  1. I know lots of people don't like giving there honey holes/ secret spots, but I'm just looking for some nice spots I'm targeting Lakers, bass in general and pickerel, can someone tell me if Parry sound has these species and if not what are some good lakes I love in Etobicoke so I would like a spot max 3 hours away
  2. Hello everyone, I'm going to a cottage on balsam lake from the 16th-20th, hoping to target some pike, walleye, and crappie. From what I've gathered I would guess that pike and walleye are post-spawn and in shallow water (4-10') sitting in the new emerging weeds, and crappie would be in bays, spawning possibly? Also, it might help to know we have a fish finder that has sidescan and can tell us the depth we're in. I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding how to target any of these 3 species on balsam lake. Thanks again.
  3. We are having a regular Fall season this year, some warm days and some cooler. Despite the ridiculously wet spring the grouse are numerous. I finally got out the last week to shoot a few, took a rod along too to shore fish. my son took his Hunter’s and Firearms course this spring and we got out for the first time yesterday. He’s a very good fisherman but just not really into it, he loves hunting though. He’s using a .22 I got for him for his Birthday, neither of us are used to it yet, and while we managed 5 shots at birds yesterday we alas ended up birdless, but he loved it and is pumped to go again. Can’t wait for him to get his first bird!
  4. Quick trip to Nipissing for the Saturday of the long weekend with my brother and son. Started calm and still and we got into a few fish. A few bass were found in the afternoon. We got into more fish at 5pm when it was still calm and then the wind picked up and we had some faster action. We were able to get our 6 fish limit and had a nice feed. Sunday was wet and we had to head back south for other obligations but some more bass were caught off the dock.
  5. Hi everyone, looking for some suggestions for new lakes for spring pike/walleye trip 3/4 from gta. We have been going to the same area and looking to try somewhere new this year. Would prefer a lake with size over numbers. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Has anyone fished the pool in recent years, fished it a few weeks ago a couple of times , caught some bass, but was shocked at the boat traffic and jet skies all over the lake . Has anyone concentrated on fall musky or walleye in recent years. Would love to hear .
  7. Im heading out to Emily provincial park in a few days and am going to try out some fishing while I’m there. If anyone has had any experience with musky or walleye. I do have a canoe so I’m not going to be strictly fishing from shore. Thanks.
  8. Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows anything about muskie fishing in Go Home Lake. Under the MNR review it says that muskie are present in the lake as a major species, although I have heard no news of anyone ever catching one there, and have never seen one there myself. Wondering if anyone has any input about this seeing as the lake is technically a layoff from georgian bay and the gibson river.
  9. Hey all! We're heading up to Antler's Lodge near Mattawa with the family and will have LOTS of fishing opportunities on the Ottawa River. Thinking open water walleye and rocky ledge bass and pike. Anyone have any suggestions for lures and/or techniques you've had success with in that region? Right now I'm thinking swim jigs and crankbait trolling for walleye and for the bass and pike soft plastics or stick baits. Any ideas are more than welcome!!! Thanks everyone! :D
  10. I grew up playing a lot of sports as a kid and I think thats where the love of a good nickname came from lol Sometimes I was given them - Gordy, Gordo, Taco, Drew and Panjo to name a few and sometimes I gave them The Jigging Gnome for my friend Mark is one of my favorites - its started when he caught this walleye Full story from our trip to Shekak Lake is here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/the-jigging-gnome-of-shekak-lake Hope you enjoy Andrew
  11. Back in 2014 our group made a big jump and completed our first fly in In a word it was epic and have been on 3 since then and are headed out again in 2020 PB walleye were caught, we were stranded in Thessalon and so much more A few quick shots below but you can check the full story here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/50-mission-cap-our-first-fly-in
  12. I am spending some writing up reports from old trips and re creating some other ones for my site In 2008 5 of us did a boat in trip to Island 10 Lodge on Lady Evelyn Lake It was the start of a 10 year journey and 4 of us are still doing these trips together You can read the report here https://www.northernjacks.com/post/things-that-go-bang-in-the-night Cheers Andrew
  13. Not exactly what I was targeting but fun to catch regardless! Walleye population is nice & healthy on the St. Lawrence River! They love those Z-Man Diesel MinnowZ!
  14. It seems like a lot of pike are getting into the Kawarthas now... not sure if it’s a good thing tho? Here’s the vid of our fishing catching day ? https://youtu.be/kVUu4xlVqv0

  16. I've been fishing Kashagawigamog, Canning and other lakes in the chain for over 20 years. In last few years I've seen a decline in the walleye fishing. I'm wondering if others have seen the same thing. Bass and muskie continue to be good, but all my usual walleye spots have slowed way down or completely dried up. I've heard the gravel in the spawning area up on the drag river in Halliburton is covered in moss and that may be affecting the walleye spawn. If any others who fish the lakes have any thoughts I'd love to hear from you. Maybe a group of us can do something to improve things?
