  1. Going to be staying at a Cottage in Moon River Bay - October Long Weekend. I plan on trying for Musky, as I understand this is a good area for them? (At this point, I will settle for anything...been a bad year for catching decent size fish...at least for me).

I have a map chip, and will be hunting around for spots (all part of the fun). Anyone willing to share their experiences with this area (tips - not honey holes.... :thumbsup_anim: ).

One thing I have heard is that the area can be treacherous for navigation. Also not sure on Moon River itself - if I can navigate it safely, etc.

Anyway, hope to have a report that I can share on what I find.

You should PM ADDY79. The Moon River is his fav spot. He is a good guy and will likely help you out.

SSHHHHHH! Don't jinx it! I have tickets for the Boston game on Saturday. I can't wait to go to a game and actually be proud of this team. Its been so long.

  3. Big fat fish, well done !!

I was in that exact spot 13 days ago but that large girl just didn't want to come out and play that day

Thanks Lew. Its a great spot indeed. There were a lot of musky's boated in that area. The second and third pictures were taken from John Bondy's boat. He had Gord Pyzer in his boat for the day and they had said they were 6 for 8. We also saw a few other boats bring in fish in the same spot. My bad for telling Bob I wanted to troll. Instead we should have focused our efforts at this spot the whole day instead of just the last hour or so.

  4. Addy79 and I were out on St.Clair yesterday with Bob Devine. We had a tough day trolling so Bob had us switch to Jigging with some great success!

The fish was approx 48 inches but could have been 49" if we did a proper measurement. As you can see it was a pretty fat fish for a 48. We had two other hook ups but lost both fish to "angler error". It was our first time jigging musky so......

I would highly recommend Bob to anyone looking to get out on St. Clair for the first time. He is an excellent guide and just a great person. Google him if you would like contact info. Highly recommended.

  5. It can work in reverse though too Craig.

If you catch a monster fish and accidentely hold it too close to your body you can actually make your 6 foot long, 50 pound fish appear to be small :sarcasm:

I always seem to make this mistake

  6. i can't get believers to swim anywhere near the speed I want to be going so I use them only in the fall when I slow things down. They have a great side to side wobble but for big speed I have to go with the storm baits, much more of a tight wiggle. Super shadraps are pretty good too for speed but they are smaller and still can't keep up with Storm when the boat is up on plane and people are laughing and pointing

I use the 10' jointed on the deep ring, rod tip has to be up. Sometimes they do surface but I just give them a few jerks to get them down again. I am going by the spd on my GPS so it may not be 100% accurate.

  7. Thanks guys, very good advise much appreciated..I am busy going through all the info I can get will up some of my tackle too..just in case.. handled some good size pike before, but this sounds different, and I don't want to get hooked by a musky lure. I'd be a little shocked if I hook a good size fish my first time out....Suggestions for rod and line: I was thinking 50lb test braid and Heavy action rod. I already have 50lb fluro leader used for pike..I have a good set of pliers and cutters.

Don't take the comments too harshly. These guys are just looking out for both you and the fish. Once you get the musky bug you will understand where these guys are coming from.

As for your tackle, a heavy action bass rod will only be able to handle the smallest of musky lures. Most musky lures are too heavy and displace too much water for a bass rod to handle. I would suggest you go grab a musky stick. Bass pro has a musky rod series that is cheap but would work well as a beginner rod. I would suggest a 7 foot long extra heavy action rod.

50lb braid is also a little light for throwing musky baits. If 50lb gets even minor nicks in it from rocks, etc, it is very susceptible to breaking off when using heavy musky baits. I would go 80lb/100lb or 65lb as a bare min.

Get an extra large net. When handling the fish, keep them in the net, in the water at all times, with the exception of a quick photo op. The last thing you want it a trashing musky on the floor of your boat.

As others have said, you should grab a good pair of bolt cutters to cut hooks if the fish takes them too deep.

Pigeon is a great musky lake. There are skis almost everywhere. The main patterns I have seen on pigeon are:

    1) Fish roaming the weed flats in the south end of the lake

    2) Fish hanging off the windblown side of shoals and reefs in the north end of the lake

    3) Suspended fish in the main basin of the lake.

Good luck! Take some pictures and post a report!
