  1. Excuse Bud.......'lil slow getting around to ya..

Awesome report as always...and the Boids.....

They are one of the most magnificent things in flight without a motor for sure..

Havent seem any in Ontaio yet but when we were in Jasper the year befor last they were plentiful..and what a sight.

I think I may have poste d a pic from way back then but I know I did get a pic of one of them in flight picking a Jackfish outta the water ..dropping it..then milisec's..getting it again very successfully....the jack..PIKE...was most likely about 14-16" lenght but quite the site just the same.

    WTG and aw4esome report Bud........

  2. Congrats to all on this adventure fore sure....

WTG with the 2-50'rs of late too.

Got to tell ya this brought me back a little...

A few years back there was a post here that told of NO Kawartha lunge over or even approaching 50"

My oldest son's first trip out lunging..and it was on on Pigeon...

Netted the boat my FIRST 50" fish....and it had serious girth as well.

    WTG Meely....and company.

  3. Hey Glen....

just finished watching Roland Martin w/ Walt fishing Lake Martin, Alabama..

Good 'Ole Rolly was teaching us all about drop fishing...(Drop Shotting it was)

    Anyhoo,

Awesome looking country thar Bud....awesome SON....

Sorry about the SON....it was Roland tho...'Gotta love it SON"

  4. My fishing buddy has been at it all his life (60 years plus) and he uses nothing but the original grey floating Rapalas in a few smaller sizes. He uses them wherever he's fishing, whatever he's fishing for. If they let him down his goto is real worms. He gets a big kick out of all the crap I haul around. His Raps work fine in our local river on bass and pike, for whatever he catches down in the Everglades from his kayak, and for the bass and pike he catches up near Calabogie. He's caught steelhead and other river trout/salmon types on them too.

About the only thing I've tried that actually caught his attention were the plastic worms that often work when his Raps let him down. He likes the idea of keeping worms forever in his little tackle bag.

I'm convinced from watching him that presentation is everything. What's tied on the end of the line is irrelevant, as long as there's a sharp hook involved. Danged if I can get the principle to work for me though.

xcuse my spelling but cant find my eyes...glasses..

Strained them enough to read what you wroyr however....

I can certainly understande both you and your buddies ideas of lure selection...

    Frustrating...interesting....unique..

if it works...go with it John.

  5. Thanks folks...

Glen,...the...Both baterries are brand new with 160min reserve and clean as a wjistle Bud....

so's all the wiring...but thanks....it is also dry.

Gerritt...Im going to checj that site shortly..and

    Cliff...2 things Bud...

#1.....Ill check for the green wire....sheesh...does carol do everytjing man...j/k

    #2...drop me a PM...I need your e-mail......

  6. n2fish...xcuse my spelling if out because no glasses to be found .

...but I just had to drop in on this post cuz perhaps somilar probs..

wired up my new sonar and havent seen an arch yet...

    Ive caught fish....

    Yje depth is correct...

    So's the temp....the MPH etc.....

    I can see hard/soft bottom...

The only distinguishable mark ....what I fihure to be fish is..

..is relatively lighter colour blue depending on the closeness and the size of the fish....football shaped most of the time.

You can also deyect the colour diff on the bottom if in weeds or amongst rocks or not

Still no arches here either and Ive experimented with the transducer....

Currently it points directly back from the boat on the bottom of the transom....probly about 2" clearance

    Good Q bud!

    Looking for answers as well...

    Thanks for posting this.

  7. For them that knows.....hopefully....

    ...where are ya Watne?

Was out on a run with Charmaine and the youngest and all was fine...

We were under power by the trolling motor only and why not..it was a glass water day, sunnyNhot...bad fishing weather for the most part.

My trolling motoe just upNQuit on me...???????????

No Prob's....fired up the big guy...the kicker at the moment is on the tinny...

Well, this morning I had I closer look at it...

    Checked the battery V....read 12.3.

Plugged in the onboard charger for an hour..(24v)

Checked the V...it read 13.4V.....good enuff to start.

Went out for a lil fishing and lowered on the T-motor...

The head of the motor responds to the pedal but the %$&^..Prop doesnt turn...?????

    Any Ideas out there..????

Love to hear some good news for once.....

    Tjanks,

    pete

  8. IMO a proper musky cradle would eliminate any of that thrashing and allow for a faster release

No Offence but a Cradle will deffinitely not stop the thrashing of a large fish or help with the release.

A basket style net is the only way to go......

Save the cradles for the trout......

The basket style net allows you/one to keep the large esox in the water feeling secure somewhat whilst allowing the angler to remove all hooks or not depending on the severity..

once removed you have the option for a quick photo or to just safely release the beast..as most avid esox anglers do without photo.

Raf...great vid Bud....cant emphasize the proper release equip enuff...seems most folks max out on the rod/reel/lure and forget all else...Doh!

  9. Milkwarm run...?????????....Tell me about it!

    Will,

    2 casts. 2 lunge?????????

    Wasn't Balsam was it?

That day is still re-playing through my skull.......\

I'd never seen so many large fish so close and not catch one....

    You did, about 3-4 I'm thinking.....dANG ...Well,...Will,

I picked myself up some of them BullDawgs...'speciallly the coloured ones you used and have yet to try them but I will......Next time we get out .

Truly happy you got the Prop situation worked out......Exellent.

Nice report and thnx for the pics.

  12. Bud,

I got as far as your first pic of you an the smallie......(dial-up)...it wouldnt let me have no more..

Man......Just from reading that report I knew it would be great........seriously wished I could see all them pics.

They expect full-speed internet out our way come the fall....Going to bookmark this report as well as a few others for viewing later.

