siwash Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Hey folks, I only have one unit with the card loaded up on one of my units (the unit up at the front). Do you guys run cards in all of your units or just select ones? Thanks!x

But if I'm going to have only one screen with Navionics, it's going be the screen where I sit and drive the boat (steering wheel or tiller) under full power. Afterall, that's where you want to look at "Navionics" to "navigate".. 1
Terry Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 With my garmin units I was able to put the Navionics map I bought on all the units I own and are registered with garmin for no extra money 1

I often fish from the bow and power with the trolling motor... so I suppose i am "navigating" from the console and the bow
fishdawg Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 Regardless which brand of electronics you're using, it's helpful to have mapping at both the helm & at the bow & to them & your trolling motor all networked together. You can drive around, do some side imaging and hit waypoints at the helm & when your at the bow, you can see the waypoints and have your trolling motor navigate you to them directly. Maybe a little overkill for some anglers but it's really cool & convenient when it all works. 1
BillM Posted May 16 Report Posted May 16 If you don't own units that share mapping (Like the HB Solix) you'll need a card for each graph. I run maps cards in both my Helix 12s. 1
siwash Posted May 17 Author Report Posted May 17 (edited) Went into Radio World the other day and chatted with the fellow at the counter. I went in to buy dongles that I want to use to connect the Helix 7 and Helix 5. I already have an ethernet cable set up between the two. He said they won't communicate.. the 5 wasn't made to do so. I am surprised by this. It has the port to plug in the dongle.. can anyone confirm this? a friend said they should communicate with the dongle/ethernet setup. Another interesting thing he said - he also informed me about something called Glonass. Apparently it's a Russian sattelite system that is more accurate once you are north of Gravenhurst. Apparently, the coordinates can be off from time to time with the default setting? He said it can be turned on from the unit you're using for navigation.. anyone heard of this? Terry Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 Yeah it’s the Russian gps system my garmin echomaps will not work with it , but my garmin gpsmap units do it’s just a toggle of a switch and it and regular gps work together . Glonass locks on real quick but I don’t really see much difference in accuracy, maybe if I fished way up north more often it would
siwash Posted May 17 Author Report Posted May 17 I see. So for central Ontario (say up to the French) the regular gps is fine then?
Terry Posted May 17 Report Posted May 17 Yes, it really much farther up north where Glonass shines Imo 1
BillM Posted May 18 Report Posted May 18 I've never switched my gps settings and whatever the default is has worked from here to Kenora just fine. 1
