Did the package come with the roller trailer?

 

I can't recall ever having seen an aluminum boat on a roller trailer. I'd say convert it to bunks.

 

Is this a dealer you are buying off? Perhaps to get an upcharge of $300 for the trailer?

Yes the boat came on a roller trailer. I've actually seen number of Lund (and others) aluminum riveted boats on roller trailers. So not sure how it gets determined but I am sure I am not an exception. A marine shop has advised me on switching to bunks and quoted me on it.

Aside from everyone's personal preferences is there any factual evidence of roller trailers having negative effect on riveted aluminum boats?

I was advised to change my rollers with bunks and would like to research this issue a bit more before making a decision...Boat is 1700 Lund Pro Sport with riveted hull

Was quoted $300 for switching from rollers to bunks.

Nice Job on the fish and the boards Emile Mind if I ask what wood you used?. Im about to start on my own boards and my mast is 95% complete.

Used cedar for mine...came to about $14/board in cedar 1x8 board.

All together including all stinless steel hardware came to about $90 for both boards.

And the feeling of having made them myself - priceless

Not the best fishing day this season but wasn't surprised after reading all the reports from last few days...decided to try it anyways with a friend...

Mostly bows and some coho's today....just 4 shakers Kings...ended up 7 for 13....biggest fish was 8 Lbs bow...most fish on the dipsy...both fly and spoon got fish...only few hits on the riggers with spoons...searched for them everywhere...from 50 to 270 fow....very cold...down 40 was 41 -42 degrees.

Anyhow, buddy was happy...here is a shot of him, and few shots of my new planer mast and board (made the boards myself)....I was just testing them today, didn't fish with them....run and pulled very solid, quite happy with them :

I did....and there are several ...can't decide which ones I need...OR-14....OR-17...or even the super strong OR-30?

And are those things very expensive or what???!?

Better see if I can find some used one....not sure if I want to spent $200 on releases....waoooo...

Decided to finally get a planner mast setup for my boat...got the first part - the mast....need some help with choosing the best releases and planner boards...

Will be using them mostly on lake Erie for eyes and possibly on Lake O. for salmon trolling. Would appreciate any advice and where to get them? I guess good used ones are also an option?

Thought I should ask you guys as some of you may have one of those Minn Kota quick release brackets they no longer need so I can buy it from you.

Mine is an older style. Here are few shots of mine:

As you can see it does look somewhat different. The thumb screw is on the side on the new mdoel and at the top back on mine...

My idea is to buy a second plate (I only need the part that attaches to the trolling motor but may have to buy both plates and only use the top one)...and to mount my newly bought planner mast to it by drilling 4 holes and threading them. When I need the planner mast (3-4 times a year for trips to Erie for eyes), remove the trolling motor and slide in the planner mast. Hence I only need the top plate as the bottom one will remain in place where it is now. Problem is the newer model is not exactly same as my old one...it might still work with some modifications to it, but wanted to try and see if someone might have an older style plate they don't need any longer?

Well done man. We Hammered them the last night. Sd:fly's spoons they did not care. Highlight of the night was buying a guys parking ticket for 5 bones. Woo Hoo we saved 12 bucks. I forgot to give mine away this afternoon after our blue zone run. Trade those tickets out folks. Best way to get back at Oakville is to resell those tickets or just give em away.

I would have done it no problem, but there was no one willing to launch at 9pm ;-)

The stupid machine signed me up until 11:59 pm....what a waste of money...\

You idea is a good one...let's pass on those parking tickets...this is what the gready folks at Oakville town hall deserve.

After last few trips to Lake Erie I was missing Lake O. monsters, so invited my neighbour down the street and went for 3 hours of evening Lake O. fishing...started creasy....5 seconds after getting the first line in the water it started bouncing....got a nice brown to start the trip....shortly after my neighbour lost an acrobatic bow...then couple shakers....an hour of quite chat...followed by creasy last 30 min...he was very tired after fighting the big King of the day...just over 20 Lbs...got few more Cohos...and ended up 5 for 10...not bad...he was smile year to year...and I was even happier...30-40 feet dow mostly spoon bite couple hits on the fly...150-200 fow...

now not so happy having to pay $17 for just couple hors of fishing...someone very "smart" must have come with that stupid idea of charging $17 no matter of the time left in the day./...I even tried cancelling the transaction by pushing the "cancel" button many times to get my $7 -$8 back when I found out machine only accepts full $17 fee...no luck...couldn't cancel././..so had no chance to keep feeding it until it took all $17....what a day time robbery....Port Credit here I come for the rest of the season....

We launched at Burwell, but the spot was ....well in the middle of nowhere....about 17 miles run....well worth it though ;-)

Decided to try the famous lake Erie jumbo perch when the eyes were not cooperating today.

Double headers, mixed doubles, huge pigs....waooo...I do a lot of Lake Simcoe perching in the fall and some in winter but those Erie perch are something else. Now I kind of understand the locals obsession with perching vs. eyes or bows on Erie...42 fow, minnows were the most desired menu.

After such a busy day on the water someone mentioned the word "beach" on the way back...so we had to stop there for some water fun, followed by visits to the burger and ice cream shops....

