  1. Hi guys,

The format has stayed the same with a few new twists. This year you will notice that all the shows are organized by technique. Last nights show was about crankbaits so we had Davey Hite answering a question on getting better at cranking, John Crews talking about the new Little John DD from Spro, Grant Koppers with the Live Target Pumpkinseed, Carey Bever with the Lucky Craft Flat CB D-20 in the two new Skeet Reese Sig Series colors, KVD talking about his new Mustad KVD Elite Series Trebles, Justin Poe and Bob Izumi on the Shimano Cumara Reaction Series rods, Matt Newmann talking about the new Laser Lure DD 7-9 foot diver and of course Mr. Mercer raving about the new Rapala DT Thug which is the lure we took to the water and it worked great for us.

The nice thing this year is we actually had a bit more time to put together montages of the boat and truck, launching and running with an even more aggressive graphics package plus I get to make myself look like an ass in some more bloopers at the end...lol

We have had a bunch of great feedback for the show and we always have a few that call it an infomercial but the viewers have to realize that the show is NOT sponsored or paid by any company that manufactures fishing tackle.. this show was designed solely to showcase what's new and exciting for the coming year and it's goal is to help companies get their product's information to the public.

Thanks for checking it out guys, I appreciate it!

  2. Bottom line is, if you want an accurate weight you need a very high quality scale, and those cost serious money. One of the best (Chatillon) is a traditional spring scale that shows the weight with a metal pin, not an LCD panel.

Truer words have never been spoken! I'm like Charles with the weighing but I have also been running a Chatillion for the last 3 years and have never been more than .2 lbs off on my entire bag of fish! They work out to $80 Canadian by the time they get here but you will never have to buy batteries, never worry about getting them wet and best of all never have to guess how big the fish actually is.

Mine looks like a dog has used it for a chew toy and still works perfectly... sold brass and well designed. I have a 50 pounder for Carp and Salmon, a 10 for mid sized fish and my tournament one is the 6 lb version which measures in 1 ounce increments...if I'm culling 6 pounders I'm pretty sure I'm going to win that event!

    Best money I ever spent!

  3. I was told by Wil Wegman that the Kawartha strain of Muskies are very different than the Great Lakes strain since the Great Lakes critters are used to living with Pike, their spawning habits and areas they frequent are different to that of the Kawartha strain that have no Pike to contend with.

The first time they stocked Musky in Simcoe in the 90's they used Kawartha strain Musky and it failed miserably, the next round was with Georgian Bay fish and the did much better... I guess a Musky is not like all other Musky even if they all do smell like a bag of pennies

  4. I always fogged my 2 stroke motors that didn't have oil injection like the Optimax motors do if I stored them outside in the winter. The quick way to do it is to remove the plugs, spray a 5 second shot of fogging oil into the plug opening, put the plugs back in, connect the spark plug wires, pull the kill switch and crank the motor for 10-20 second. This will lubricate the cylinder walls with the oil without firing the motor.

This should be done after the stabilizer is run through the fuel lines.

Don't forget to change your gear case oil as well.

  5. That's cool Garry, like I said, I have no problem using the technology to my advantage, especially if it helps me keep my carpal tunnel at bay! :)

By the way, the Stradic Ci4 2500 weighs the same as the 1000 MgFB.. big difference in line capacity there, especially when drop shotting on lakes like Simcoe, Erie and Lake O when you need to get the line a mile out.

Grimace, What's a drag? Haven't used one on a flipping reel in over 15 years! But hey, to each is own!

  6. I had a chance to fish the reel Garry and I was very happy with it.. mainly because they were able to cut almost 30% of the weight compared to the MgFB. The reel is actually stronger than the Mg with the new carbon fiber alloy. They have been using it as a material for rear derailleurs in cycling and it has been thoroughly tested. Now I'm not saying you should run out an buy one but you may want to give one a spin to see what they can do... with the 7 oz weight they are a great reel for drop shotting and shakey head fishing where combo balance is a definite advantage.

