  1. Here is a link to the phone I use and never need to worry about it getting wet or droping it.

Check out the website. I have abused (I meant owned) this phone for 6 months and it is rugged.

    http://www.sonimtech.ca/products/xp5520bolt.php

It is made by Sonim and offered by Bell. Rogers also carries a different phone by Sonim.

I know it doesn't have all the fancy apps of I phone or crackberry, but if you play or work in rugged conditions.....nothing beats it.

By the way... I am in no way affiliated with Sonim, just love the product

  2. I've had a Lund Pro Guide 16 with an 80 horse Yami for 11 years. Great boat with an awsome layout.

The torque on the motor isn't nearly as much as one would think. On plane, i can easily stear with two fingers. Power trim is a must.

I have a trim button on the floor that is very easy to operate.

    Good luck on your search

  3. There are alot of problems with the bill this guy got.

And Rich is right. Who is the authority that called the ice unsafe. All ice is unsafe. Roads are unsafe, schools are unsafe. Safety is a matter of judgement. Judgements based on past history, experience, research and how prepared you are to deal with an emergency.

If this guy is forced to pay the bill, what recreational activity will be next?

  4. you guys remeber the retired school principal who fell through the ice after being disoriented on Lake Scugog.

Here's what he gets to deal with now.

    http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2013/01/30/stranded_scugog_ice_fisherman_first_to_be_charged_for_fire_department_rescue_539278.html

We can all say what we want about people making poor decissions about unsafe ice conditions. We all have our own level of safety based on our own experiences or observations.

I for one don't think a user fee for 911 services is right. The man's life was in peril. Regardless of how he got there, there was a need for it.

Could the same argument not be made for hundreds of other leisure activities that incorperate some level of risk. From skiing to hiking, swimming or snowmobiles. All of these activities are an unnecessary part of life that incorperate danger.

Will these activities be next on the list for user fees.

  5. How about several strands of fiberglass insulation to simulate tiny water fleas.

Could wrap them around your favourite downrigging outfit and show the kids how hard it is to real up a big Lake O Chinny.

    or

Glue several layers of small pebbles on the inside of a 4" abs pipe.

Could simulate the effect zebra muscles have on our industrial and drinking water intake pipes.

  6. You've been a member for 2 months and have 20 comments. I'm pretty sure we want an active community, which often hinges on folks who have differing opinions. So personally, I welcome views that differ from mine, because it gives me the chance to reestablish or reconsider why I think or act a certain way.

Insulting others isn't a great way to start off participating in this forum. Oh, and it's "site".

    Guess I've been told.

I will also ensure my gramar is correct. At least until I have 500 posts.

Did not mean to offend anyone.

My comment could have been worded differently and simply meant that if we argue the merits of fish having feelings but we continue to pursue them with sharp hooks for our selfish pleasure.........aren't we being a bit of a hypocrite.

  7. Ok, I have seen a lot of videos of people ice fishing, or fishing in general, on this site and off.

My question is how many people kill their fish when they determine that its a keeper, or do you just throw it aside and let it flop around until it slowly dies.

I always have my "fish striker" attached to my tackle bag and once I catch a fish that is a keeper, I give the fish a solid blow to the head to end the misery.

I cant stand watching videos on youtube when people are filleting a fish live, its just not humane.

    Your thoughts?

Sorry but there may be room on P3TA's sight for comments like this

  8. Me and the Mrs. are going Saturday.

We want to check out deals on either the Lund Impact 1875 or Crestliner Raptor 1850

Don't want to start a debate on welded vs rivets but I am interested in peoples opinion on various marinas located in Southwestern ON.

I'm located in Kitchener and would prefer to buy from a dealer within a 2 hour radius.

PM's are welcome so as not to advertise or bash any particular dealer.

    Thanks, Chris

  9. Their was 3 of us, we help each other pull our huts up the hill. we had 2 flip overs and 1 sled. I backed my truck over to the hill to load. I was parked across the street at the soccer field, Dark blue Ford FX4 Crew with a cap. You may have talked to my buddy that got to the hill before us, we were lagging behind him. Was glad to get back to the truck, tied out. Slept good that night. We take FRS radios and I go scouting for the fish, call the guys when I find them. I guess we should have said Hi, next time. May see you guys there again.

Yep That was you guys. I drive a grey Jeep, had a trailer with the old Yamaha quad. Will definitly chat next time I see ya. :good:

  10. After a debate with myself, I decided to go to Port Bolster instead of VB on Saturday. Was I ever glad we did.

Trailered the quad up to the lake but after a quick check of the conditions decided not to use it and walk to our destination instead. As others have reported, the ice was very jagged and somewhat inconsistent in the different areas we hit.

By 11:30 we had moved four times with only 2 keepers to show for our efforts. Marking very few on the vex it was time to make a decission. Do we move one more time or put our tail between our legs and pack it in.

Since it was too early to go home I decided we should make one more big move and see if we could find some fish.

I set up the clam so my son could fish in comfort (this ussually means taking a nap if the fish are not coperating). Drilled about 10 more holes in the area and began systematilcally checking each one out. after about 15 minutes I hear a comotion from the hut and my son yelling "Dad there hear". When I get inside the hut he had iced a good one and looking down the hole in 24 feet of water I see a big group of perch with a couple of hearing. For the next 3 hours we had non stop action, sightfishing trying to get our baits infront of the larger perch.

He continued using minnows while I used artificials. The bigger ones were definitly more interested in the minnow, but I was able to fish them faster with lures so in the end we probly got about the same number of keepers.

By 3 oclock we had a 5 gallon pail of 10" and bigger perch.

Great day on the ice with my son as always.

Hey Fishfarmer. Was that you and another guy coming off the ice around 4 oclock. Two guys pulling single man flip overs? If so i was the guy pulling a two man clam up the hill. Should of said "Hi". Next time.

  11. I've been watching this thread with great interest since it was started as I also made a commitment to make 2013 the year I quit.

Like most who have been succesful, I no longer "enjoyed" smoking. Being tied to the lung dart was having it's effects on me and it was time to break the habit. 25 year pack a day smoker.

Now into day 4 without a cig and I feel great!!!!!!!!

Found this neat little app that i put on my desktop at work as a reminder of how much I smoked, how much it cost me and how many days I am smoke free. Here's the URL if interested http://www.silkquit....quit-meter.aspx

Sure is going to be easier to justify a new Lund this spring :clapping: :clapping:

Three days, 8 hours, 11 minutes and 45 seconds. 100 cigarettes not smoked, saving $46.11. Life saved: 8 hours, 20 minutes.

Good luck to all of us who are in the same boat and never forget that you are one smoke away from a pack a day.

    Chris

  12. My choice would be go early. You may run a higher risk of a washed out river but there should be fewer people around.

And if this spring is like so many others, the best you can hope for at the end of April are tired old dropbacks.

PS. The fewer people that realize there are stealhead opportunities before the end of April opener the better :thumbsup_anim:

  13. Can't say enough good things about my Bradley smoker.

Ease of use, put the pucks in and let it do it's thing. I know there not the cheapest but I have mine for 15 years, use it about 10 times a year and still no signs of wearing out.

Over 15 years works out to about $15 bucks a year plus the cost of your wood pucks. Not bad for what you get

There website is full of recipees and helpful tips on smoking

  14. Also prefer a small blade for the job. The one I use is a foldng knife with a second blade that has a gut hook. I am a big fan of the gut hook since I started using them about 10 years ago.

As with most quality pieces of equipment, you get what you pay for. A quality knife will keep it's edge longer and properly taken care of can last you a lifetime.
