  1. thank you everyone for your replies. As I suspect, it probably isn't the best time to go out but the MRS is giving me some free time and I'm going to make the best of it. A bad day on the water is better than a good day changing diapers... :thumbsup_anim: . Let me give the guys you sugguested a call and see how I do. Hopefully there will be a report on Monday from me.

    Nick

I recommend Al as listed in one of the prior posts. Al lives on the lake, and knows it very well.

  2. I picked up a couple of the St. Croixs at BPS. There is no reason you can't attach one of your summer reels to it, save some cash for other gear. 6lb mono is my choice, don't get fooled by ice line, it all freezes up. I like to start with the biggest hole possible (Jiffy 10"). I fish in some nasty cold and blowing snow. The smaller the hole the faster it becomes unfishable because of ice and snow build up. On alot of ocassions I start with a 10" hole but by the end of the day it's a 4" hole. Start big is my advice.

  3. I fought with the decission on whether to buy a tonneu cover or a cap. I decided to go with the cap, and that has proven time and time again to be the right choice. Having a cap doubles the amount of gear I can carry. Not only that but I feel they are much more secure then a cover. Looks good to.

  4. Went to cast this area last wekend and it was still frozen where I wanted to fish. It will also cost you to park in the parking lot . BRUTAL, the Town of Whitby should be ashamed of themselves. Charging people to park at the marsh, what a way to get families there to learn about the environment.

I tried the end of Brock last weekend and didn't see any caught. My buddy had a small hammerhandle follow but no commit. Also try other marinas off the lake with bays. Click on googlemaps and do some research. There are alot of places to try. Do this now, you only have two days left to enjoy this opportunity. Tuesday is the last day before the season is closed on pike for a month.

  5. Alot of oxidation on the motor. I would also suspect this motor was sunk. If the outside of the motor wasn't taken care of better , i could only imagine what the internal parts hold for you. If it was me, I think I would walk away from this one. I also notice it's going to need a new prop with that chunk missing from it.

  6. I just got back from my local tackle shop to do some hands on research with both the Curado and the Revo. Both are the same price range and I tended to favour the Revo over the Curado. The Curado's retrieve was no where near as smooth as the Revo. I also found the Revo to be much more comfortable in hand with a flatter top to rest your thumb. I am also new to these units so I want to make sure I am getting the most comfortable reel the first time. Go see Dave at Hirk's Tackle in Courtice. He will let you try out both models on a rod, or better yet bring the rod you wish to pair with it and try it on the rod.

  7. My God guys. What's with all the flack you give to a guy who legally catches a fish, poses for a photo, and decides to share his experiences with the other members of this forum. I know for a fact that this fish was kept for the dinner plate. So maybe you should get all the facts before you belittle someone who has done nothing wrong. Is it because you have nothing better to do, or because your wife wouldn't let you go fishing? I don't know.

You guys are forgetting what these forums are all about. They are set up to help people become better anglers, and to showcase a catch that obviously the catcher is proud of. Before you start typing garbage about someone, stop and ask yourself this question. Does my post benefit the readers? Will other people enjoy reading it? If you answer no to these questions then don't bother posting. If your post is negative, you are not helping anyone. If you see something illegal, or just plain wrong, sure, post a note telling them what should have been done so others may learn from this. Leaving posts like " I BLEEPIN HOPE SO" helps noone and may deter a member from sharing their experiences in fear that they are going to get slammed by someone else. Okay I'm done my rant.

  8. Hey Diggyj, I also hit a few spots today to throw for some pike but nothing for me. I went to Frenchman's Bay (east side) first, then went to Whitby at the end of Brock for another try. A buddy had a small hammer trail him, but didn't commit. If your heading out again tomorrow shoot me a PM and maybe we can hook up out there. WTG on a nice fish.

  9. What a devastating read that was. It proves that even though we, as mankind, with all our machines and ideas are still just a midget when it comes to the power of mother nature. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends. Please use caution around our thawing lakes.

  10. The leeches (3") rock. I went through 3 tubs last softwater season. Caught everything from perch, crappie, smallies, largies, and eyes. My kids love them also. I would rip a small piece of the leech off for them to use with a hook and float rig, and they would catch over 20 fish on a single piece of this stuff. No more rebaiting messy worms for me. Bought the shiners also and the fall crappie went nuts on them. I am a believer. Have you seen the new gulp Alive products out there for this season. Nuclear something, they look like a craw that you would hook up to a flippin jig rig. They have changed the tub also. The Gulp people are definately expanding the product line for thee upcoming season.
