Any window guys out there

Recommended Posts

I have casement windows in my home, with cranks as openers. I cannot get it open. It won't turn at all. Sprayed with DW40 and nothing. I have no way of removing the crank casing to see what's wrong . . .

Any one have any idea how to fix this problem? This thing is jammed solid!

Did you remember to open the lock on the other side of the window casing? :whistling:

I did that once, felt like a dunce too. :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

I knew that was coming :w00t:

MANY TIMES! I've been cranking them for six years :wallbash:

You should be able to remove the cranking assemblies.

I have windows like that out front and they started to get tough to open. Remove the two screws and the handle system should be able to pull out (at least mine did). The gears inside were all corroded and Home depot sold me the replacement set. I seem to remember thay had a couple different crank systems to choose from.

Pull the screen, make sure the lock is open, and try to open it while GENTLY pushing on the window frame. It that works, you should be able to see the mechanisim at the base of the window. If it looks pooched, pull it, go to Window city ?? on Steeles by HWY 27 and they should be able to help you out.

If they are Pella windows, call their service line and you may have a warrantee claim.

Good luck.

I tried that. Can only open an inch or so. Don't want to cause more harm.

Thanks

Have you tried C4 and some Det cord? :whistling:

No, in our neighbourhood it would be considered "family unrest" and bring attention from the boys in blue. :D

All I want is to open the window :(

Have you checked for a loose screw or anything blocking the track? Check with a level to see if it is warped anywhere.

If you would like my Father could fix it for you. He specializes in windows and thinks it might need to be reinstalled.

GF thinks you have screws loose Albertunsure.gif

Take off the handle(usually held on with a set screw)The plastic housing should snap off after that.Inspect and lube the gears. I have seen them come unmeshed if the window is installed too tite, and the frame swells with the humidity.

No screws to get loose! I looked at this thing and everything is inclosed in a steel housing except for the worm gear! I had sprayed it while back and let it sit. I turned the handle and gave the window a gentle push and it started to open :clapping: I gave the track a cleaning sprayed it with lithium grease and also the gears inside the housing, going out it's fine coming back it's a bit rough. I'll let it sit and then give her another go.

But at least now if needed I can take the housing out and get a new one!

To all thanks for your help and "suggestions" C4 a definate no.

Check the nylon roller inside the track that the window runs on. It may be out of round and you had the roller on the "flat" spot when it would not open.

Well you can but it's a trip lol. Couldn't do it without my son for a guide, he does all the heavy stuff (I use to take him fishing, now he takes me )😊. Left my son's place early Sunday morning on our ATVs with all our gear for a 15 km trip, beautiful day light wind, it had rained the night before so trails were nice for riding (not too much dust) .  This is one of countless little back lakes we like to fish, because it's kind of out of the way not many people bother with it.. We usual

    • Hello there.

Hi there, Im new here, hope to get some tips and help from all you experts. I have been bass fishing for the last 2 years, my Personal Best is about 2.5 pounds. I fish a couple local lakes close to my home, but they are pressured lakes so there a bit harder to catch. I should mention i am a bank angler and do not have access to the whole lake, there are very few places to fish from shore on my lake, but i have found one good spot where the bass seem to be pretty stacked but i am having prob

    • Any Eastern Lake Erie fisherman here?

It's been quite some time since I've posted on this forum. There was a time when I would check in several times a day. I made the move to self-employment a few years ago and now I have more time to fish. If my customers had their way I'd be working 7 days a week 🙂 but sometimes you have to put your foot down. I also upgraded from a 14 foot Lund to a 20-foot Tahoe. This allows me to do both pleasure boating with family and fishing. Bought it used back in 2017 and immediately had it fit with a Mot

    • Thermacell units any good?

Mosquitoes bad this year. Likely to do with all the moisture.   The reviews are mostly positive on the Thermacell units. Butane heats a pad that gives off a repellant. Not so good in the wind unless you put up wind of where you are.  What’s the scoop?

    • Espanola? Any one local?

Welcome to summer all!!! (well sort-of) Heading up with a buddy and his young lad to the Espanola area for a few days mid July. Have a few lakes I am looking at but having a devil of a time finding any real reports of the fishing (which I suppose is good). Our plan is to target Wally's and possibly trek in for a brookie or 2 if the logistics of the lakes work out. My buddies kid is just old enough to come with us so this isn't going to be hard core adventure. But we do intend to camp out th
