  1. Hey its good to see the day wasn't wasted! And Darlin not sure if you forgot this little detail... I STILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET and I can make you sleep on the couch when I get home. Love you!! just joking good haul glad you guys had fun!! Now don't le thoes perch suffer the same fate as the last!

  2. Rich it must have been cold you did not have alot of food pics out there whats going on.

Lol we hit up McDs before we left and it was gone before we left the parking lot!! lol I think next time we take mark out we should make sure the ice doesn't crack every two seconds so he doesn't have another heart attack! and ps I stayed in the truck a good portion of the trip I'm a whimp lol

  3. If you have a mortgage it could be a problem, unless of course you live with mommy.

As Urban Fisherman said Rich doesn't live with mommy, although I'm his sons mommy I'm not his, he does work hard to put a roof over our heads and food in our mouths. I'm pretty sure what he was trying to say is that it is a giant change but he and I both know families that have gone through being laid off and have worked hard and adapted to keep food on the table.

People assume that if there is a giant lay off then people will just sit on their bum and collect EI which isn't the case, just going through for my parental leave I know there is a delay of months just to be able to qualify and then you have to jump through more hoops to finally get your pay. Also may I add that these people have contributed to their EI and are tax paying citizens. Not everyone can wait for the process to go through (people with families) so they will do what many have done before and grab the first job they see. But when one is laid off and has no other skills EI gives the option of being trained in another field so you can once again work in another industry, meaning you aren't going to have to support some able body person to sit on their butt when they can they will be doing it themselves. If you think about all the workers that would have to go through school, income assistant programs and other government assistance it may not total the amount of the bail out in the first year but over time it may come close to being equal. I have a friend whose mother and 62 year old father are officially laid off from their plant as of Christmas eve. Her father is too old to look for another job but still to young for CP retirement, with our fingers crossed they said they may give him and early retirement package.

Huge lay offs will effect everyone unless you are Jeremiah Johnson and live in the mountains and don't buy anything. If more government assistance is needed taxes will go up. Like in the 30s great depression when they invented the Manufactures Sales tax (now I'm pretty sure that its called gst) It was only a short time fix to help the economy get back on its feet but we still have it today now its just has a different name. Basically what I'm trying to say is taxes will go up therefore wages will go up to try and equal out the taxes and when the wages go up (if your Tim Hortons addicts you may have noticed) the price of everything else goes up to within almost 24 hours. to put it more plainly the more taxes people have to pay the more money people will have to make to pay them the more money people need to make the more they have to charge for the product, therefore its going to affect everyone.

As for the big 3, who wants to buy a cheaply made car for a few years and spend more money fixing it then they paid? Rich and I can't afford a car at the moment but even though gas has gone down it is just repeating the same pattern as before, the summer will come and the prices will go up. Us not having a car isn't a protest to buying Canadian cars but simply we know that with our income and expense buying a cheap car paying the fees, the gas, and the repairs would only make our situation harder in the long run so we are choosing to wait so we can afford a properly made car (local or foreign) that won't break down every other year. Now since we can't be the only ones that think this way that is undoubtedly part of whats happening. Honestly my opinion is let the big talkers that sit and shuffle the paper work take a pay cut with the workers cut down on the flashy pretty details and get back to making the car a reliable automobile that they should be, it doesn't have to look pretty just run good. I wouldn't buy a Dollar store rod made out of tooth picks and shiny paint because it looks better and is cheaper than an Uglystik, would you? If they shape up in the next few years get the reputation and sales back up maybe they might be able to reimburse the bail out. Who knows and this is just my opinion but lets not do childish things such as name calling and teasing if we don't share the same ideas, we are adults here.

  4. Most of people's "4 pounders" are 2 pounders. 4 pounds is a really decent fish, 6+ is a trophy.

As for fall, it can really be split into 2 sections. Early fall is when the bass are actually feeding heaviest. The water's still at a warm temperature and as it pushes lower to 60 - 65 the bass start filling their faces as much as possible. They do tend to move deeper but this isn't necessarily the rule. River/creek mouths can keep them in shallow and there are many roamers that simply follow the bait. If the bait is in shallow, they will be too.

Late fall is difficult. Water is frigid and the bass normally move very deep, and become sluggish. The water is lowered past their prime feeding temperature. Though they will still feed daily, it will be in a couple of short bursts throughout the day and the rest of the day will be spent trying to conserve the energy from that meal.

This being said, IMO lakes (down here anyway) are still in the late summer phase. Haven't seen a fall patterned bass yet .. but I don't fish smallies often either. I'm talking mostly largemouth.

