injured deer (nf)

Recommended Posts

Took a hike in the rouge today and came across a deer that was lying down on some reeds across the river and was bleeding from its mouth or chest.

The river is not frozen over so i could not get any closer to the deer to see exactly what was wrong with him.The deer was alert but for the hour i was watchin him he never got up once..

Found a dead deer at the old mill a few weeks back, next day all that was left were bones, coyotes tore it apart overnight. not sure how it died, called animal services they came and took away the remaining pieces.

Had a couple zoo workers come down and check to see what I was doing once.. Seems someone had been in the valley snaring deer.

Wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if someone took a shot at that doe.. I'd say keep your eyes and ears peeled!!

I figure that a lot of you guys go hunting in addition to going fishing - thought you might give me an idea about using deer bones to make soup - I just made myself a large pot of vegetable soup using beef bones - boy I'll tell you something - nothing like a nice hot bowel of soup on a cold winter day - the soup was fantastic - when I butcher my deer I usually throw away the bones - was wondering if any of you have use the bones to make soup and how did it taste - thanks

    • Asking hunters about deer and colours (nf)

Hi Everyone,  We are doing some plantings this fall and are trying to keep the deer out as much as possible. We are erecting a 6 foot fence and are trying to make it as visual as we can. I have heard an old wives tale that deer can see blue very well but can't see orange. Hence why hunters wear orange but apparently blue jeans are the equivalent to bribing a banana out fishing.  Can any of our local hunters weigh in on this?    Thanks

    • Deer Lake recommendations

Hi all. I'm thinking about checking out Deer Lake in South River this summer. I've never been before but have been searching for info and there isn't much that comes up for accommodations aside from a few resorts, and no marina's. Appreciate any help or advice for accommodation and a boat or any fishing tips. Thanks!

    • Deer hair VS rabbit hair ?

I seen another fly, the same as the one I tied with rabbit hair  but with deer hair. Will the deer hair fly ,throw better and easier ? I know I could make and find out ( which I am going to do ) but just want to know , so I am ahead of the game a bit. Bass season is almost here.   Thanks
