  1. I don't have too much experience or knowledge about the regulations of sledding etc. But are there no laws about having to wear a floater suit when driving/sledding on open water? If not, would it not make sense given all the other laws we have like hand-held devices while driving, etc... Almost wonder if they should include Ice fishing with that as well. Its not even so much to protect the person who is out there, but to reduce the risk of the people who need to rescue them. just my .02cents
  2. Actually, I just happened to come across a very good place. As you mentioned though, there seems to be some updated more than others. Just in case anyone is interested, here is the link My link or cut and paste: http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=89.0
  3. Hope I did not imply "Safe Ice" thread? Is there such a thing? I guess it takes a bit more education than the potential users which may take a pinned post about Ice Conditions as Safe Ice. No worries, I probably should have known better than to make a suggestion.
  4. I wasn't thinking it would be something official or legally binding if that is what you mean. Not sure how else to get a general idea of ice conditions unless I drive 4hours to check the ice. I get where you are coming from, but the posts are already coming in, just thought it would be a nice thing to have for members.
  5. Just a suggestion, I see a lot of questions and decent supply of Ice Conditions on our lakes. But wonder if it would be a good idea to create stickys for specific Lakes etc. example. 2011 Nipissing Ice Conditions, etc. I like seeing the updates as they flow in and would be nice to have this available at our fingertips, as I don't see this anywhere on the net. I can give an update after I return from Nipissing on the weekend of Jan 14th!
  6. Good to hear.... I am staying with Marc on the w/o of Jan 14th. So far we are off to a very good, cold start!
  7. Hi guys, just got back from a 3 night stand with Anglers Haven on Lake Nipissing. Fishing was a bit slow, maybe 20 perch a few whitefish and some mudpups , but that is how it goes. We used the day huts twice, from early afternoon until just past dark. The last day, we were getting some very aggressive strikes but could not seem to land them. Personally, I think our reaction time was down a bit from all the alcohol . The group next to us pulled out some Walleye and a Pike, so they were biting. As for the operator, Anglers Haven. They provide phenomenal service to their guests and will go out of their way to make sure you have everything. Forgot something..... ask them, they might be able to get it for you. Out of supplies (smokes, beer) ask them, and they will "hook" you up. Mark (owner) and Jamie (employee), are both great guys and earned my respect for providing top notch service. I would, and will go back next year! Our entire group was already asking me about going there next year. I can't wait......
  8. I didn't expect an actual hut operator to post a reply, or else I would have asked an owner directly. (was more of a generalized question) Considering we have 12 guys for 3 nights, I am just guessing the savings could be substantial. Not sure what would be a fair value though. I will ask when we get there and hopefully not put them on the spot.
  9. Any issues with the ice or episodes of vehicles going into Nipssing recently? From what I hear it has been very cold, so I am guessing not..... but you never know. We will be near Wades Landing, and hoping to drive out.
  10. Do the hut opertors offer a better price if paying cash (ie. no receipt) vs the quoted pricing? Thought I would ask because I know some businesses that prefer just straight old cash and less headaches for taxes. See you all this Friday on Nipissing..... keep an eye out for us, we will be the ones with all the fish!!!
  11. We did that already...... but I guess we missed a couple of things. Seeing as my last email was not answered, I couldn't be bothered re-sending again. So I figured that someone such as yourself would have nothing else to do but answer my questions.... just kidding!
  12. I booked the w/o of Feb 12th for a group of 12 with Anglers Haven @ Nipissing, and have a few questions for anyone who has been. 1) Is there a coffee pot in the cabin? 2) Is there a radio/TV or CD/DVD player? I have already asked them a few questions and don't want to keep bugging them.
  13. Used Glen Echo last year, would definetly use them again. They aim to please! This year we are trying Anglers Haven w/o of Feb 12th, only to try someone new.
  14. The kind I am referring to were the wooden ones we were supplied with at the huts, and are simply an L shaped base with a flat piece of wood as the rod and a nail attached in the middle as pivot point. I had to laugh at the comment they are meant to be closely monitored, because we did the "Set it and forget it" tactic, and drank beer. Live and learn i guess. I think I will go buy a couple more of the good tip ups before we go again in Feb. Hey, another dumb question. How do you guys deal with your lines freezing into the sides of the hole? Or is that just something you deal with? Sometimes it got pretty hard to dig the lines off the sides which made me think we were damaging the line.
  15. I know this will probably make some laugh, but here goes the question anyway. (remember, I have only gone ice fishing once and most of the time was spent drinking) Why would the fish not be able to just pull the tip up down the hole once it was hooked? We never caught any on the tip-ups so no experience with this but considering they were those little wooden supplied ones. I just could not imagine anything other than a perch, not dragging the whole thing down the hole. laugh away.... but I am sure it must happen.
  16. Hi Guys, my first post on the site and just happened to stumble across this site as I was getting ready to book a package at Snowfari Adventures, thank god I did not yet. I did a search on google for some reviews and ended up here at the following link Snowfari Having read what some of you have posted, I am not going there now. We have 10 of us and was the only place I could find so far that had 10 man huts. Any other suggestions???? Last year we went, there was six of us and we stayed at Glen Echo. The hosts were great people and we would go again, but as I mentioned we are trying to get a 10 man hut. Also, we only caught 1 walleye and this year we had better catch more!!! Good to see there are sites like this before friends waste money with crappy service. cheers!
