over 20" and live bait is legal.

When are you planning on going?

Hope this helps clear up your questions.

Here's a little teaser of what you could get into

  3. Nice work Lew that should do the job. Here's my prop wash rod holder

I also made this at the same time, a net handle holder for when I'm Musky fishing by myself. Simply slide the handle in and rest the hoop of the net on the gunnel.

  4. I picked one up last month and have been using it on my Mojo tube rod no problems yet.I have 10lb power pro on it and I got my first 6lb smallmouth with this reel. Nice smooth drag.Casts great. Nice rubber pads on the spool for the braided line. I've also got 2 of the Supreme's and there a great reel too(2 years of use)not a problem. How much are they going on sale for?

  5. Cudz I fished the lower last Thursday, the visibility was great but after the rain and melting snow I'm sure that it well be brown. Both of the power plants upstream from Queenston will be spewing out muddy water for maybe a week. I would think that the water upstream for the power plants might still be fishable(Devil's Hole). I don't know how big your boat is, but I would not suggest going up too the Hole your first time on the lower without someone has run up before those waters can be very, very dangerous. I would postpone your trip until the water clears. The best baits lately have been roe bags, streams, and yarn. I had a couple of hits on a couple of the Canadain drfts but all the fish I landed came from the Artpark drift on the U.S. side.

    Good Luck Rob

  6. I've caught 2 rods and reels bottom bouncing the Lower Niagara for trout. Both were baitcasters with Diawa's reels on them(my fav. brand).I've also pulled in a cell phone. Once while trolling for ski's on lower Buckhorn I hooked into someones cut anchor line. I've been lucky though with 20 years fishing the Lower Niagara I have not pulled in or seen a floater.

There is a good sized bay on the north side of the lake with a very nice weed egde.Troll the open water area between the point off the north shore and the island with the cottage. Check your PM's

  8. Has anyone tried the wax based scents ? I was thinking of giving them a try. I've beening catching alot of smallies on jerkbaits on Erie and the Upper Niagara but still getting lots of follows that will not commit. I was hoping that by adding the scent might get a few more in the boat. I was interested in the wax based scent as I would think it would not wash off after one or two casts.

    I found this one http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage-BWPS.html

Anyone ever try this one or if you've tried any other brand I would like too here any comments good or bad.

    Thanks Rob

  9. TC try going to the lanch ramp at Nichols marine just south of coal dock right across the road from Denis's tackle store. I see people fishing that slack water area every time I'm launching my boat. I don't know how or what they're fishing but it could be worthwhile just going and watching and talking to the locals.

  10. I had the same thing this week with Cabelas tried too order some vinyl paint for jigs. I was told they can not ship the paint to Canada and was redirected to their Canadain outlet. Then I find out they don't carry the paint. So I ended up driving over the border to Gander Mnt. and getting what I needed.
