The OP sent the photos on, and I offered to post for him. I don't recognize the reel at all. The few stamped markings dont offer much.

Anybody else have anything to offer?

There is a brass cage that is common to British Centerpins, and also was utilized in BC reels in the early years.

The fact that the cage in this case is for a person who would reel with their right hand, is making me lean to BC.

I emailed a buddy of mine who is a bit of a collector and this was his reply.

The reel looks to be a general float/mooching reel of the Hardy Longstone type, it does not seem to be of high quality though. Sorry, I don't know who the maker would have been.

Not much help I suppose but an avenue to explore. Ties in with Floatman55's British Centerpin theory as well.

I've seen very similar reels at markets and antique shops here in BC...almost bought an identical reel actually, but picked out an old wooden peetz instead...if you posted on a BC forum you might get some replies....cool piece of history there

The mystery continues. I sent the photos to John Milner who has made centerpins for many years. He said likely British, but could not provide more than that.

Thanks for your efforts all!
