  1. Paul..   Just doing a little catch up browsing and its so good to hear old time Pickering & O.F.Nrs  folk still around and better- Doing well!

All the best to you & Jo this New Year from Charmaine and I in NewGlasgow,, NovaScotia..

Good luck with the new machine out on the ice and the coming soft water season..

  2. catmanjake,

Not familiar with Cliff Falls at all but you are so close to so many other PRIME musky waters where your thinking of heading...LOTW, Pickle,Sous=Lookout

Its endless...Pretty much wherever you are in Northwest Ontario will be great muskellunge fishing..

I suggest taking a look through the search engine on this website or the e-magazine also offered by this website for all your musky fishing in NW-Ontario.

  3. Hey Doc,

like most the others have said...voltage regulator but first...

wiggle some wires...it actualy works and when you find one that does the trick..take it apart and clean it up/connections too..

Most of the time I found it to just be spark tho.....They sit for so long oper the non-snow months and water=rust

  4. Im siding with Terry on this one...

There are times you must be at places for what ever reason and mistaken identity or just a ..:Wonder who this is"..is all it takes for a take down..

Easy enough to say dont be in these places but what if youve got to pick up a worker youve never driven before or drop a worker off...or a different locale for a difficult to locate building material.

....Been there, done that and have had the guns pulled and my head against the curb under some cops foot..(RC's) actually.(thought I was a firearms dealer).

I have several freinds who are cops as well firemen..and soldiers in our proud services and Ive been told never ever report a cop or you be dogged for ever...

These are good men I know and fish with in our annual derby, I trust them and wouldnt hesitate to call any of them, even on a cop and that is the advice they give.

If this indeed was a overly excited quick on the draw cop...Id stay right away from reporting him, more importantly never going near that location again.

Some folks just never see the bad for thinking of the good.

Thats just the way I feel...I'll not say sorry but I am sorry that so many bad cops find their way through the weeding out process.

Again..I beleive that most cops are good and will blindly trust with one eye open.

  5. Peter, that was the Log Drivers' Waltz.

WOW...Roy, thanks so much for that,,,the song had been going through my head ever since I typed the post...Thank you kindly my good man, thank you I have bookmarked that classic.

  6. lemmee see if I can dif out this pic. There was a hobby farm of peacocks not far from here and for the longest time this outcast turkey used to frequent our dock for about a week a year and it was a crossbred Turkey/peacock....all the others birds wouldnt play with him at all....kinda like rudolph..lol

  7. They know when hunting season is... :canadian:

you know it, there have been days when getting out of the driveway has been difficult with toms the size of well fed porkers.....stubborn and almost daring you to run them over.

But come the season they are scarce..lol..they really are...I know a spot tho and...

  8. ...well on the way with games in Washington then Pitts, followed by Philly , wrapping up with PriceN montreal on HNIC....

Wonder what the pro-line is on those games...lol

Leafs generally play well against these teams year after year after generation after generation but with this team...Ya stil dont know, I wish them well.

  9. I strained the left side of my leg at work in 04 and by the next morning found that when sitting down for any period of time that standing was then difficult. This progressed to where it became lot a lot of what I have read here, A couple of hours in the AM before able to even stand let alone walk, hanging onto a counter with both hands waiting for the coffee to brew.

Do'c figured physio was the way acompanied by T^-3s when req'd....After a year or so it worsened They now figured Sciatica and i started accupuncture with Triggerpoint injections, then came the Steroid Injections, Marcaine Injections, Nerve Blocks deep and local.....the blocks helped relieve the pain for maybe days only...T-3s turned to perk's..

Fast Forward Nov-2010 (5 1/2 yrs later) and 4-5 MRI's they now believe it to be Spinal Canal Stenosis or Neurological claudication.....I get seen again next week to learn the treatment program. The pain starts in the hip and lower back causing 2-hand grabbing pain down the back of the left leg thigh and calve and swelling of the feet til your shoes dont fit, extreme fatigue and weakness and litterrally hours after waking before even attempting to get out to the truck to drive anywhere.

Eric, I can only imagine what you go through with this annoying item wether it to be Sciatica or another but to be coupled with MS is so completely unfair....

I hope you find relief shortly pal...

    -Peter

  10. Bear,

Thanks for the input, could quite well be incentive for metro T.O and Kawarthas but with the assistance of the the ORWL and the likes of Sheldon Hatch we have just put together our first executive for the QRWL (QuinteRegionWalleyeLeague), so the BayOfQuinte and area is not just covered but represented in great numbers.

For those interested check out the quinte web-site for more info, you know where to look.(SEE: BigGene)

    brickNblock

    - not an executive-Just a resident and walleye fisherman of Quinte.

