  1. Awesome, thanks for the advice. Ive had great success with minnows for bass and walleye, but Ive never fished anywhere that had any type of trout, so had no idea what to use for em.
  2. Im going to head up to Heart Lake sometime this week and try for some rainbows, as ive heard that it isnt very crowded and offers some ok fishing. Is it true that I have to use a very light line for trout? I was thinking of just bringing my 6' canadian methods and then spooling my extra spool with whatever type of line you guys suggest. Mepps inline spinners a good choice?
  3. Ok, anywhere up to 2 hours from say, DVP and 401. Im willing to drive if it means I can get in an ok days fishing
  4. My heaviest rod is a 6'6 Shimano, MH action, spinning. Would this be alright for pike fishing, or would I be pushing my luck?
  5. Ah, my bad. I meant that I was looking for shore spots on Lake Ontario, around Toronto. I dont care about what species I am going for, I just like to fish, but I dont have a boat. Would anyone know of any ok spots that allow fishing along the shore?
  6. Ive used the almighty google, but havent been able to find a lot of shore fishing spots in Ontario that were highly spoken of. Do any lakes offer decent shore fishing? I'll fish for anything, sunfish if I have to, I just like to fish, so if anyone knows of any decent spots Id love to hear em. PM me if you'd rather not publish your spot. Im going to try the islands once bass opens up, but from what I hear it can get really busy there. Maybe some other Lake Ontario shore spots? Or, if anyone could point me towards a good resource? thanks again
  7. Just trying to make sure Ive got everything I need with me as Im going to be going after some pike Id like to be able to land it properly. Pliers, wire cutters, net, that all i really need?
  8. Shore, I dont have a boat. I ended up with a 6'6 med heavy, I couldnt find any 7 footers in MH and also a 2 piece in stock at any of the places I went. I do use leaders, I think it was someone else that said they dont
  9. Going up to my cottage this weekend and interested in trying out wacky rigging to see if I can shake up a few bass. Any suggestions for setups you've found productive? I see that there are now jigheads specifically meant for wacky rigging but Ive yet to find them at canadian tire or le baron
  10. I actually just got an 8'6 Daiwa Salmon/Steelhead rod but was thinking that it was a bit overkill for the pike Id be going after in my lake, Lake Vernon. Ive never hooked into any pike that was over 10-15lbs there, and I usually only have a 6 footer with me. My current "main" rod is a Fenwick Canadian Methods 6 footer, light action. I like it for the sensitivity for jigging and such, but Id never throw a big spoon on it and try to land some pike. As for the baitcaster, I am TERRIBLE with one.
  11. I got mine two days ago at the Canadian Tire just off of Kingston Road St. Clair. They had a whole display of the soft side ones for $12.99 and then above them they had a whole shelf of Plano soft side Guide ones which were around $30 or $40. I dont know if it was at all the stores or not, it sounds like it wasnt. If you're close to that store you can check it out, as I may go back tommorow and get a few more
  12. What kind of line are you using regularly?
  13. I have a nice 6 footer that I really like, but I was thinking of picking up a stiffer 7 footer with a fast tip for pike. Ugly sticks any good? Dont need anything great, already got a reel. A lot of people say baitcasters, but Im atrocious with one.
  14. As Im just getting back into the sport, I dont know if this is a good deal or nor, but Canadian Tire had Plano Soft Sided bags for $12.99, one of these ones
  15. Went to Le Baron today and the guy reccomened a Daiwa HL-SS862HFS Salmon Extra Heavy Spinning H 8’6” rod, $51. Havent opened it yet though
  16. When does salmon shore fishing end? Im also thinking about picking up a rig and trying my hand at it. Aside from the rod & reel, what do I need to have with me? Big shore net and waders?
  17. Ive got a Quantum Incyte IT20F that says it can handle 100 yards of 8lb test. Can I put a higher lb test on there, or can you not exceed that limit
  18. Im having trouble finding information on where I can fish on the Toronto Islands, could anyone help me out? Id like to go this weekend if I can.
  19. Btw, whereabouts do you guys get Fluke products? Couldnt find em at Le Baron
  20. Great responses guys, thank you. What do you usually use as your set-up with the Berkley Power worms? Texas rig? What size hooks should I get
  21. I used to fish quite a lot when i was a kid, but that was many years ago and Im just starting back up now. I got myself a nice little rod and reel, but I completely forget what I used to use for bass fishing. I know I used to use texas rigs a lot, never tried carolina or weightless. Is a few spinnerbaits and some stuff to make texas rigs all i really need for some bass fishing? Going to be hopefully going down to Toronto Islands next weekend to try out my new rod and hope to catch a few bass.
  22. The website for the Outdoors card provides very little information, could anyone please tell me where in the GTA I can go to get an Outdoors card and a fishing license tag?
  23. Does anyone know any good places to go for a days fishing around Toronto? I dont have a boat, so Id be shore fishing. Is there any fishing down by the toronto Islands?
  24. I used a baitcaster once and spent the next few hours trying to untangle it. Ive only ever really used spinning rods, so thats what Id be going for at the moment. As I was saying, I will be adding more in the future, I just wanted to get one that I could start back up with that would last me for a bit. The length on some of them confuses me a bit though - whats a 6 footer aimed at and whats a 6'6 aimed at. As I said, I will be primarily bass and pike fishing
  25. Im just starting back up, and its been so long since I bought a rod that I now have no idea what to get. Mostly pike and bass (large & small) in my lake. I'll add more rods eventually, but I would love some suggestions for a good one to start back up with, reel too.
