    Hey Guys,

The girlfriend decided to book a trip to an all inclusive in Cayo Coco Cuba for our joint Birthday and Anniversary. Well wouldnt you know it, apparently Cayo Coco has some of the best flats fly fishing in the world.

Anyone every chartered a guide out of there? or perhaps did it solo? Im thinking id like to hire a guide for a day to get out on a skiff, but would be cool if I could pop out for a few hours on my own as well during the week to wet a line.

A lot depends if you are staying on Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillarmo (sp?),about 50kms apart.I think most guide boats operate from Guillarmo. Another option is getting a car to take you to Lenny's.He will drop you off & ask when you want to be picked up.Lennys is a lobster shack on a very remote stretch on beach.A cab will cost about 25 to 30 CUC return from resorts on Coco & 50 CUC from Guillarmo.I have seen several people fishing there. Also the trip to Lennys is allways a highlight of our trips.Very scenic & the food is great.I'm sure your GF would love Lennys

  3. Eagle Lake is a possibility as well, take it up a notch & go after the very healthy muskie population.Temple Bay Lodge has a full American Plan c/w guides etc.Not sure if Northshore Lodge has A/P but lots of big fish on their FB page.Lots of lodges on Eagle.

You can get aftermarket ones that you can start from anywhere on the planet.

Even some OEM units can do this like the Ford Pass ones.

Just open an app on your phone and click on the start button.

GF has a new Ford Escape, she has Ford Pass, she left it parked in my driveway when she flew to the east coast to visit family. She checked the app on her phone everyday to see if I had driven it.It works ok to remote start IF the cell reception is good, which can be spotty in this neck of the woods.

  5. Good for you Simon.Just a word of caution.

As you know I spent so time in the local tackleshop as the "official part-time old guy".

Some of the visiting tourist fishermen can "suck the nice" out of you with their attitudes in a very short time. Not all of them but enough that I'm not going back.

Hopefully you have thicker skin then me.

  6. Brian, bacon wrapped baked potatoes! Good sized bakers and completely wrap them in bacon, using tooth pics to hold the bacon in place. I suggest that they are best done in the oven, 375 for about an hour. BBQ tends to flare up a bit with the bacon drippings.

I do a lot of bacon wrapped stuff (peppers, waterchestnuts, veggies etc) on my BBQ,use the upper rack with a foil tray underneath to catch the drippings.

  7. There is a fly in operator just a few miles down the road from me.

It seems the Americans (most of the customers vs Canadian fishermen) tip,not so much for the Canadians.

It seems the going average is $10 - 20 bucks per person each way.Not much when you consider the cost of the overall price & these pilots only have a few months to make their living.

  8. Pretty a wicked hook set in the hand Simon.

Every year a smallmouth nests under my dock, another week or so & she will show up to attack the dogs when they wade in for a drink.

I haven't kept & ate bass for years but when I did they were worm free & imo very tasty.

Maybe because of the cold deep water in this lake?

  9. Lac Seul is a great fishery for sure, but there any almost countless options when it comes to crown land camping and great fishing.

If you have a couple years to research you will find lots of options.

Lots of easy access spots & several other not so easy options.

It's almost a local joke when people talk about their secret lake, everybody has at least one!

  10. Just to let you know,Wpg Man is a little over 2 hrs to Kenora (LOTW) & 3 to Vermilion Bay.

ThBay is 4 1/2 to V Bay & 5 1/2 to the Kenora area. The drive to TBay sucks, the drive from the Manitoba border to our area is very scenic.

I advise all my visitors flying in from the east to take the Winnipeg route.
