Juicy Jumbos

Recommended Posts

Walked on the lake without an auger (need new blades). A friendly shack owner punched two holes for me and I was very grateful for the kindness of strangers.

Looks like 10-11 inches off good ice now. All caught on a Salmo darter in perch design except two on minnows.

I've caught bigger perch on Simcoe but never measured them...what's the biggest perch you've gotten? I'd like to know what the standard is.

Nice feed of perch you got there. I usually only keep them between 10-12 inches on Simcoe. I got a few 13+ in the fall and a couple through the ice so far this winter, but have not managed any over 14 since last spring. Generally I get a dozen or so 14+ inchers over the course of a year. However I have never landed a perch over 15...and yes I do get out perching alot.

Most of these keepers were between 8-11inches....which is a good average size for up here. I'll typically keep anything over 7" .

A 15" perch is a monster. I'd guess that my biggie from Simcoe this summer was around 14".

My goal is now to catch a 15 incher.

Rod Caster,

Lots of 12" perch come from Nip each winter. I'm off at 4:30 we should walk out to a secret spot I know for some jumbos. Close to the gov. dock.

Ice perch! Are those the smallest size of Salmo darters? How did you fish them? Tip or no?

yes it was the smallest size at the shop. I don't tip them. They were quite aggressive to it, even on standstill you could feel them hammer it.

Toronto weather finally hit positive degrees. Found my PB perch in the afternoon in 10fow, Cooks Bay. Felt like a walleye. They liked Berkeley minnows on a 1/8oz jig. Didn't want perch bellies, guts or perch eyes.

Hello   So last year I stumbled upon a spring perch spot by accident fishing carp... Only problem was it was at the end of the spring bite when I found it and a few days later upon my return the bite had pretty well ended...   So for the past year this spot has been bouncing around in the back of my mind waiting for the right conditions this year to try again   Managed to get out Sunday by boat to keep options open in that great weather we had and although it was slow and steady we had fun

    • Simcoe Jumbos...

So my bro and his lady went out on Sunday to Georgina to try out his new line of glow jigs/flies (he ties his own). Lets just make it short and sweet they killed it! He ties trolling flies for downrigging and bucktails for multispecies. I can vouch for how effective his lures are and how durable/realistic they are, yeah I know this sounds like an infomercial but he deserves some credit. • Last ice jumbos!

Well I decided to call it quits until the softwater after my last day of laker fishing, but this hard stuff didnt seem to be going anywhere, so I had to make one last trip out. The prospect of a perch fry was enticing, so a couple buddies and I headed out to a late season perch spot and made the march out. We're targetting sand/rock transitions getting closer to their spawning bays now. We set up along the ridge, I was the shallowest at 19 feet and they set up in 23 and 32 feet. I started of
