duke2555
Been reading a bit about fuel/water separators...anyone using one on their fishing boat/outboard motor? Are they worth the investment? Do they help with ethanol in gas nowadays? I have a 40hp 4 stroke Merc (looking to replace with a 60hp 4 stroke Merc), any suggestions for a fuel/water separator? Thanks
BillM
Been running one every since I picked up my Lund Pro Sport years ago. Replace the filter every year or so, cheap insurance. I've got my main and kicker hooked up to this.
aplumma
The short answer is yes they are worth it. They become even more valuable if you moor the boat in the water for an extended time. The fuel as it heats up and cools causes moisture to condense inside of the fuel cell. I have a 70-gallon aluminum fuel cell on a boat that is moored in the water and the water separator gets emptied every 2 months regardless of run time. The bassboat at the house gets emptied once a season not moored both had some water. I also use sta bil 360 in all of my gas. So far I have not had any fuel issues on the boats. bigbuck
At the bare minimum a fuel filter that separates water. I had a water in the fuel issue a few years ago and it wasn’t fun. Took 3 filters after a trip to the marina to get the water out. Royal pain.