    Thanks TJ...

    -pete

  13. JoeyNpaul,

I could only get as far as Roy's blurred pic ..(computers in our area)

.....but the report spoke volumes and I imagined the pics as if I had them......thanks for that..

Really wished Charmaine an I could get back up there this year......serious.

Not sure about next year either...but going to make Picton in November.

Let Paul know that there is some years gone by I'd like to jam with him about....

    Thanks and again......exellent report.

  14. hey GlenK,

I recieved the same unit as you have for a father's day gift and then purchased the Navionics Gold.

It works very well for all my fishing haunts except,

Just messin' around, I too went to Mapdata and clicked on Maritimes to my home town just south of Halifax and there was no data to be found just the map enlarged.

As I was zooming out I did notice the fine 'RED OUTLINES" that show covered areas.....

seems not all of the maritimes is covered nor all of the great-lakes....

Could be the same withthe Montreal area you are looking for......

I'll look for the Montreal area later today when/if I get down to the boat....and let you know how I made out.

  15. I haven't caught a thing on bulldawgs either....whats the deal with them anyways??

    Sinker

I can attest to the bulldawgs for sure!!!!

FishNsled and I fished Balsam last fall and I threw every lure imaginable...started with my goto's, Large In-Lines and changed up to Sledges and then Suicks. FishNsled used the same Orange tailed Bulldawg all day long and boated the only lunge. Cant remember but I believe he caught 4-5 that day.

I never owned a buldawg before but over the winter stocked up on a few....2 in Orange, 1 in charteuse and one Blk/orange..Cant wait til we get back up to Balsam this fall Will.

  16. Yes the boat was trailered in the yard...I have been working hard on the addition to my shop/office and havent had much fishing time.

and I dont normally dock at my launch..(its for my tinny mostly)..not the big boat.

Takes too long to get down to the BOQ thru the locks...much quicker to drive it down.

The tinny is handy if I want to go out for an hour or so....waiting for the wifey to cook dinner or first thing in the morning before work.

Fellas, the Navionics chip is well worth the $$$$

my only beef is that I now wish I purchased the Platinum instead of the gold chip...

'supose its always the way with everything tho.....

  17. G,

you dont get the free chip when you buy the unit.....

You get the free chip after you purchase the Navionics chip.

    Readitnweep fellas!

I bought the Navionics 'Gold' chip.....when I bought my 522iGPS

    \

    ...shows BayOfQuinte (what I wanted)

    ..ALL of the GreatLakes,

    ...ALL of the Kawarthas....STUNNING!

    LakeoftheWoods,

    OttawaNSt.Lawrence Rivers,

    LakeStClair, Simcoe, Scugog,

    GeorgianBay,

    Niagra

all G-L Tribs and the Maritimes...also

the complete Trent-Severn Waterway......Heck, I was reading the shore line and surrounding waters of my backyard..whilst sitting in the boat/trailered in my yard.......its awesome!..Im on the Trent between locks 6-7

    (297' waterfront)

...with this purchase I also recieved Free.......

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR FREE..............You also get the chip that shows the high deff of the shore line and surrounding lands to water bottom contours...(in 3-d).

I was happy enough with the gold chip alone...the free contour chip was a bonus and an exellent one to boot.

I purchase most everything .what I need for fishing from (spam) Gagnon's in Oshawa,

Its a hourNhalf drive West for me but they do me well and have done over the years.....(35+yrs)

I looked over my receipts from them these past few purchases and I recieve 10% off everything and in brackets on the reciept it says..."Preferred Customer"

Not only that but,....they price match first...then I get the additional 10% off.

    TRY N BEAT THAT ANYWHERE.

  18. Interesting,

I use the uni-knot just about all the time and the uni-uni for attaching two lines, (leader/main).

Recently I have just noticed this and found that I use the palomar only for tying swivels.

I cant figure out why you think it is a difficult knot at all.....I suppose that if anyone has spent time on the rivers chasing steelies they know the amount of times you have to re-tie and it becomes second nature....For the most part i cant see squat without my glasses but can tie knots with ease.

I find it a very strong knot and for throwing $25-45 baits I like to make sure, (rarely use a snap.)

Sure curious as to the rest of the responses.

    Good thread Clampit.

  19. Nice Fish. I leave Friday Morning cant wait!!!!!!! I'll use strategy I always use. Do my milk run once with bulging bucktail. Second time with topwater. Third time with Sledge. See if anything shows itself and comeback to those spots more frequently and cautiously.

Ive never trolled a sledge before.....

Please explain...only have casted and WTD or variations of it.

    Your milk run..????

you actually trolling or is it a locale you park/drift and cast to??

    Just curious?????

Hhey docT.......nice serious looking lunge bud!.......Id be very anxious myself to get back up to GB for some of that.

    Best of luck to you.

  20. I had a similar issue this spring.

my boat was filling up quite a bit.

I was in a panic, I had never worked with livewells before so I thought it was one of those.

What I did was just take the boat home, put it in the drive way and fill it up with the garden hose.

Guess what it was.... Stupid me replaced the fishfinder, the old transducer had 3 holes, the new one only has 2 holes, some dumbass(me) forgot to silicone the old holes and the new holes... I couldn't believe the water the boat was taking on for just a little hole...

    LOL,

Wendal, I have just tonight finished hooking up my new sonar unit and when I went to locate a placement for the transducer found thewre was 4 previous installations that were never siliconed/sealed.....could have added to my situation too...

I just got in minutes ago from sealing these off as well..

I also gave the complete hull a TWICE OVER to check for anything else as well.....DANG!
