  1. Like you, I will never bring my WRX to the dealership again.

I've had my car for over 3 years now and I go to a mechanic that works almost exclusively on Subaru's.

He's in Markham though. If you want I can give you contact info.

From what I've heard, Seven Automotive is a great option.

I've also had problems with bringing mine to the dealership for services a well. Last time they left a nice dent in the side skirt and tried to blame it on me lol. Seven auto is good with great customer service.

  2. Not a river rat myself but why ban roe? It's plentiful, can't be invasive in transport like baitfish, crawfish etc...and takes personal time to cure, tie, etc. Not to mention it's in the fish these guys catch and with proper legal harvest your entitled i would think. What is not right is taking roe and leaving fish dead on bank. Perhaps reasoning for banning as that is a sight everybody see's on the shores of creeks.

    Tightlines,

    MTBF

This is true, and if banning roe would end this I'd be 100% for it.

  3. The fish did go back, but after the double gill hold it was bleeding badly and certainly went belly up

Even worse than keeping it. What a waste. Personally I won't gill a fish unless I'm certain I'm keeping it. Only if they understood that catch and release only works if the fish is handled with care <_<

Ah...by shank I thought you meant he cut it open. I stand corrected.

  4. I watched someone shank a handsome brown, pushing 10 lbs. It immediately got the double gill grab and was tossed into the dirt. Of course I was the idiot when I mentioned it needed to go back in the water...

I had watched this fish swim past my feet about 2 minutes earlier and thought too bad, you'll never make it past the barbarians upstream.

Damn that's unfortunate. I understand it's in their legal right to keep the fish, but why a big brown like that... :wallbash:

  5. You know it's bad when the male chinnies get slit and left to rot :(

Saw a whole pile of them the other day. 1 female slit, in a pile of 5 males that were also slit.. What a shame..

This picture was posted on facebook by someone yesterday too..

    Disgusting...

  6. the customer service desk in vaughan lacks any shred of customer service skills in my experience...go to the fishing counter and ask for the manager, i've exchanged 2 broken rods without a receipt

Agreed, I broke about 6 inches off the tip of a rod last year and brought it in. They replaced it no questions asked, but first had to call a manager from the fishing department.

  7. I'm still new to fishing, been mainly interested in pike so far (always catch and release), but would like to fish for something I can eat and actually enjoy it! I love sushi and always been a big fan of smoked salmon and salmon roe, but all of that is quite pricy to buy, unfortunately.

    So I was wondering;

    1) What is the best Salmon to eat? Steelhead?... and

    2) Where can I catch them (from shore) that would be clean enough to eat without being worried about consuming toxins and what not?

I'm in Hamilton, and eating fish from the Harbour out of the question. lol

    Thanks!

If you wait a month or so the chinook should be within casting distance at the piers. Personally I wouldn't eat any of the larger ones, but smaller ones are ok now and then.

  8. I don't have a GoPro of my own but if you're planning on doing underwater video-making with one, you definitely will want to either make your own flat lens modification or purchase the flat lens housing mod like this:

Frozen-Fire has the Hero2 (and the eye of mine flat lens housing) and the results look pretty good

I'm not a huge fan of the wideangle footage when you're shooting above water though.

Terry, the green water thing is very normal - I experience it a lot when shooting underwater pics with my camera even in gin clear water. I think I read somewhere that the deeper you shoot, the more green/blue it gets because of the way that light gets filtered through water (red & yellow get filtered out first leaving you with green/blue). Algea and stirred up silt can also be a problem causing that greenish look too.

GoPro just released this new underwater housing: http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/dive-housing/
