  1. lol

if the question WAS can one actually get drunk off near beer, well, simple logic will tell you the answer."So I was thinking how nice it would be to have a cold 0.5% beer on the boat while fishing and remain within the law, or is anything above 0.0% too much?"

But I did re-read my post and realize it came off kinda idiot-ish, for that I apologize, 28 nights of 12 hour shifts can do that to a person, hehe.

    LOL is right...

Look at what you wrote and what your're trying to prove.

    You are LOL....

Congrats on acting the fool. Maybe (obvious) you shouldn't have been working...

So can two cans of pop, if you want to hyper inflate an argument, lol.

If you drink 2 500ml bottles of water, per hour, for a 24 hour period, the odds of any adverse effects would be slim to none. Maybe lack of sleep due to frequent urination???

Nobody is going to drink 50 near beers anyways, not in one day anyhow. So how did this thread get so off topic???

If you really want an answer to the original question, call the MNR or police and ask them.

Wow, you've missed the point buddy... just right over your head.

For someone to get drunk off Non-Alcoholic Beer they would have to consume (let's speculate and say 50 beers is the drunk mark) 50 beers in like 30 minutes... nobody can physically do that with NA Beer or with water. (Google Hyper-hydration, buddy)

Now you ask how this thread got so off topic... well, it WAS on topic until your post actually. I've highlighted the parts of your post that do not help... there's a serious logic and comprehension fail on your part in your main point with respect to what has been discussed.

  4. Amateurs, all of you.................rofl2.gif

Before i almost died, i would drink 12-14 beers from 6 till 11.30 pm.Every weeknite. On the weekends, i could easily put away 2 cases of 24 per day.Easily, and without feeling bloated. The AVERAGE person could not do that. People like me have a natural tolerance of alcohol, which decreases the longer we keep drinking.

So, yes you can drink 50 cans of near beer, or any other liquid for that matter. But why would you want to. If you are drinking them cause you like them, and prefer them to soft drink, then Bravo to you!!! Enjoy !!

But if you are drinking them cause they help you get by until you get home to the real stuff...then....whistling.gif maybe you should be asking yourself a few questions.

You can't drink that much...not in any time-frame that would allow for the alcohol in Non-Alcoholic Beer to take effect.

Also, most Non-Alcoholic Beer falls way under the 0.5% mark... so if you're trying to get drunk off the wrong brand you're twice as stupid if not more.

Also, drinking too much water reasonably fast (like 50 cans of water or not even that much) can also cause serious problems... messes with the electrolytes/metabolism/chemistry/blah blah blah... just don't do it.

  5. So drinking 50 near beers will kill you, but 50 beers won't. I have been enlighted.

He just means you couldn't drink 50 non-alcoholic beers and get drunk in the boat...

Like, try as hard you want... but you'll never get drunk off the stuff.

I think I even saw something on tv where they did try.. maybe it was Mythbusters...

  6. First of all, reels with triggers do not have an instant anti-reverse. When you strike, the reel turns backwards for a full turn before the line tightens and you often miss the fish.

Trigger mechanisms are made of plastic. They quickly get worn and loose if they are not already loose. Only the cheap reels have triggers.

My Shimanos have triggers and after years of use they haven't come loose or worn away. That's why I recommended the Shimanos... good quality.

As for the trigger itself... no big deal if a reel has it or not.

  7. I love using Gulp leeches on work harnesses.. They last so much longer then worms... When you're in a fly-in lake and the worms are running low, gulp is a great alternative.

Yup, exactly what GULP is great for!

I just find that it's a bit over-rated... just like the Scent sprays.

I think you can also add your own plastic grubs/minnows to GULP tub too if you run out of GULP minnows and they will get some of that GULP scent on them... not sure how well that works though. Might just wash off the instant it hits the water?

  8. I'm a big fan of the Quebec Regulations. It's okay to drink in the boat... just not the driver/operator.

It's not okay to get drunk in the boat though... they will bust you for that if they think you're intoxicated even if you're not driving.

Had a good conversation with a Quebec CO about it while my buddy searched his truck for his license. They were nice enough to follow us back to shore to get it and give him a day or 2 to produce it when he couldn't find it.

  9. Unless you can't get live bait... there's no point in getting Berkeley Gulp. Might as well get actual live bait. Same price I think... Gulp might even be more expensive. I've seen Gulp for $20+ a tub.

    Berkeley Gulp is way overrated.

Suggestions: Spinners (Blue Fox, Mepps, etc.), Crankbaits (Big O, Wally Diver, Rapalas), Spinnerbaits, plastic grubs. The smaller/medium sized will catch more...

  10. Zero beer in the boat, regardless of what it's content is supposed to be.

It's kind of like if your teenage daughter came home to tell you she's pregnant .... but it's okay, she's only a tiny weeny bit pregnant. The amount doesn't really matter.

You might get lucky and face an officer who gives you a break (because he agrees no one will ever get drunk on this stuff) but officially, the OPP has zero tolerance.

The rule is no 'alcoholic' beverages in the boat. Not 'no beer'...

If non-alcoholic beer has no alcohol it should be fine. Someone said they got checked by MNR having non-alcoholic beer without a problem.

Maybe just try and get a beer that has 0% on the label instead of 0.5%...

  11. I've found Shimano reels to be great. I've used the 2 of the $40 range reels for 15 years now. One was a SureShot and forget the other model name... I think it's actually a SureShotII. Both still good

Don't get a Quantum reel. My buddy has had 3 of them break on him... don't know the model though.

UglyStik rods are almost unbreakable and popular. Maybe look for a reel/Uglystik combo...

  12. I'm pretty sure the 'Poor Man's Lobster' is LING. Something about the flesh being like lobster. I don't think it's just about boiling it with the butter.

    Or maybe it is... dunno.gif

Not sure... I've never cooked a Ling. Is their flesh/taste like Lobster?

But I bet that Walleye was good though!

    Cheers

  13. You only gotta ever do it once, and it's about $40+tax if you do it at BoaterExam.com and use a coupon code to get ten bucks off. My wife and I both just did ours not long ago. Just check RetailMeNot.com for a coupon code.

Don't lose your card though... it can take a long time for them to replace it. And if the company you got it with is no longer in business then you'll have to do it again.

A marine officer recommended I leave my original at home and just carry a photocopy in the boat for just that reason.

  14. I know someone who fries his Lake Trout and says it's good. They're only about 5lbs though from a small Quebec lake... not beasts like in that pic.

I would never do it though... trout tastes great and it seems like a waste to fry it. Like it would overpower the great taste of trout.

  15. talk about a bunch of fuddy duddies.

hockey (or any sport really) can cost a family 15000 a year and without this fundraising many simply wouldn't be there.

i'm very glad that there was fundraising when i played hockey as it wasn't something that was easy for my single mother to afford growing up.

want something in return? how about the knowledge that you're helping out a kid and there might be a few kids on that team too poor to afford what others take for granted.

They don't need to go take a trip to Cuba to play baseball then... that's excessive.

  16. I never donate money to middle class Canadians to "support" them as they drive their son to sports games in their 50,000$ SUV with 700$ of hockey equip in the back.

    I give to real charities.

I refuse to do team fundraisers for my kids hockey - I just throw in $ instead - I am too embarrassed to ask for $$ to support my family's lifestyle choices.