BTW... I have been punishing my Curados both D's (4 Years) and E's (2 years) and have put my Chronarch Mg 50's (4 years now) through hell and back again and have never had a problem... don't let graphite side plates fool you... they can take a serious beating! They have all been beat down with 65 lb braid for frogging and flipping and have never had to service one! If you don't believe me just ask to see them, they look like they have been dragged behind the boat for the miles they have on them..lol

  7. Hi nuker,

The US2 works fine, I have been running a built in transducer for 5 years now and have had great success with them.I still run mine on a splitter with my side imaging transducer on the motor as well. The adapter for the US2 is only for temp and depth, nothing more and should only go into the sonar port for the graph, not the power... if that adapter you ordered is only fitting the power inlet then I would assume they sent you the wrong model.

  8. With the smaller diameter lines the uni to uni is one of the best. I have been using the Duncan Loop on the braid end to a Perfection loop on the fluoro end and then join them loop to loop. Haven't broken it yet and it spreads the bulk of the knot over 3 sections making them smaller and flow through the guides easier. Best part is when you re-tie because your leader gets short all you have to do is the Perfection loop which takes 3 seconds!

  9. Congrats Mike on a fish of a lifetime!!! Well done on the video and the release as well. You'll remember her for the rest of your life and smile every time you think about the fight!

Fish like that have a way of embedding several things in your brain... how warm the water felt that day, the smell in the air that morning, the temp and even the sound of the strike... enjoy it bud, you deserve it! Keep at it and eventually you'll get your 7.

  10. If you're working weeds that will be your best bet but slow down your presentation and try working through the beds with texas rigged baits and jigs. On sunny days look for the shallows to heat up later in the afternoon.

Once the cooler nights start coming and the water temperatures start to drop the weedline fishing gets going pretty good and fish start to stack up in them. The only problem is sometimes you have to flip lots of weeds to find the schools! Patience is key when flipping weedlines since they can run for entire shorelines in those lakes but if you find the inside turns and underwater points they can pay off huge.

One other thing is that the fish will start relating to the bait more and more as the year goes on and they will move as the bait moves... here today and gone tomorrow is a common thing in the fall... you just have to find them again because they are somewhere feeding!

  11. Just use 65 lb Power Pro and all your problems will disappear! ;) I switched 6 years ago and haven't looked back... I maybe lose 1 hook and weight a year to break off which is always my fault and any other loses are due to filthy toothy critters...

30 pound braid in reeds and bull rushes is pretty light, especially if you're pitching back a ways into them.

  12. Fishnwire, many of the companies have been introducing product lines that are available with both rattles and without. Lucky Craft is releasing their newest Pointer, the Silent Pointer and Rapala just came out with the DT Thug which is a Balsa wood bait with no rattles or weight transfer system... Most of the Japanese baits that I fish also come in both choices.

I think you are not the first with those thoughts and on clear lakes the silent baits can definitely make a difference at the end of the day!

  13. This new harmonized tax won't help anyone except the government... businesses will have to charge more but it's not their money... their remittances will just get bigger every month... as for the consumer end of things.. I had the opportunity to talk to a PST Auditor while he audited my company and he even said that the $1000 rebate was bogus since it will cost the average Canadian household $5000 more per year!!!

The only thing that will be easier on the business end is the ease of remitting once rather than separately and for the businesses that have to track taxable items that fall into different categories like Tax Exempt, PST only, GST only or Both Taxes... Now I'm wondering what they are going to do with the liquor tax?

They are all crooks but somehow I think we as Canadians will find a way!

  14. One thing that happens every opener if the temps remain cold late into June is that the bigger fish will go off to the first drops in weedlines and sulk after the spawn. This usually lasts a couple of weeks before the majority get back into the mood to hammer baits. Some fish that are shallow or aggressive are early spawners and have gone through the recuperation stage necessary after the rigors of nesting...

Be patient and you'll get you big ones, if you can't wait, try fishing slow and a bit deeper...

  15. Bucktail,

If fish are following and not committing there are a couple of things you can try. Color, like mentioned can be very important, especially in clear water so try changing colors of the bait that's getting them to follow and if that doesn't work try changing the size. Last but not least would be the weight size. I have had many days where a 1/4 jig would catch nothing but the faster fall of a 1/2 jig would drive them crazy. It takes some time due to the amount of combination's but there is always something they are willing to commit to.

As a general rule, longer casts will also put more fish in your boat since you will have less chance of spooking them.
