Welcome back!! I hear you with not wanting to come back. My wife and kids spent the whole summer up at our trailer in Honey Harbour. My boat is still in the water and if you want to hit HH, give me a ring.

Save up another 100 bucks and you'll have many more options available to you, around 200bucks for a baitcaster, you can't go wrong with any at that price point. Whether it's shimano, abu, quantum, etc... You do get what you pay for when it comes to reels, spend a bit less on the rod and more on the reel, you won't regret it.
-
Bottom line, how much do you want to spend???
I used to have a Winchester 1300 pump with the long barrel and a rifled barrel and I loved shooting it, the slide would come back a bit after each shot enabling a quicker pump for the second shot if necessary. I get another in a heartbeat if I found one in good shape. I have an 870 in 20 guage that is a really nice piece. As for the Benelli, it's all about cost, how much will the shotgun cost you along with a rifled barrel?? An 870 for $400 odd is a great deal and not too big a pill to swallow especially that you are new to hunting. If you don't enjoy it, you'll be stuck with an expensive wall decoration. You could spend the difference on good boots, a coat, gear, etc....

Hopefully it'll be a lesson for these boneheads. As for the Marina, they will have to re-think their security arrangements because 1 or 2 boats is bad enough but 52!!!!! Shameful, any damages should be picked up by the marina in good faith otherwise there will be 52 customers looking elsewhere for slips/storage.

I'm hoping to get my boat back in the water on Saturday and do some fishing in GBay. Sunday is trailer close up time so my days are numbered.

Spend as much as you can afford. Cheap suits are just that, they will last 1 or 2 outings then fall apart. Spend the extra dough and you will get much more enjoyment out of it.
-
Hey, not so fast!! Fall is my fave time of the year. We're cooling down but Sunday is supposed to be a balmy 18 so I guess possibly a last cruise around the 30k islands in G Bay.

Yeah, I hate fishing with my wife as well since she usually kicks my arse all over the place too..........mind you, I spend all my time unhooking her fish for her so I do get to fish less but that's no excuse.
Nice report and welcome back from the Pearl of the Med.

Someone should send our PM an instruction booklet, let's see..........Page 1: Insert foot here (huge mouth)..............

I see you're using my favourite jig, the chartreuse/orange northern ontario special. You can't get that colour combo down here and I know it's deadly on the northern lakes. NICE shore action!!

Using the RV stove, water heater, toilet etc... is a great idea. They are all efficient, only question, what do you do with the waste water???
As for deep frying the bird, you are looking at about 45 minutes for a 15lb bird, in and around 3 minutes/lb at 375deg oil. Good luck, deep fried turkey is great.

My sincerest condolences. Jeez, we've had a lot of family pass away over the past few months around here. Take care.

Wayne, enjoy your family bud. You never know what is around the corner so live for today, put a couple of bucks aside for tomorrow but don't wait too long to do the things you dreamed about your entire life.

Nice!!! The little back lakes have the potential to be walleye factories that's for sure!!

Unfortunately for me, the markers for the shoal were removed just after Labour Day weekend. I had no warning, all of a sudden the water went very shallow and before I could pop it into neutral, I hit a rock and mangled my prop.
-
I actually used the ramp in Bobcaygeon between Gordon Yacht Club and Riverside Lodge, only problem was that the shoal just past the bridge was not marked and I bounced off of a rock and trashed my prop. I spent the summer boating in Georgian Bay with it's gazillions of rocks and I end up hitting one in the Kawartha's. Anyways, it's always smart to keep a spare prop on the boat along with the necessary tools, otherwise, I would have ended up heading back home.
The fishing was so so, we caught a few smallies and tons of slab rock bass, and sunfish. No walleye and more importantly for myself, no muskie.
-
I've got the boat at home this weekend from G-Bay and I was wondering if there are any concrete ramps that are public or marina owned in the Kawartha's, especially Pigeon or Buckhorn lakes. My van is front wheel drive and I'll have a heck of a time trying to pull the boat out on a gravel ramp. Thanks in advance guys.

That'll leave a mark!!! I know about that way of doing it but I've never seen it done before. I have personally seen the 'wall of shame' in Kenora General Hospital, there are some nice lures on there missing hooks. I guess that's another reason to pinch down your barbs.

It's too bad you have to close your shop but things happen for a reason, this may be the beginning of the most exciting and fun chapter of your life. Best of luck in your new endeavour!!!!

I second the worm and Lindy rig, or a leech on a Lindy. 15+ feet of water should be your target.

I would avoid 11 thru North Bay. Take the 400 up to 17 and stay on it the whole way from Sudbury to the Soo, up the Eastern shore of Superior (one of the most beautiful places in the world btw), around Marathon to Tunder Bay and up the rest of the way. No secondary roads to get lost on esp. if you are not familiar with the area. Make sure you follow the signs going thru the Soo, and you'll be fine. There's lots of places to stop along the way and it really is a beautiful drive. I'm going to miss it, my in-laws just sold the cottage on LOTW and have completed their move down to the Niagara Bench. Lots of great memories and tons of great fishing, the last night up there last year, the wife and I caught 30 walleye in less than an hour and a half on a gorgeous night, I guess the lake was saying goodbye to us.

Wayne,
My sincerest condolences on the loss of your mother. It has been a rough year for you but hang in there. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Take care of yourself and your family.

West Marine in Midland has the charts, both the set of 5 that covers Port Severn to Parry Sound (I recommend that oneand I ahve both) for $35 I think and the big 1 pager (not as detailed) for $20odd. Don't mess around in GBay, there are so many shoals and rocks that it is really easy to damage both yourself and your boat. DO NOT GO OUT ON THE WATER WITHOUT A CHART!!!!!

350 sounds pretty good, esp. in the Muskoka region. You'll have tons of fun with the bass and pike up there. Good luck.
Good Morning Lew
