Finished off the fresh air supply for the stove.
Got to do some testing out and it draws perfectly!!!
Need to try some different pellets as the one's I have are softwood pellets and they don't burn hot enough for my liking.
They also produce too much ash which impedes the quality of the burn. 

 

Got the stand pipes for the sprinklers installed as well.
There's one at each end of the roof.

Good weekend @ the cabin.
Here's a good pic of my plumbing vent (capped off until the rest of the plumbing is in) and the rear standpipe for my sprinkler.

Got the service entrance for my solar panel wiring installed.
The conduit runs all the way to the basement.

Still need to install the flashing on the roof.
My supplier was closed for inventory most of last week.

Finished the spray foam work on the rest of the window headers and got some wiring and more wall insulation done.
I now have lights in the entrance, bedroom and washroom. :)

Standing at the bottom I could barely see the top.

Pellet stove is good. Just need to finish the insulation so the heat doesn't leave straight through the ridge vent. 😜

Made it out to the cabin. 😁
First time since October.
Light was really flat so the sledding was not a lot of fun as you couldn't see squat and hitting snow humps was pretty sketchy at times. The good news is the locals have plowed some decent roads on the lake and my neighbor has plowed right to his place and put in a great big parking lot for us. 😁

Did some trail packing and left it to harden up.
Not as much on the ground so far this winter and I was banging rocks so I will have to bring out the shovel and move some snow onto the trail. The snow we get here is really sugary and doesn't pack well at all and doesn't give much traction.

Now for the bad news, I blew a tire on the trailer on the way home and while I was changing it out I noticed the other tire has some pretty bad cracking going on on the inside of it. My second spare has a rim leak so unless I can fix it tonight I won't be going out tomorrow. 😪

Spent a lot of time running the generator so I could sit in front of my fan to cool down.

Started work on the South roof and got about 3/4 of the porch roof done before I ran out of screws.

Temps are supposed to be good next weekend and I hope to get a bunch more roofing done.

 

 

 

 

 

I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one,  but what fittings are you going to be using for your 2" poly pipe?

 

I ask because I deal with this stuff all of the time and hate working with it. There are only a couple of fittings that will actually hold pressure with out coming apart above ground with this stuff. I assume with all that bedrock, your not going to be burying the line.

I'm using schedule 40 elbows, tees, couplers and slip to 2" NPT. 

My pump puts out 85psi but is 200' away from the cabin.

You should be using this style of compression fitting that Cambridge Brass calls a Campak fitting. The look like this

It's a compression style fitting, but that little pinching screw makes all the difference. After the fitting is assembled and tightened, you clamp down those screws and the ridges inside the fittings bite into the outside of the poly pipe and give it some mechanical restraint. You can use these fittings above grade with no backfill and not have a problem.

 

Although the instructions say they are not required for a Campak fitting I always like to use the stainless steel poly pipe inserts with them anyways for some extra piece of mind.

 

A regular CB Compression type fitting is the one you want to avoid. These will seal poly pipe well but do not offer any mechanical restraint whatsoever. These fittings are designed to be burried, and the weight of the fill is what restrains the pipe. These fittings just seal.

 

Don't use this style:

 

Or else your going to have some dramatic failures.

Just curious as to what you'll use to power your fire pump Dave, will it run off a gas powered generator  or do you have hydro at your place ?

Yeah I'm specifically talking about the 2" poly line from the pump. It generally comes in 50' rolls and you have to add your own termination to it. Best way is to fusion weld on a cam lock fitting but I that's not really an option for a home owner.

 

Fusion weld > Campak > CB Compression.

 

For smaller than 2" the regular compression fittings work just fine. It's the 2" that won't hold more than ~50psi and that's after being tightened with a pair of 48" pipe wrenches by a guy who you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

Actually I got mine in 100' rolls.

And am using cam locks that fit inside the pipe and are then double clamped on.

Finally got things together and was going to the cabin today but there was an issue.

I've been battling a fierce flu bug since mid-January  and haven't been out but once in January.

I guess the battery went flat and froze due to me not plugging the sled in for months and today I went to start it and nada. Even after being plugged in for a couple of days she was dead flat. 😪

Got a new one from CT and it's currently on the bench charging.

Maybe I'll get out tomorrow.  🙄

I can't believe that battery only lasted 12 1/2 years.

Finally made it back out to the cabin after a long winter of sickness. 
Still recovering from a really bad flu bug that hit me hard starting in mid January.

No commercially plowed road to the hydro power plant this year.
Only privately plowed and somewhat blown in after all the winds we've had.

Tons of snow has dropped since the last time I was out at the end of January.

The trial was knee to waist deep in places.
Got stuck a few times. 

Got a bunch of packing done.

Damn ravens been ripping up my Tyvek again.

Back out next weekend.

Got out to the cabin today and got some trail maintenance done as well as hauling a bunch of gas in.
Ordered up 60 bags of cellulose to blow in the attic that will be delivered this week.
Should be able to haul a bunch in next weekend.
