  1. I have a fried who has the cabelas quick draws....they seem good and he hasn't had any problems...plus they come in a variety of mounting options and they are I think they are pretty inexpensive (70-90 usd for 4) as far as rod holders go if this isn't going to be your everyday thing and you don't want to sink a lot into a really good set. Down here in cleveland, we have been doing good on suspended fish trolling spinner rigs behind 1-2 oz in line weights behind in line boards. I think your rods will be fine for those smaller in line boards...hope that helps Don
  2. http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/community/s...ight=fishingful take a look at this thread in my "home forum" this is from an ohio lake where ther are no muskie, pike are not stocked, flathead, haven't been stocked in 15 yrs, and you can catch big crappie (no limit, size or bag) and "dink" walleye (no size 6 bag) til your ultralight wears out. Those are TROPHY fish in ohio, I've certainly never caught a pike that big down here (don't really target them), and you can bet your a** if those were musky that guy would have his tires slashed. Second worst thing is he made posts like that a couple days in a row (4.6.08-4.10.08) probably until his bay was barren of fish, but the WORST thing is ODNR HAS NO REGS ON PIKE WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to start a flame war here, heck, maybe my perspective is the%&*%%(% one, but my point is you'll never get rid of the idiots, but at least up here the government is on the sportsman side and is trying (maybe too hard! lol!) PS would like to get some other peoples reaction to that link
  3. Just found out grandpa has some property up there on the Trent-Severn (sp?) waterway....can't seem to find any info....would be curious to see if anyone knows the area
  4. I'm coming up from cleveland to the mattawa area tonight. Any ideas for ice fishing spots up there? How about a general ice report? Any lakes in the area with public access where I might have a chance at some walleye or perch? At least a weather report! I have a clam shanty so I don't need to rent a hut or anything like that but since we haven't had too much ice down here, I'm dying to get on some fish.
  5. I had the AA one from Cabelas last year and it sucked!...never saw a fish used it for 2mos in the spring and returned it. A lot of reservoirs down here in ohio are pretty murky and you could only see about 2 ft. I went out on a limb and bought an Aqua Vu ZT for $170 USD shipped off ebay. It's the older one with the 4" screen and the long plastic viewing shroud but it was brand new in box. Used it ice fishing down here and it worked great. The fish cam with the spectral lights is much better than the Cabelas one. Watched a bluegill sip in my ice jig after kissing the camera...COOLEST THING EVER!!!...out of curiosity...what kind of prices do you get...just trying to find out how bad I got ripped!
  6. Are there any places to get bait in town?...will anyone have minnows this time of year?...I will be up there on feb 14-17 and really want to get some perch or walleye but I don't know of any lakes to fish. My dad lives right on the river by Champlain park and I have fished over at lake Nosbonsing(?) in the summer and caught pike. Can you ice fish there?...are there walleye or perch? I live in Ohio so I won't be crowding your spots. Anyone that doesn't want to post can send me a pm. Off topic...I got out for the first time down here in the states....one 4" bluegill...coolest fish I've ever caught cuz it was the first time I saw a fish on my camera and saw it take the bait!....I'm hooked on ice fishing!!!
  7. Really I'm looking for a walleye / perch lake in the area. Obviously Nippising but that's pretty big water to tackle on our own not knowing the area. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. I'm a new member here and I registered to see if I could get a little info. My dad lives in Mattawa and I'm coming up from Ohio on the 14 to stay at his place which is right on the river. I can't wait to get some ice fishing in with my father in-law who is coming with me. I plan on fishing the mattawa a little bit but I usually only catch pike and bass there in the summer and am interested in walleye and perch. I will only have one solid day to make a trip to another fishing spot and I would appreciate if someone could give me some ideas in the area. I have a clam 5600 shelter but probably no motorized transportation other than my truck. Would be willing to trade some cheap american goods for some good fishing spots! Thanks in advance. Don
