  1. This is a pic of the latest Kingpin.

It is to be called the R2.

You will all recognize the style, as it as similar to the Gold Series Royalty/Regal reels that were so popular, hence the name R2.

This reel will be on the Imperial chasis, as it has proven itself to be a workhorse, and carries the same dimensions. Weight of the spool will be slightly less, but no figures available.

The reel will be available in a few weeks, and in all the colours.

Pricing has been set to $525, because of increased machining costs over the Imperial.

  2. Interesting debate on the use of dead Smelt. I went on a charter last Spring on the Niagara with a reputable guide and we scooped up dead smelt when they floated by, and stored them in the well for later use. I don't think he would jeopardize his business using prohibited bait....

  3. Yeah, we talked about training, but I couldn't explain it. Evasive manouvers training??? How to avoid a rapidly approaching canoe??? How to catch up to an electric powered boat???

I'm going to call Guelph OPP and share my displeasure and see what the Staff Sergeant has to say about it.

  4. We camped at Guelph Lake this weekend and had a great time. We were canoeing Saturday around 12:30 and the OPP boat passed us at a quick speed which really sent our canoe rocking in its wake. I was a little surprised, but no big deal. A few minutes later we saw the boat ripping around the same arm of the lake, away from us but in sight. The boat was going full out doing quick turns, tight circles, and wide sweeping turns. Guelph Lake does not allow power boats with a couple of exceptions one being the OPP. What is the point of this type of hotdogging??? We thought it was totally inappropriate.

I'm not a police basher or anything I did a stint as an auxilliary cop for several years but I was really disappointed with their boating, especially on a lake that bans powerboats.

    What do you guys think???

  5. Thanks for the feedback guys. The more I think about the more I doubt all the fish were Smallies. I think Spiel hit the nail on the head about the fish finder; I was fixated on all the fish symbols on the display instead of fishing the best looking water!!!

I'll figure that lake out yet :Gonefishing:

  6. It's possible they were not Bass, I've only fish it twice. We caught Bass among the marked fish schools.

    Perch, not that large

    Walleye nope

    Pike predators

    Carp ??? doubt it

  7. I was out twice this week, once in the evening and this afternoon, to a man made lake that holds some Bass. In the evening we marked close to 100 fish some of decent size. We caught one "trolling" in the canoe with a white big O, one on a drop shotted Senko, and a 3rd on a white on white jig/grub. All 3 were small Smallies.

Today we anchored again and marked even more roaming schools in 18 to 13 FOW. Caught one small one on a live leech. I once again threw just about all my junk at these fish and came up empty. I know these are the dog days and tough fishing, but what else might have worked? Is it worth targeting Smallies in late July???

    Thanks for any feedback.

  8. I guess it depends where you fish, but I have seen an increase in Steelheaders on the rivers over the last 10 years. The small lakes for Bass and Pike near me are always busy. I think the single biggest reason for the INCREASE is the internet. Guys can gain incredible info about lakes and rivers without doing any legwork of their own!!!

  9. I picked up a used portable fishfinder and I can't top up the battery charge. It still has power but I want to top it up if I can.

When I connect the the charger connections to the corresponding coloured mount, I get a red LED saying "SHORT/REVERSE" instead of "CHARGED", or "CHARGING". I tried reversing the connection and the same result.

Any ideas??? Do I have to completely drain the battery before I recharge it?

    Thanks for any help,

    Paul

    The battery is a 12volt 7Ah.
