misfish Posted July 30, 2021 Report Posted July 30, 2021 I have gotten tired of running out and for propane . Been looking at those dome charcoal BBQ,s . Weber's,Napoleons . Just crazy prices IMO . Was at wally world and this one caught my eye and was marked down to $85 from $120. SAVINGS. It has all the same features as the high $ ones . I really like the basket on the bottom. Just dump the coal grill and just dump in a bag the next day or so . Easy clean up. While I was there, I noticed the temp gauges 4 probs. Marked down to $15 from $29. Another big saving. Will work for both the BBQ and smoker .And there was my charcoal, KingSford pro. This unit for the price, I will be happy if I get 2-3 years out of it. The big draw to going this was, it will be a great addition to my smoking. Smoke in the Big Chief and finish off with the heat and smoke I will need instead of the oven . I can just smoke a big butt pork in this thing . I need to find one of those hinged grills so I can add more coal and wood when needed ,while doing indirect heat cooking or smoking . Today was fire up and just get it seasoned and any unwanted flavors. It sure heats up fast. Big batch of home made burgers Saturday. Since I got the vac pac,I can do this. LOL Let the new cooking adventures begin. Oh, this years shepherds are going to have some great flavor this fall . Think I,ll do a bunch of elephant garlic this fall as well. 1
ketchenany Posted July 30, 2021 Report Posted July 30, 2021 You are the smoker dude! just saw the news and a few propane tanks went up in smoke.
misfish Posted July 30, 2021 Author Report Posted July 30, 2021 I could not wait to play. After an hour of seasoning, there was plenty of heat to cook. I had to try the new toys. So, put 3 burgers on to see what,s what. The temp prop worked great. I even double checked with a manual one. Very close. The great thing is,there was very min of coals and the burgs cooked nice and slow and no flare ups. Time to chow down. Mama burgers and a nice papa burger. 19 minutes ago, ketchenany said: You are the smoker dude! just saw the news and a few propane tanks went up in smoke. Ya that was a banger Albert . So I bought a meat thermometer for my BBQ, I stick it in and while holding it my hand burns!!! BUT it works. Wrist is rare! One year we BBQed lamb for New Year's day in front of the garage, charcoal . . . We kept tasting to make sure it was cooked! Almost didn’t make it in the house! And yes wine was involved! 1
misfish Posted July 31, 2021 Author Report Posted July 31, 2021 Just did up the full batch of burgs . I went out and got wood chunks of hickory and apple . WOW,what a nice addition of flavor to the burgs. Just put in 4 chunks, 2 apple 2 hickory. Lots of heat left, so 6 taters on now for tater salad to go with the pull pork Sunday.
