  1. Has anyone done any shore fishing along the Grand in the last year or so? I used to fish the area from Caledonia to Cayuga in my younger days but haven't been out there in years. Caught most of my fish around York and a bit towards Caledonia, (particularly the old dam), and Cayuga (upriver) The old girl has changed somewhat since then, and now with more time on by hands, would like to try it again. Thanks
  2. Haven't fished Erie for a long time and was just wondering if it is worth while fishing off the dock at Dover for some perch. Got time on my hands next week, thought I would head out to the Grand or Erie. Have to shore fish, sold my boat some years ago. Thanks
  3. Thanks again for the info on triploids, I thought I knew what it meant, but I was wrong. Armed with this new info I can impress my fishing buddies at the next get-together.
  4. thanks northernpike5391 I usually fish the near end (gate end) and am told it is 25 ft. deep and probably the coldest part of the ponds. (cold is a relative term here) We did have good luck in July fishing this area with Powerbaits although the fish were small. I'm not familiar with the term "triploids" although I have heard it somewhere.
  5. I was just wondering if anyone believes that the rainbows are fished out at this time of year. I have taken the grandkids there several times and others I've met said they think they are just about fished out. I started to take them there around the beginning of July and caught 5 trout since then, but nothing in the last three times. I've heard they do not stock anymore this year?? Has anyone ever fished the section closest to the lake for trout? I'm not all too familiar with the ponds but others have said that the trout move around a lot, but I tend to think they stay in deeper water where its cold. Any thoughts or opinions will be appreciated. Thanks,
  6. That's not a bad idea, never thought of taking them there. Thanks
  7. Its funny you should say that as that's exactly what I planned to do while the kids were fishing close to shore. Slip floats are not a problem as I have lots of them but I think you have to go deep on these hot days to have a chance of getting a few of what's left from the spring stock. Thanks
  8. Thanks, that's what I thought. I used to fish there many years ago and that was the situation then. The important thing for them is to get them out for a day and have some fun, when they get older, we can get a little more serious.
  9. I've taken the grandkids here three time this season but all they catch is small panfish, sunfish etc. around the weedy edges. I'm told there are trout in these ponds as well. Does anyone know how deep the ponds are and if there are areas more productive for trout? The kids certainly don't mind catching all the little fish but they keep asking me how come they don't catch trout. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. Twocoda: I don't post a lot but read the boards every week, hoping I can get some good info, or better yet, help someone else but I just had to say what a good quote you had for ckoz Re: "fishing is called fishing...not catching". I tell my grandchildren it's a day out together, what else do you need. Thanks
  11. Has anyone fished at the Tyneside Rd end. It looks pretty marshy and hard to fish. Thanks
  12. Thanks again for all your input. We tried Valens but the shoreline was choked with weeds and the bridge produced not one bite. Tried some of the fishing docks but they were enclosed with weed growth. Lost lots of sinkers and hooks. Probably try Christie next time based on what the Pikehunter had to say. We went to Binbrook the same day, caught a lot of small sunfish and bass (verrry small lol), but will likely try there again off the docks. Great site, and we appreciate all the suggestions you fellas have.
  13. Thanks guys, no boat, so I think I'll give Valens a try.
  14. I'm thinking of taking my 6yr old grandson fishing at either Valens or Christies CA . Does anyone have any opinion as to whether either is better and if so where to fish for panfish. thanks
  15. Thanks guys, spring fishing has always been my best and favourite time. I may go out once more to binbrook this year but I certainly will be there in the spring. I also want to try fifty point and waterford ponds. I usually go up north or northeast but for the sake of my young protege, I try these stocked areas. thanks again for all your input.
  16. Thank you all for your responses, I'm sure they will be very helpful. But, you know, I shouldn't have expected anything less from the fishing community. I have been fishing Ontarion for over, well, for a long time and I hope I can help others who want info on fishing spots. I have a feeling this is a great site and will visit here often. Once again, thanks to everyone for your help.
  17. Hii, I'm new to this forum, just found it by accident, but it looks like the kind of place I'd like to visit a lot more. I would like to ask a question about Lake Niapenco in Binbrook. I would like to take my grandson, 5-1/2 yrs., fishing there. We have been twice and fished from shore as I don't have a boat. He caught several tiny sunfish and that was fun for a while but now I would like for him to catch some crappie or rock bass or something like that. Does anyone know of places where we could fish from shore? The girl at the gate said the dam was a good place, haven't tried that yet. Someone told me Tyneside Road area was good. I would appreciate someones opinion. Thanks