Dang Sugarpacket staying logged in!!! This post was by Rich, lol

  5. She's not actually opening it she just need to make a business plan from like stock to stats to expected sales kind of thing and I guess each part they get graded and at the end of the year they get told whether the idea would have worked or failed type thing and get graded on that as well. I'm not sure really how it works I just agreed to help with her homework lol! not sure what I got myself into...

  6. My friend just finished her first week in business school and for her year end project (or all year I guess you could call it) she has to have a plan for her own business. I convinced her into doing a fishing store ( she wanted to do a antique store eck!) and I figured that the awesome anglers on this site wouldn't mind helping out. She has to gather statistics on all aspects of fishing in our community and in general to get her plan so if you don't mind just clicking your mouse you'll be helping her out and it would be interesting to see some of the results! If you don't want to you don't have to but only vote once it is just a class but the more realistic it is the better her mark is! Anyways thanks!

  7. This morning BBR and I headed out for some early fall bass fishing in one of our local lakes. First we took Splenda to grandma's house so he could be spoiled while we spoiled ourselves with so much needed bass action!

Before we left on our drive BBR said "Why don't we make a bet? Whoever catches the biggest bass wins and the other has to do the dishes" So I don't know if you have been following my Large mouth success rate but to sum it up in two words I suck! lol So I'm thinking well not much change I do the dishes normally not much to lose right? So I agree.

We arrive at our spot and launch the ol' filth hound which was full of water from the rain the night before, so we grab two discarded cups (thank you litter bugs!) and take out the water. Since we had loaded up the truck the night before so not to hassle ourselves in the morning all our gear was wet! Our life jackets plastics bag and tackle bag all soaked!(as if lifting that beast wasn't hard enough add about 10 or 20 pounds of wet gear!!) After we got the boat launched the motor mounted and the truck locked BBR turns to me and says "Wheres the camera?" We both look at his soaked tackle bag with horrified looks on our faces. I reached in and grabbed the camera it was full of water so i tried my hardest to dry it off but to no avail it's broken! Which of course ment the fishing would be awesome! It usually is when you don't have a camera am I right? Luckily we had our cell's so we still did but we weren't going to let the fish know!

We started out the trip fishing up shallow in heavy coverage using slow retrieval techniques with our senkos and spinnerbaits. We both got a couple bumps and BBR had a couple nibbles but nothing took the bait!(hahaha) So as I was adjusting my bait caster (aka. taking out the huge backlash, still getting use to the thing) my senko seemed to have gotten hung up on a log so I didn't worry about it I was just trying to fix my reel anyways and I had cast in a bad spot. When I finally got my line straight (hahaha) I started reeling in my senko (well reaming I should say) and BBR says "Uh you do realize your line is moving against the current right? You've got a fish on!!!!" Of course surprised intellectual words sprang from my mouth I dare not write down and I set the hook after a five second fight (it was right beside the boat when BBR spotted it) I pulled up my new personal best!! (doesn't take much! lol) Now BBR didn't pack the scale so I'm not sure how big it is I just know its the biggest I've caught!

After a few more uneventful hours of pounding that side of the shore line BBR and I decided to to give the other side of the lake a shot, still using the slow retrieval techniques. It wasn't until I had cast to a bad spot and was reeming in my spinnerbait when a small maybe 1 pounder smashed my bait! Unfortunately the spry little scoundrel eluded me but it clued BBR and I into what we had been doing long for the past 3-4 hours!!! The cold front must not have had that much of an impact from the past few day's storms since they were very active and didn't like the slow moving patterns so when the switch flipped we changed our presentation and retrieval, Still fishing the shallows since the water levels were high and the fish were following their food, but changing from natural colours to reaction strike brights (pink!!) and speeding up our retrieval. It wasn't long after that BBR pulled in his first bucketmouth of the day!

    4-2.jpg

Nothing big but showed that it has the genes to be big in a couple more years. Not long after that he hauled in another a little bigger but since we were using our cells we didn't want to waste our batteries so we only took a couple pic's all day! (sorry) By this time things were looking pretty good for me but it had been a long time since I hooked my biggie and I was growing impatient. I was contemplating picking up the book I brought when the thought was thrown from my mind I had just hooked my second bass of the day!!! (very rare) after pounding the shore for a little while longer BBR and I decided to try somewhere new.

