I do lubricate the components on the side of the motor that are visible. Also I clean it all out about every handful of trips. 3 years strong on my gen 2 Ulterra without any issues. Also if you decide to use an external transducer for the bow... there is a way to do it cleanly. I did a variation of this with a weed eater recoil. Works very well.
