  1. I'll clarify just this one time. Clicking on 'fish on toronto' gives you nothing to read but a link to your site. Your site!

Thanks for clarifying. MikeH's site links to mine but it is indeed not me. On my homepage I link to OFC, OFF, and a myriad of other sites. It doesn't mean that they're my sites.

I found MikeH's articles a few months back and found them to be quite insightful. That's why I replied to this thread here today with a link to his site. This is all I wanted to do, to help somebody looking for more info about fishing Toronto by sharing what I've found.

  2. I think it's time for you to retract. We don't mind people advertising their site here at times but this osf, fot, off stuff will have to stop. It's getting a little spammy in here, and quite frankly, more than a little annoying. If you want your own site, go knock yourself out just don't pretend to be someone else.

    Hi Roy,

I'm being very serious. Fish on Toronto is not me, it's MikeH. He is a real guy and a different guy operating an independent site. Not sure what you mean by spammy, could you clarify?

    Why did you mention OFF?

  3. I saw this somewhere one time and really liked it. Hopefully I remember it right.

"Sometimes the excitement of a good deal is quickly lost to the disapointment of poor quality."

hahaha hopefully they're the same as the expensive ones =P. How're the fish going to tell the difference. It's shaped like a critter and it jitters. unless they smell of human or gasoline, LOL

  4. What made you think it's HIS website?

I think it's because a common unethical promotional tactic is pretending to post something of yours as an independent 3rd party. But nope, it's not my website. Read up on urban light fishing. He also outlines some locations around the islands.

  5. Very interesting thread, I'd like clarification too. Just sent the question/concern to MNR. S/be about 15 days before receiving a response from them.

Awesome, I'll be waiting! lol 15 days, or longer depending on how many meetings they have scheduled (my dad used to work for the gov't)

  6. A couple of fishing budys and I once had the chance to fish Moon River. When we arrived, the man in charge of the marina said there was a man down on the docks with the local press about to take a picture of a possible record breaker--Musky.

Of course we ran down to see the fish and it was huge. He had trouble holding the fish up past his waiste (chained) for the picture. If I remember correctly, it rang in at forty-seven pounds. It's eyes were deep black and as big as ours.

He caught it top water trolling using large suick, dark in color with an orange belly Near the boat he said it broke water, breaking his rod (and it sure was shattered mid-point) and had to complete the catch with just the reel and reel mount are of what rod he had left. See: http://bigwoodmuskyl...aits&make=Suick

Needless to say, we were there for three days and camped on an island--no one would go in the water after seeing that monster, lol.

Anyway, I, having caught only two 6 lb (20 min apart(immediately released)) muskies in all the years I fished, my goal is to catch a monster this year. I think I will use top running musky spinners or perhaps a suick? Probably fishing Buckhorn or Pidgeon lakes?

Such an epic story. How much $$ does a trip like that run?

  7. So by that definition we shouldn't even be allowed to fish in C&R sections of certain tribs where a Sport or Conservation license has a 0 possession limit.

Remember guys, possession is even when the fish is filleted in your freezer at home. I'm not joking, it's in the regs. You have to package the meat so that you can identify the fish (skin on). I totally didn't know this until I read the regs more carefully.

I'm curious as to this also, unhooking a fish in your hands when you already have your limit...

  8. Is shore fishing possible on Lake Ontario in the Toronto Area?

I've heard there's Pike and Smallmouth from shore at Bluffers Park.

    But only in spring?

Yes! There's Pike in Feb/March (when the lake warms above 40ish) and in the Fall you can get monster pike all along the harbourfront! If you're focusing on toronto shore fishing, have a look at MikeH's website http://fishontoronto.com/

MikeH has some amazing must-reads for anybody doing the urban fishing thing.

  9. Apparently there is a CO working in Ontario that interprets the rules quite literally and will fine anyone who he catches taking a undersized fish out of the water.

Consider how many times they actually catch somebody doing something wrong. I'm sure they have a no tolerance policy.

  10. I used to rely on eBay for saving money on stuff I didn't immediately need. Then I noticed that eBay started Kijiji and I've never looked back. Most of the major things I buy are from postings on kijiji. I've only had good experiences.

The worst experience was when my dad and I were shopping for a dirt bike and the guy that was selling it didn't have ownership papers. Oh well, it's nothing a phone call beforehand can't clear up.

  11. I spent 2 hours at Frenchman's bay last Sunday because I was in the area. I started fishing the public docks at the base of Liverpool road.

Ice: the ice has set in around most of the shallow areas. You're limited to fishing at the docks really.

    IMG_6858.jpg

I started by working a red devil spoon along the bottom parallel to all the docks, taking care to not come close to the dock edges and spooking any fish. No luck after about an hour.

I switched to a rapala size 7 shad crankbait (silver/black). I worked the slowly around the middle of the water around the bridge and along the docks as well. Nothing.

    IMG_6859.jpg

Then I took a stroll down the east and west paths at the base of Liverpool road. The east one brings you alongside the shallow wetland that's iced over. The west one brings you to a "no trespassing" gate. Has that gate ever been opened? It gives you access to all the deeper water!

I did get scared by a huge beaver that surfaced just next to me by the docks though. And I got a nice sunset. Nevertheless, I wish there were fish!

  12. First off I want to really thank everyone for all the help I'm getting with this thread. Thank-you!

I would also add my vote for you to use a leader.

There are plenty of big and small Pike around there.

You shouldn't want to take a chance at losing your lures/hooks/bobbers or worse leaving your lures/hooks in the Pike and possibly crippling or killing them.

Yeah that's what I thought before the handful of people advised against it. I'll look into a thinner leader instead of the bulky ones I've been using, but still I'll be using one.

Also don't know if you are set on catchin a pike or a fish if you just want a fish try for some Browns I am sure there are some browns in there and probably more willing to hit then a pike.

I knew there were trout, but unsure of how to target them.

When it comes to catching pike this time of year as any fish they are all sluggish due to the fact they are cold blooded. The colder the slower and vice versa to a point. Use a leader and slow down your presentation. Suspended baits, swim baits, jigs all will work. The little jetty at ontario place and boat dock on the other side all hold fish all season so keep tryin. My answer would be to get a big soft plastic swim bait/jig and fish it really slowly along bottom rpund 10 am and onward into the day

Do you mean like dead slow dragging along the bottom for moments? I find it hard to get the right speed where it's not draggin on the bottom.

  13. If your going with a minnow. Get a quick strike rig with a large minnow and use it under a float about a foot off the bottom.

Awesome, I'm assuming a sliding float would be needed to suspend 1' off the bottom. I could use a swivel with a bell sinker to the same effect right?

  14. I dunno man, pike aren't exactly picky fish. Perhaps you need something a bit smaller then 130lb flouro leaders, but to tell someone to go leaderless for pike is only going to donate lures to the back of the fishes throat, or to the bottom of the lake.

Well that's what he said, to go leaderless like he was. He also said he had bites, and well, I didn't get bites. This was my second day at this spot in the past week, and nothing.

That's not all, I recognized this guy from a picture on OFF holding some monster pike at this exact spot a month ago. So I knew he meant it.

Getting nothing, so I gotta change something right?

Also, on the issue of leaders read on here: http://www.ontariofishingforums.com/forum/topic/13587-pike-tips/page__view__findpost__p__223947

    Mixed opinions indeed.