After going to every gas bar we saw trying to buy corn/ locate this pond we heard about we finally found a store and the pond!! We noticed a dam that looked perfect for some wind down easy fishing and headed down. First cast BBR manages to pull out a nice sized perch. Now we had switched to our ultra lights and basic gear for this just to fish for fun normally we would bring Spenda but since hes just walking and I almost fell getting down there we're thinking maybe in a couple years. Within 10 or 15 mins BBR and I had pulled out perch, blue gill, a very tiny large mouth, bull heads, white suckers and this little feller (BBR's PB)

    3-1.jpg

It wan't long after that BBR then hooked up with the little guys momma(haha) and boy was that a fight. Compared to the bass we caught today that fight made me want to take some corn to my old carpin' spot. This fish darted up stream through branches around rocks it was intense!! we were using #10 hooks and 6 lb test so we were sure that every move she made that line would snap or the hook would bend but they didn't, he pulled her in and again no scale but a decent size for such a small creek and god what a fight had me on the edge of my seat!

    2-3.jpg

After that we decided we will have to try our new spot when the sun isn't setting to see what more it has to offer, since it was getting late and Splendas sugar high would be wearing off and he would need to get to bed. Now again BBR and I apologize for the lack of pictures and I apologize for the not so colourful report but its midnight and I'm tired so I guess I'll have to do one next time! So until then get off your computer and go fishing!!!!

  8. There was a a great fishing couple with there fishing prodigy son who wanted to fish in a far off land but had no way to get there. The great fisherman's old partner had refuse permission to let them come to his land to fish and would not carry them in his "Ram" cart to his ponds, so they had to find another way. They found an old map with a secret trail leading from there land to his but it was a long journey (13 km) So they woke up at the crack of dawn (well lets not kid anyone 10 am) and set out on there long journey. They crossed the path of the most unholy evil omens, the dreaded black cat... and to top it off it was dead. Even tho they knew this was hexing their trips bounty they pressed on and met up with two dark wizards from a far off land that blessed them with the sacred words " Ya mon Peace" Taking this sign as a blessing they made there way across the border into the forbidden land.

They discovered that the fisherman's partner had be put under an evil love spell by the ice witch so instead of trying to help him they went to complete a much more important task... Fishing. As they made their to the pond they ran into some slave smugglers who offered to take them to the forbidden land when they returned from helping the slaves escape, they exchanged numbers and went their seperate ways not wanting to attract unwanted attention. The trio finally made it to there destination to find out that the pond they were fishing was home to a rare fish that was hard to catch and would grant you one wish if you released it. They tried and they tried to catch this fish and it did not prevail they caught bluegill after bluegill after bluegill.

    DSC02103.jpg

With a glitter of hope in his eye the fishermen pulled up the fool bass (rock bass) this was not the fish that would grant him his wish so he threw it back and set out once more. The couples son had awaken and was reaady to try his hand but after a few cast his luck had not helped either. Hope was dwindling before the light had and they tried every technique they could think of ( almost every one in the sugarpacket tactic handbook) Eventually the winds changed in their favor and the fisherman spotted a 6 pounder but within a blink it was gone. They began to understand why the fish was so sought after and hoped that its magic was true, time was ticking. The fisherman tossed his beloved spinner bait and missed a small 1 pounder, luck was not on their side that day. They decieded they would fool the wish fish by pretending not toe fish for them but to fish for the blundering bluegill instead, they tossed a spinner and a super duper and jigged and jigged. After another 100 bluegill were caught the fisherman brought up the smallest wish fish he had ever seen! Surely if he made his wish this small fish could not grant it?! So he closed his eyes made his wish and tossed the fish back into the river.

    DSC02101.jpg

Not long after the fisherwoman brought up another small wish fish (slightly bigger than the mans but who's keeping score?) and made her wish too. She tossed the lucky fish back in to the water from whenced it came.

    DSC02104.jpg

As they made their way back to the trail they had taken their magic ball/phone sent them a message of a ride coming to take them to their land. The fisherwoman turned to the fisherman and exclaimed her wish had been granted! On their journey a rock had injured her foot and made walking painful torture. Then the magic ball had revealed a second message their ride would be bring a picnic dinner for them to enjoy before going back to their land. The fisherman lit up with excitement, his wish had been answered too! FOOD! Now the couple was not selfish they knew that their small fish could not grant the wish of freeing their partner from the spell so why waste a good fish? The day went on and they did not catch another wish fish nor any other kind of fish for that matter so they returned home with full bellies.

    THE END

  9. I'm sure had you said something "jeff" wouldn't listen and not care, but if you got his address call the MNR and have them do a freezer search his attitude will change about his family limit since my guess is he has more than that in there. Also I would just release my fish if I was at my limit I'd rather not fish out a lake and fill my bucket if not called for.

  10. BBR and I were sitting here fumin since we just had someone post a poaching report on our board good read tho!! Maybe if you fished as much as you write you would catch something big!! lol just kidding!! hope you can post that again with it being the actual thing!!!
