Bay of Quinte

Recommended Posts

Hello! folks.  I was just wondering if by chance anyone from this forum is going down for the opener, I will be there the first two weekends  in MAY fishing out of Hey Bay . IT's  been a while since I have done the spring walleye . Any sign of the walleye coming in to the Bay Yet .?   Any info on conditions down that way would be helpful thanks .

Walleye have been in the Bay since November feeding all winter. If I were you head out of Hay Bay and into the main portion of the Bay near Thompson Pt & Sherman Pt and search for active schools of fish trolling with deep diving crankbaits and worm harnesses. Match the depth your bait is running to the depth of the biggest concentration of fish. Troll between 0.9-1.7 mph.

Stay in Hay Bay, you will find them there, if you look in the right places. Water temp will lead you in the right direction.

There are LOTS of walleye there - all the time.  You can hit them in many places, with a variety of presentations!  Out of Hay Bay, you can fish the outer 3rd of it, into Long Reach and Down into Picton Bay.  You def. stick right in Hay - you can drift and drag and catch a lot of fish!

    • Fishing Hay Bay

I'm almost ashamed to admit this ( lol), but I'm fishing Quinte for the first time at Hay Bay. We're staying at Bayview on Hay Bay cottages next weekend and I was hoping I could get a few pointers.  Wondering if it's a bit to early for walleye as friends have suggested that later in the Fall is better. I read a post that the Uzzick spinner works great but I can't find a single place around the GTA that sells them. I'll try the usual trolling with raps, worm harnesses and some spinners.

Heading up tomorrow for the weekend to stay at Bear Creek cottages for the weekend. Anyone been this time of year? We are just going to have some fun and look for some walleye. Going to be a treat to have an actual cabin to stay in for once!!! Fall is my favorite time for walleye and should be interesting as I have never fished Nip before. Let me know if you are in the know.. Dale
