An update to my previous thread, the handle on the G Loomis 1562 GLX prototype handle rebuild is now done.

As per the customer's request the original decal was not removed so a work around was required, building and installing the new handle from the back of the blank.
It does present some challenges especially when the customer states exactly where the reel will sit with new fixed reel seat, which in this case was 8.5"s from the back of the rod. And while the customer is a young man he wanted the rod restored in an Old School fashion, figured Walnut wood seat, grip inserts  and wood/mushroom but cap. The next step will be to replace the original garbage Recoil guides with high quality Fuji's.

Old school , pretty much what's on the end of my IM6 1562 that i put together late 80's, way nicer seat though 👍

Thanks Dave, but back in the 80's I wasn't putting those seats on either. 

In fact my first float rod build was on an extended 10.5' S Glass and it had an aluminum seat.
I had neither the skills, knowledge or the lathes back then to make seats so all my builds were a factory seat of some kind.

😆 There are days when I certainly feel that way Ron. Thanks for the props and yes we are due for a good chin wag.

I had a grey Premier 1562 before the IM6, looks like a black Grice and Young Avon there.  Buddy that got me into float fishing had a 3 piece Lamiglass graphite 13 footer, it was a heavy blank in weight, Loomis was still working for Lamiglass I think when it came out

After my Lami S-Glass I had the graphite Lami 3 piece for a short spell, ya heavy, very tip heavy. When Gary moved on to found his own company I was quick to by the 1562 Premier, a much nicer rod to fish than the Lami. The reel strapped to all three   of those rods (pictured above) is indeed a Grice & Young. In fact it's still strapped to the Premier and is owned by a friend who still fishes it on occasion. I have offered several time to buy back from him, so far......no luck!

I worked with and fished with Bill Spicer a few times back then, he bought the Grice and Young when I got one of Lorne's Stantons, this was well before Bill's fly fishing gig. The Stanton was followed by a gold Smith and Smith Streamaster which went on the IM6.   I wasn't a fan of the  line getting behind the spool of the Avon, I still have visions of pink Ande wrapped up there
