  1. A couple of good sized panels with a good battery setup and you should be fine, you won't have enough power to run electrical heating but you will have enough for lighting, basic appliances (toaster or coffee maker), a water pump and battery power for your propane fridge. It can be done, just depends on how much you are willing to pay up front and also factor in maintenence costs as well (battery replacement and the like). I've got a client who did that with his cabin up near Parry Sound, he's off the grid and he lives there year round now. He chops lots of firewood in the spring to feed the woodstove to keep the place toasty warm (actually hot).

  2. Double 10s and larger are a hard pulling bait requiring a low gear ratio of 4-4.5:1. A big reel like the 7000i makes up for that with a really big spool so it gets them back to the boat pretty quick. The 6500 or the Curado 300 are great for smaller baits but for the big stuff, I like my 7000, like Lew said, it's not the smoothest but it gets the job done efficiently.

  3. A couple of things that everyone has seemed to ignore in this thread. Yes, a lighter line should get you further casts. Another thing to consider is making sure your reel and it's bearings are lubed nicely. I love Quantum HotSauce, it smoothed up my Abu 6500C4 musky reel and made it feel like something completely different. Another thing is possibly upgrading the bearings in your reels or even upgrading your reels. You didn't mention what kind you have. A $50 Canadian Tire Baitcaster is never ever going to cast anything like a Curado or more expensive.

  4. Did he buy it certified?? If so, drop it off at the shop that did the cert and have them fix it on their dime. Otherwise, let them know you will be notifying the MTO of the problems with the brakes.

Most likely, the problems are with brakes that are sticking, could be bad wheel cylinders, out of adjustment brake shoes, bad calipers, etc... Have it looked at pronto, it's not safe the way it is right now.

  5. Well

    I told him my decision...

He's perfectly fine with it... And he apologized for stiffing me... He even offered me to keep more then the 50 I want out of this...

So I guess I did the right think cause we are starting to make plans to go fishing again...

You are setting yourself up for more headache and heartache. The guy doesn't have the cash to pony up but is out talking about flowers that he bought for his girlfriend and going out and getting gassed up. Do you really need a guy like this around?? Seriously?? I know you are trying to get a guiding service going but it's a tough gig to make any real money. I'm not going to preach to you about how you should live your life or make your living but BE REALISTIC AND BE TRUE TO YOURSELF. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you want to do.

  6. They've got too much power and control over our lives. The worst thing the feds did was take down the '3 Pillars' of financial services in the 90's. Banking, Brokerage and Insurance were all kept separate from each other and for good reason. Now banking and brokerage are done in branches and the insurance is next door. Thankfully, Chretien and Martin didn't let them merge, if that happened, it would pretty much be a monopoly here and there would be too much power in one single company. We need to keep tight gov't control over the banks lest we have a situation like the US where they control pretty much everything.

So, good for you with going to ING.

  7. I find that if I layer my defences, I don't have too much of a problem, spray myself down with a bit of Muskol and fire up the Thermacell and I don't get 'bugged' too much. If it's a bit breezy, it's not too effective but when it's windy, the bugs aren't out anyways. So, here's for some wind and some walleye chop!!

  8. Cars need to be run up to full operating temp and stay there for a while to prevent this sort of thing. Regular maintenance ie. oil changes should be done at the recommended intervals from the manufacturer, not the dealer who sometimes cuts them down to get you in there more often spending money unnecessarily. Also, with the new engines out there, you really have to pay attention to the correct type, quality and grade of oil. Jeez, before, you'd go to Cdn Tire, pick up a few liters of 10w30, a filter and you were good to go, now you have to make sure that it meets Ford spec564945846944 or Honda spec366454213654 etc..... These new engines can get sludge buildup really quick now if the maintenance schedule isn't followed.

  9. If your currrent prop is working for you, get another one that is the same. If you want one that planes better, go down one size in pitch keeping in mind that your rpms at full throttle will increase by a couple of hundred, if you are looking for more top speed, go up one size in pitch, you will drop a couple of hundred rpm BUT it will take longer to get on plane with a full boat. Prop selection isn't an exact science and really is about trial and error to find what you like and what works for you. That's why I said to stick with what you have if it works for you. Collecting props gets expensive. Make sure you have a spare prop nut, locking ring and cotter pin. You won't have a problem hitting rocks if you pay attention to your charts and your fishfinder.

  10. Oh yeah, the sauce and crust are the two most important things on the pizza because everything is added to them. For delivery, you can't beat Mamma's Pizza and Pizza Nova, they serve the highest quality for all of the franchises out there. They both have great sauce and great crusts.

  11. Whenever we make pizza at home, my super special secret ingredient in the sauce is a couple of anchovy fillets cut up and mashed into it, it gives the sauce a 'I don't know what that is but it tastes good' flavour. Then, homemade Italian sausage, hot Calabrese salami, red peppers, mushrooms and some onions. Super Deeee-lish!!

  12. 7ft MH action rod, Curado 200 or 300 spooled with 50lb braid of your choice and 80lb flurocarbon leader. For live bait, 7ft MH, 3000 Stradic spooled with 30lb braid and 80lb fluro leader with a 5-0 hook and a nice 3x strong treble set up quick strike rig style.

  13. OK I understand.....have you considered storing it on the trailer at a marina/launch....we have several places around here that do that....you don't have to trailer it but only hook on and launch it right there....it's MUCH cheaper then a dock and more secure on windy stormy days/nights...

    Bob

I was going to suggest this, seeing if a marina will store your boat for the season and let you use the ramp for a fixed fee for the season. I know up in Honey Harbour there are a couple of marinas that do this and charge $250-300 for the season. As for having power at the dock, it will end up costing you more and it usually limited to marinas as trailer parks don't want to spend the big money involved in running electricity to a dock and having outlets at each slip. It's one of those it would be nice kinda things but not a necessity. I know, I have to pull my TM batteries out of the boat and bring them up to my trailer to charge them and it's a pain.
