  1. Hey everyone. I'm in the process of trying to plan our annual guys fishing trip. Over the last 15 years we have been to all sorts of places. I was wonder if anyone knows of and can recommend any operators that have ice bungalows within 6 hours or so from the GTA that are not on Nipissing, Simcoe or Temagami. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  2. Hey guys. I have a trip planned for Maple Lake next week. I've never fished it before so I'm going in blind. Does anyone have any info on where to start to get into some Lakers and Walleye? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I want to get the boys on some fish. Feel free to PM if you like. Thanks. Tight lines

I'd shoot for redstone/eagle area, but in january the ice can still be sketchy on some of those bigger lakes. Lots and lots of smaller lakes in that area, and if you have machines to get around, you could fish a handful of lakes each day if you wanted for specks/splake. Maple would be my choice for walleye.

Haliburton/percy lake can also be great for trout, and decent whities as well.

Perfect. Thanks so much for the info. Really appreciate it.

  4. Hey guys. With the cold weather today it got me thinking about ice fishing this year. I'm looking to plan a trip in mid January around the haliburton area. I've done some research and narrowed it down to a handful of lakes. We have a group of guys going so mainly just want to get into some numbers of fish if possible with size being a bonus. Target species would be Lakers and Walleyes. If you guys had to chose between these 5 lakes what would you chose?

Maple, Redstone, Eagle, Kushog or Kashagawigamog.

I don't want to blow up anyone's spot or anything so feel free to DM me if you like. Any info would help guys. I've never really ice fished this area. Cheers guys.

I believe you. I wish you posted a pic with this beauty sliced.
Do you mind sharing the recipe?

Butterflied a pork tenderloin. Rubbed it with a typical BBQ rub. Spread a thin layer of ground sausage on the tenderloin followed by a thin layer of Havarti cheese. Seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Rolled it up tight and then wrapped with bacon. Put it in the smoker using hickory at 270°. After about 50 mins I started basting it with a chipotle beer BBQ sauce every 15 mins or so until the internal temp got to 140°f. Took it out and let it rest for about 15 mins before slicing.

  6. Hey guys. I'm looking into purchasing a used ATV that I would be using for ice fishing. I have never owned one before. I'm curious to know what I should be looking for in terms of requirements that an ATV must have to be able to perform well on the ice. Does it need to be a 4x4 or would 2 wheel drive work? What is the minimum CCs that I would need? What brands perform better in cold weather? Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Wondering if all the "stop the drop" crowd is happy yet, that wouldn't listen that the issue was cyclic and spent millions of $$'s on studies and town hall meetings??!!

Last week the "tide" came in to Penetang Harbour and had the entire wharf, parking lot and the Dock Lunch under water.

I believe you've  been in the area for a long time. What's your expert opinion on why the water is up so high? A few years back they were preaching the "stop the drop" campaign when the water was so low. Is it just a natural cycle?

  8. Just wanted to give a heads up that if you're boating on Georgian Bay to be very careful if you don't know the water especially when venturing outside of the buoys. The water this year is the highest that I have seen it in 20+ years. Entire islands are now submerged just below the surface. Lots of potential hazards out there. Good news is that the high water has given a lot more spawning areas for Bass this year. Be careful guys.

At this time in a wet, damp, cold, cloudy and just miserable winter with another trip south months away I could really use a Taro fix. If I had 10% of his energy I would be doing a 10K run, OK 2K. I am having trouble getting to the show. Laptop says "site unavailable" or some such thing when I Google it. Can someone please give me a link to Face Book or where ever I can see the new series. Loved the last one.

Moosebunk, bang on post. A member of The Great Generation at the plant once told me, "Make them come up to your level, never go down to theirs." That was over 40 years ago and it should be plastered at the top of every social media site. By the way my God Daughter just had her second Strawberry haired baby, in a row!!. You guys may just be taking over the planet Earth soon.

Bill Taylor was the man. WW2 veteran and leader of men. He lied about his age and went to Europe at 17 years young. Some 17 year olds then and now were and are afraid to leave their basements. He was famous for holding court on the Blast Furnace Cast House floors sketching diagrams in chalk on anything that was flat. R.I.P. Bill.

  10. I have a pop up hut that has a small slit near the bottom of one of the walls caused by an auger blade. The slit is about 5 inches long. I was thinking about patching it up with just a piece of duct tape or gorilla tape. Has anyone had an issue similar to this and if so what did you use to fix the problem? Thanks.