  11. Great day Terry, you guys sure did a number on Quinte...amazing!

I wasnt sure of Loyd's boat-name markings but knew you would be out sometime this weekend

We saw you just before our last troll,(We had an early day planned)... you folk were heading N/E towards Thompson's about 1/4 mile out and we were W/S/W, bound toward the cement plant in the black lund about 1;30 or so....you know what its like when the lines are out...Ya keep going!

My son and I went 4/6, and took home 3 for the pan.

Sure looks like the big girls are in....

WTG on a successful day Terry.

edit: Real nice pic of the Tybo's new boat, love the mast too!

edit 2: I had on the old OFC yeller jacket, its s till in good shape lol.

  12. Jeff, hows it going Bud.

Your starting a little project for the little one eh....approx 1'x2'x1'.

You havent said so far wether you've the tools yet...???? hand tools I mean..lol....lets assume you do OK.

You also got a good head start by knowing what your building, the size and close to what material..You will pay easily double more than buying but it most likely will last x10 and will come to mean more to your daughter...not to mention the wife...who may just have you start to build an onslaught of things thereafter...lol-something to think about...vs fishing time????

JEDIANGLER SAID IT BEST...stay right away from the pine, been there done that and thats with near 12 coats of urethane/varathane....

You are close to TROY MILLS just outside of Orono..give them a call. Its been a while but a nice experience for all involved. You tour their yard and pick your own milled to thickness wood and it cost much less than any supplier. (I loved working with the cherry or apple).

Dowels...if not a lathe buy from any rtetailer to diameter preferred and away you go...It'll cost you much the same when complete as one twice the size beleive it or not aside from the bedding but why stop there...get the wife to make the bedding/mattress and then its a family affair.

Troy mill(s) used to have a store up front where they showed off items homemade as your project and you may get a few ideas there..

    -Pete

edit: maybe you can pick up a full size crib or something from something like the salvation army and sand down/stain, coat,.. that dowling (perhaps ornamental) and cut it to fit your mini size project??/

  13. Thank-You for everyone's input..

..it is much appreciated as I have no idea about these things only buildings and how they are built.

The appraiser just left the scene after only 15min of inspection and agreed it may be a right-off but said they will do all they can to see if it can be repaired first. I explained to him the newness of several items incl. the engine and he basically informed me that to make sure he receieves the receipts for these itmes , dated and will take them under consideration whern he makes his report. He also noted the newness of several items as they jump out in your face new and made notes ,(apparently) about those.

I have these receipts and will do so...heck, they total close to $6G, maybe a litle more.

Brand new interstate battery I coulda bought for the boat instaead...dang!(maybe 30days old)

I'll do as asked but will not take any crap from them...

I wonder, worse comes to worse, can I remove items from the truck as in new items required? I am not speaking of the motor unless it comes down to that!

  14. 20+..I'd call that a fairly successful day.

Always found the pike bitebest around the noon hour for 2 hrs...varying either side of the noon hour.(spring & fall)

EXELLENT notion and intuition to take it to the next level by re-thinking the situation however...exellent.

Glad it worked for you, its great when tinkering a little works, thats the real success of the day.

  15. (6:10pm last night)

..we were just saying good-byes to the son-in-laws brother and his family, (2 kids, 18mos & 4yrs. in the back seat baby chairs)..as they turned their vehicle southbound an proceeded away, waving, a '99 4-D chrysler sedan came from the north at great speeds and noisy as heck. We watched in dis-beleief as this vehicle then drove off the road, across the neighbours front yard and back to the road but not before smacking my parked truck in the driveway, thinking it was comming over the top of it we ran back to the house to see this vehicle spiral up and land on the road on all 4's, take off down the street dropping various parts of his car behind including the rear bumber w/lic.plate... He was apprehended at a trailer park about 1/4 mile futher south by some gutsy RV owners til police came.(they pulled him out of the car window and wrassled him to the ground).

I forgot to mention he took out the hydro pole & sattelite dish on the front yard as well quite a bit of sod ripped up.

Power had been returned by 11am this morning but is still in temp cables lying across the front yard but alas, no sattelite...we have no cable yet in this rural area.

I spoke with my insurance this morning..........

With the $1,000 ded. on the prop. ins. it isnt worth the claim...the dish is only $80 and the hydro pole free..to us, the yard, Ill repair it myself but my truck..?

The ins. has been fast to move on this....

I have been to Quinte West OPP for the traffic report and relayed it to now speaking with the adjuster,,,not just the agent. This fellow had a suspended licence and was driving a borrowed vehicle or one not in his name anyway but apparently, not stolen according to the OPP.

