had the boat out today and my 2008 Optimax started stalling at idle and while in gear at low RPM`s It starts fine and runs perfect at speed.
First thing I thought was plugs and they are the original plugs in it, any suggestions?
Thanks
Check fuel filters (should be a large and a small). Water fuel separator if u have one. Could also be something in fuel (bad fuel). Possibly Carbs could use a cleaning.

Congrets man! You'll have almost enless areas to explore with your family.
I want to thank everyone for the well wishes! We are looking forward to this new adventure!

We have a trailer at Bluewater Resort, it's in the little bay just beside Paragon Marina with the big cruisers and the town dock. Good for you for chiseling on the price, the real estate agents up there are notorious for overpricing. I'll see ya when I see ya up there in September, I'll keep an eye out for your boat.
I know the spot. You'll see me around all summer, still renting till September. My daughter likes going to the town centre or picnic island for poutine. i also head into north bay to fish. I'll look for your boat.

I know where you are. I go up that channel on occasion going to or coming back from North Bay. We' have to wet a line sometime. We are up pretty much every weekend from may twofer till thanksgiving.
Where is your place? Stop by the cottage when i take it over in September, look for my starcraft.

Here's my observation - I've been watching the Simcoe, Couch and Port Severn/Honey Harbour real estate market since September 2010. I took a job in Barrie with the intent of moving to the area when my wife finds a job in her field. Almost all the waterfront homes I've been following since 2010 have not sold with some being on the market for over 2 years. Why - IMHO they are way overpriced. The owners still think that the baby-boomers from the GTA are coming with wads of cash to buy their properties. That ended in 2007 with the market crash. Now the BB are fueling the GTA condo market. I've watched some prices drop $50k and still no buyers.
So when it comes time to buy I'll be making an offer that is reasonable but I doubt the owners will think so.
let's just say that my offer was not reasonable and we haggled from there. Right circumstances, softening market and you can get a deal.

The one right across from marina row towards the bottleneck??
My slip is at Nautilis. You would head out towards Royal Island and sweep around Mermaid.
It looks straight at Beausoliel island, right down the slow zone to the outer channel (kinda on the corner of a mini bay).

Congratulations to you and your family. You'll enjoy the area. There's plenty to do within a very short distance.
Which cottage on Mermaid? I'm always tooling around on the weekends. Beige Larson fishn'ski w/ a green top.
Gray and white with the gray boathouse that is in need of repair. I believe it is "Maclean" cottage. I run a black and white starcraft, black top. I'll look for your boat!

I appreciate all the responses. After careful consideration and the proper inspections and some due diligence, we put an offer in on the cottage. After some back and forth it was accepted and we firmed up on friday. Close in september, super stoked! However lots of blood, sweat and tears on the horizon!
Cheers

Thanks for the input. Some great points. I have fished the area many times and it certainly is tough, that's why i think a guide could help to understand the water better (musky and pike). The cottage we are looking at has deep water off the dock and is close to the main channel, but out of the way enough (on mermaid island, never could afford a mainland drive to) to not drive us crazy, but we do enjoy the boat watching. Any other points are appreciated!
Cheers

Hi All,
I am looking at buying a cottage in honey harbour, Gbay. We have rented in the outer islands for a while and love the area. Would like to hear opinions on the fishing and what you think of the area in general. Also any suggestions of guides I could hire to help learn the area better and techniques, if i decide to purchase.
Cheers

According to Snopes, this is false and the email has been circulating since 2006. You need to remove the tick manually by tweezers.
I have experienced ticks on our island for years. The best way has been a little plastic tick twister you can get from the vet for (at least if you use revolution) free. Never a problem taking them off with the dogs, kids or myself.