All that made for a happy crew on the return trip home ha ha ha

Change of scenery today - decided to substitute Lake O. with Lake Erie - good call as we've had terrific day with the eyes and bows there.

Biggest eye – over 9 Lbs

Biggest bow – over 7 lbs

3 people - 5 rods (6 at times) 18 eyes and 6 bows in the cooler for about 4 hrs....

Lost about 7-8 more...

60'+ fow

30-40 feet down

spoons and worm harnesses

slow troll

riggers, dipsy and leadcore all did well but advantage to the leadcore

Only few sheep heads

Nothing better than great catching day with good friends

You know I am very busy these days but I can pencil you in say tomorrow between 6am and Noon for a thorough inspection.

Well, how did you know?

That I am doing inspection at that exact time frame tomorrow morning?

A bit windy but test will run better that way....and the weatherman will probably be wrong again.

Should have used that email of mine yesterday so I can include you in the inspection commission

Hey Rick,

my boat is in the range you are talking about...it weights 1260 kg (without disconnecting it from the truck) when weighted at the Hwy scale...so allow another 50 or so kg on top of that when fully disconnected and there is your number.

Well,

changed the spark plugs earlier today and tried it on the driveway with the hose connected....it run surprisingly smooth at idle....hope it stays that way next time I try it on the water. Will still dump a can of seafoam in the tank and run it WOT on next trip.

BTW I should mention both motors are fed via fuel filter/water separator ....the main one runs fine at idle and otherwise...

May have to use the kicker on lake O.to take me from the launch to fishing grounds next time I get to the lake....it should give it couple kms of hight RPM run to clear itself up....

Hope this does it as the alternatives would probably be costly and time consuming ....

Well Dan,

once in a blue moon I do push the full throttle button on the Trollmaster for a second or two to create a lure chase in the fish down there....but have run the boat on the kicker only once 3-4 years ago on Simcoe when I forgot the key for the main motor at home and had to use the kicker from Sibbalds PP to Jacksons point ;-)

Good points....will dump a can of seafoam and change the spark plugs as I already have new once ready to be installed....

the fuel tank is huge though (80 L or so) so it may take a while for the seafome to get to the kicker....

Well, while fishing today I’ve noticed my 2000 Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke High thrust kicker has hard time staying on while idling.have a good boat motor mechanic next door but he is too busy to even talk to me tried sending me around to his buddies but that will not work for me as they’ll want me to leave the boat there for who knows how long.and I need to use the boat weekly.so is there anyone who can advise/help on how to solve this problem or a reputable mechanic where I can take it to for in and out service? I am west of the GTA

May even be as simple as a screw that needs turning a bit to adjust the idling speed. Not an expert but motor is not that bad, trolled all day with it just that when I press the idle button on the Trollmaster so I can fight the bigger fish it sometimes dies .no problem restarting it again but it seems it wants to run with a bit more gas/higher RPM.never before I had this problem.

Anyhow hope I can do quick fix here with your expert advice.\

Another beauty day on the West end of Lake O.

The "usual" late start with the kids in tow...but by 7am lines were in the water....just to find it is a rather cold water at that....

and almost no hooks on the screen.....so I knew it'll be tough time trying to find the warmer water with hooks in it....got few large kings while searching for better temps....let them go as they were too big (18 and 19 Lbs)....covered lots of water and further West I went warmer it got....and the bite eventually started after 10am....off the lake by 12:30....score for the days 8 for 12....hits on dipsy (wire with fly, and braid with spoon) and on the riggers....only one hit on the leadcore....

wire was out 115' over 150, and braid 130 over 150....most of the day was between 100 and 160 fow but most hits were 140-150 fow....

some serious hits on both dipsys.....almost went in the drink with the wire dipsy ....

Mixed bag - Kings, Cohos and Bows....let most bigger Kings and bows go to get bigger....kept a few for the smoker....

Kids were happy even though they've had hard time fighting some of the bigger fish....had to work in team to manage ha ha ha

Well decided to try the afternoon bite for the first time this season.

Started at 3pm and finished by 6pm....

4 for 4

2 Kings (16 and 19 Lbs)

and two bows both under 10 Lbs.

2 of the fish were on spoons and for the first time got the other two on Atomic fly and flasher.

100-200' of water 55' down and 115' on the wire dipsy with the fly.

Temps were very high both surface (62) and down (46-47)

My younger son was with me and while I was trying to put the boat back on the trailer and he was chasing the Canada geese (of so I thought) he decided to go for a swim at the launch while chasing a wooden stick floating by the dock.

Oh well no problems just that he got a bit wet and rode home naked and covered with a blanket.

It was probably only 3' deep and he was still with his life jacket...so just a bit of excitement for the end of the day .

Couldn't pass on the nice day today.

So took the kids and started a bit late at 6:30 (too long of a break at Tim Hortons for Tim Bits).

It was expected the fish to be scattered all over after the last few days of strong winds....so wasted the first couple hours in search mode but once we found them....well everyone loved the action...

Pictures will give you an idea where the fish was hiding...

Every one managed to reel in a few...the star of the day was the huge King bellow....third fish for me over 25 Lbs this season...and it has just started...Mixed bag....Final score 12/15...not bad...