  17. Here’s a vid of how we made out on Quinte Dec 17, we had pretty good success up to dec 24 (open water).... has anyone been out since? How’s the launch conditions in Bath?... wouldn’t mind giving another ho from the boat if possible https://youtu.be/DzEzlxluugs
  18. Hi all, Got out on Saturday twice. I headed out at sunrise by myself to try for some crappie before the family was awake. Only stayedd for an hour and caught nothing except a breathtaking sunrise. Scooted back for breakfast and then chilled till after lunch when I headed out with my son Jack to meet some friends and have a shot at some walleye. Jack spent most of the couple of hours riding around on mum's Tundra (he says we should give her the old Bravo back...LOL) and chopping trees down with his machete. He did fish for a bit and landed a 25"er. He made sure everyone knew it was the biggest of the evening. Pike and whitefish were also around and we headed back just before dark. Perfect day with spring like temps of +5C.
  19. Bit late coming around with this fall recap. Haven't done nearly as much writing this year but Coral's char and the Sutton speck reports were quite big undertakings that drained the batteries. Anyways, the fall fishing this year was incredible. Muskie fishing was beyond expectation, very pleased plenty homework, tweaking of this and that, some experimenting plus the new boat all worked in my favor. One of our OFC'ers here, Clive, met up with me twice and he wasn't disappointed. Dood surely brought the luck with him and we had a couple awesome big ski days together, 50+'ers galore. Family and friends came aboard for sturgeon and walleye as well. Not as many days put in for those fish, we all made it count when given the opportunity. Biggest was a 66-incher that took me for one heckuva drift. Anyhow, it's hyped, typed and ready now at the site if looking to click on over at... . SEASON'S ENDINGS BIG FISH BENDINGS Thanks for reading along through 2018. Some adventurous plans ahead in the new year so hope you stop in at the site now and again for a read. Best to everyone in the coming season. Bunk
  20. Hi all, We have had fishable ice here for about 3 weeks now but this was my first outing by quad. Only about 4" of snow on the ground here so chose the quad over the sled, better on gas. The lake I went to is accessible from our shore across the lake and through the bush/skidoo trails, always a fun ride. Had to be a bit mindful when I got there as early ice can vary from place to place. We have 12" on our lake and I'm taking the ice road to work now, but the lake in the video is a different animal to Wabigoon lake. It is deeper and tends to freeze later. Also with the North/ South orientation of the lake it tends to freeze first at the access point and up to a week later in the main basin where I fish. After some checking turns out like most of the lakes here it froze over in one night as the thickness was 8"-9" of clear black ice at the landing and in the main body. Fishing was good and I got a limit within an hour and a half, lots of missed bites too, good fun.
  21. Hey y'all, I'm wondering if anyone has any juice on Horwood Lake (Timmins district). My brother and I won the early bird draw at Perchin' for MS this year - so were headin' to Horwood Outpost with Richard for 7 days at the end of June! I'm sure we'll have no trouble puttin' together shore lunch - I'm specifically interested in 411 on CPR fish - BIG 'eyes, Giant 'eyes...and goliath gators.... I'm also interested in trying to piece together a whitefish bite...and smallies! We've got 7 days, so we're gonna cover a lot of water. I'll be bringin' all the outfits - bottom bouncers, boards & counters, all the casting outfits, etc etc. Presentations, I've got covered... I'm wondering more about patterns. Thought I'd throw it out there and see if I get any great tidbits - cheers!!
  22. As any parent of young children knows... finding the time to get out on the water can be challenging. Since I need to release my "cabin fever" somehow, I decided that I was going to start making my own custom (walleye) bucktail jigs. Just thought I would share some of the ones I've done recently. A couple of my buddies told me that I should start selling them, but as of right now it's just for my own use and enjoyment. If there's demand... I might considering selling them.
  23. Hi all, Got out for a couple of hours on Lake Wabigoon this morning. Instead of sledding out I went further up the lake and drove out of the Reserve's landing to almost the middle of the lake. 24' FOW, light action rods with spoons and minnow heads. Started slow but at 11am it went nuts and caught a bunch of crappie, a tullibee, a jumbo perch, a huge Jackfish, and some sauger and walleye. The sauger and walleye were small but I ended up keeping the ones that blow out their swim bladders. Nice bunch of fish for my neighbour, I don't have time to clean or eat them as I am heading to the Caribbean in 2 days for 2 weeks of sun, sand, family, and FISHING!
  24. Took a couple of the kids from work fishing for walleye, yup...my job involves taking people fishing? I wish I could show the pictures of their smiling faces, but confidentiality policies don't allow. Anyway, I promised to cook the fish for them eat the drop in centre the next day for lunch, they were smiling even more, nice to have a job where you feel like you make a difference to the people you provide service to. Anyway, enough rambling, this is what I came up with..... Cracked Black pepper and rock salt sautéed Walleye and Bacon sandwich on Pumpernickel, with a sweet chilli and horseradish mayo served with fresh cut, homemade onion rings and salad garnish. OH YEAH!