Asking this for a friend we were out on the bay of quinti on the weekend and his trolling motor battery's died so we were trying to troll with his 90 mercury witch was to fast he put out the drift sock witch got us slow enough but then found he couldn't steer. We had the drift sock straight out behind the boat how do you guys rig up a drift sock to slow down
I am going to try this technique, it is supposed to help with boat steering, especially in heavy winds. http://www.lindyfishingtackle.com/fishingresources/articles/fishingbaitandtackle/putasockinit
On the advice of other members i purchased socks from cabelas, they have a sale going on them, because of the weight system which help with deployment.

I've had Blue Sea Systems ACRs on numerous boats and road vehicles. They are very good quality and easy to install. The manual is only moderately well written but take your time and follow it closely and you'll have no problem. Be sure you use adequate guage wire on the primary leads.
I have no experience with a bep VSR. Never heard of it.
Another place to look is Yandina Marine Electronics. They're quality is good and customer support is great.
Thanks. I guess i should add that the main reason for the ACR is to have the capacity to charge two batteries while running, and save the crank from being drained while using my electronics. Other suggestions welcome.

I am adding a battery to my boat for the house accessories. The other will be dedicated for starting. I was wondering if anyone is currently using either the blue seas ACR or the bep VSR and how they have performed for them, ease of installation and any other pros and cons.
Thanks

So I ordered a new Lund 1800 Alaskan with a 75 hp yamaha tiller late March. I just got a call from them
saying the motor is going to take 2+ months to get. This would stretch my delivery time-frame to 4 months.
Am I being un-reasonable thinking this is rediculous that it took a month to find this out and that I have to wait
4 months for a new boat / motor combo?
I ordered a starcraft with the new 150 merc on it in march. 2 weeks ago they called, after saying it was coming at the end of the month, to say it would be delayed because of the motor until at least July. At first they said there was nothing they could do, i asked for the showroom one, it was sold. Long story short, after a well worded e-mail I will be getting the showroom one with my upgrades (except now parts of the top are delayed until july). Makes you wonder!

Zone 14 openned May 1st.
And yes, Honey Harb is Zone 14 I do believe.
Great. Cheers. I'll be in a gray starcraft!

Spent the day in the waters around Honey Harbour yestrday for the pike openor.
It was the slowest fishing I have ever seen. I guess the weird weather has screwed things up.
Water temp was 46 in the main bodies and 46 in the back bays!!!. That is lowest I have seen it there on openor.
I got skunked after 8 hours of fihsing, My buddie got one OOS bass and that was it! We talked to 3 other boats and none had even a strike for the day.
My recomendations if you are going this weekend is maybe put it off for a awhile and let the water warm for a week or two.
I did however have a follow from what might of been the largest pike I have ever seen, the fish was about 46 inches with an insane girth, 30-35 pounds is my guess. Right to the boat and sunk away as I started my figure 8. We came back later in the day for her but she didnt show. My personnel best is a 30 pound class fish in my avatar and this fish may have been bigger.
Come on sun and warmth!!

I am looking for someone who does quality rod repair in or around hamilton/burlington. I have two St.croix musky rods that need some eyelets repaired. Your references would be appreciated!

So the plan is to get a gently used vehicle that will be used to haul our expanding family around and tow a boat. Where does someone get a hitch installed besides the dealer? It will be a 7 passenger suv.
I'm sure I've seen it discussed here previously, but I couldn't find it in my searches.
Thanks guys.
Hitch factory on the mountain in hamilton. They do the installs for lots of dealers. I just went direct to them and they were half the price for a Class 3 hitch.

uh oh, I have to watch my backgrounds around you
Yup, that's the one. It's a good place to walk the tracks in the summer, especially now that OVR is not running.
That's my great uncles place! Great area. I've run into a few bears over the years along those tracks. Some nice fishing spots around that area! Very jealous!
Enjoy

Love em all! BC offers up great stuff!

There is a public launch straight down from village marina (just drive past village straight to the water). Then park at Joe's parking back beside the town centre. Bit of a walk but only cost $10 total. If you have a partner just get him to drive around to pick you up at the town dock. A little time consuming but saves money, did it for a couple years.