My question to those that know:

My truck is a 1993 GMC 4x4...yes, it is old...Forgot to mention it is a write off acccording to the police.

Hardly worth anything for year etc... but, this truck was in mint shape, well maintained and running, a re-built motor installed last February, new rubber and rims this past week, new break and fuel lines as well in-line fuel pump this past month. Plans for this truck were great with the body work just stARTED ON IT in readiness for the paint job I wanted.

My ins. company had recent pics of the truck due to value I didnt agree with on coverage and I rewarded by them by a larger premium for it....

I may be jumping the gun here but it'd be sure nice to get some inside knowledge prior to me getting royally screwed by these folk which is a nightmare I have heard of before.

If they right it off.....do I keep the truck too...say if I only get what a '93 is worth?..(100%-I wouldnt keep it if the frame is bent)

If they repair it...How far can I go in getting them to bring it back to the shape it was in before the mishap?.and do I get to be 100% happy about the work>

I always thought I had too much insurance, now I know why...but just how much is enough. I didnt have collision on it..!!(yet)

The appraiser will be here this evening and I just dont want to get burnt...we have been through quite a bit in our lives and wont stand at all for any further screwing..!

Any assistance with this is greatly appreciated...

please PM if you wish to keep annonymous...

    Thank-You

  16. nice cats Joe.....love the jon-boat too, seriously got to pick one of them up, it'd be so handy.

I dont ever target catfish but when,(In-frequent angler) guests drop by I generally hook them up with, 'THE GUEST-GEAR' for off the dock or putt'n in the small tinny......lol,

..usually Med-power w/fast tip rods for smallies or bluegils,(8-12lb mono), quite often they'll hook into cats the size of yours in that pic......Crap, Joe, I had no idea what a great fight they are...bending the heck out of the equipment almost max arc, complete with headshakes.

We do have an incredible population of them and Ive yet to see a small one. This is in water that rarely changes colour tho, due to the steady current...

Dont think I'd ever eat one from here...naw, not at all..lol

We ate catfish when I was working down your way, but then there was quite a bit of other menu items you wouldnt plate up these parts too.

Good to see you doing the local river thing as well as the big water.

I just dont see enough current pics of that beautiful part of the country...ahh memories...Thanks man.

Joe: Charmaine has been searching the net for this recipe for quite some time, preparing the dish but it just isnt the same. Anychance you might have the recipe for true 'BiscuitsNgravy"...PM me if you come across one..I'll owe ya big time for that.

Just reminded me of something...Did I ever thank you for them jeans....lol..they had been mailed back werent they.

    Best Fishes,

    -Pete

  17. ..I should add that a longer rod then usual is used to get your line away from swinging under/away from obstructions, other anglers etc...and I use braided line spooled to a min. 300 series spinning gear w/ 12-16' of (double the diam of main line) flurocarbgon leader. (Seagur)

-#8PP & #12 Seagur I beleive is what I used, been a couple of years but I still see the anglers out each winter, them ones who arent on the ice anyway.

EDIT: It's been about 10 years now,but when the twins were younger, I'd take them up to the bridge/dam, in Hastings (right by the main hywy heading north/south.)...to learn how to use a Rod/Reel and catch pannies at the same time by the dozens...

Just about the only fish that we pulled out of there were bluegils-rock bass....I dont recall anyone catching pickeral......a few smallish catfish yes or the odd smallie around 1-lb but that was it. I knew if we ventured up stream a little to the flats as was mentioned we couldve gotten into some picks but those outings in those days were only for the kids.

  18. tb4me,

I am also on the Trent but a considerable distance further south and have fished the 1st & 2nd dams, usually for the "Picks"..once musky season has closed.

You can do this through the winter at the 1st dam, I head out once the 'NO-Fishn Bluz' set in.

For the net required to lower anywhere from 8-40+ feet just grab an old net you may have lyin around your shed or basement and a 26-28" bicycle rim, W/braided line SEW the net to the outside of the rim.

Next-get some of that nylon rope (3/8") lengthy enough to reach your desired amount and split the weave enough to tie the 3 separate lengths at equal distances apart on the rim (Tripod) and again (Sew w/PP) to make firm the connection. Your good to go!

No sinkers here. fish right beside the current but not in it, 3/8-5/8oz jig heads tipped w/worms or minnows.

Crap...1st remove the SPOKES from the bicycle rim prior to sewing on the net....

    -bNb

  19. Sly....Never to Be Forgotten my freind!

Our condolences Donna and to the Family..

Distance made getting together difficult these past 5 years but Shane, you were never far from thought.

I know you'll have peace now..To one of the most thoroughly giving people one will ever know!

    Peter & Charmaine...
