  1. I am completely baffled by this issue. I purchased the flat four tester and it appears to work just fine. running lights light up, LT and RT both work and when I press the breaks both LT and RT light up so it appears power is coming out of the vehicle. I just got off the phone with EZ Loader to order new lights and they tell me that it is not the light. According to them, the lights I have are all one unit. If the LT and RT lights work then the break light is not burnt out as it is the exact same light. Hence it is not the light.

I am not sure what to do now. I guess I will find someone with a pull vehicle to hook up my trailer to see if they have the same issue. If not then it will be the vehicle and if yes it will be the trailer. How to correct it baffles me. If anyone lives in the Rutherford and Bathurst area and has a pull vehicle, I would love to swing by or vice versa to attach my trailer to your vehicle.

  2. Thanks, it is the break lights on the boat and not the car. How can one check the connector to see if the power is coming? The bulb makes sense but I would be surprised if both would burn out at the same time. What is the easiest way to figure out if power is coming in from the vehicle into the connector to make sure the issue is on the trailer and not on the car?

  3. Hello, I just picked up my boat/trailer from storage and connected the 5 way trailer wire connector to the vehicle adaptor prior to towing. Tested the lights and noticed that all lights, night lights, left turn, right turn, hazards work but the break lights do not. Does this mean my trailer breaks are also not working and how can I isolate the cause? Is it a problem with the vehicle receiver or the trailer wire? Any suggestions on what could be the issue, how to identify it and how to fix it would be great.

    Thanks you in advance.

  4. You two donkeys sound like a couple of spoiled, greedy and wealthy cottage owners, posing as caring parents.

You crossed the line when you put a "forged"/fake sign up - end of story!!!!!

I would fish there just because of that sign.

On the other hand - I would never fish a dock with people on or near it, nor would I ever leave a hook behind.

Fact - you don't own the water and we all need to share and follow basic laws (like not putting illegal signs up)

    Take a hike!

Wow, crossed the line. If you see a jaywalker, maybe you should just run him over. Like I said before, to many people here take their fishing far to seriously, especially on a lake called Dalrymple which one could spit across. Clearly you cannot read or you would have read that I have no cottage. Maybe this guy who posted the sign has personal experience that not all fisherman like you profess to be are caring enough to remove a stranded hook.

  5. First, I have no idea who this guy is and I don't own a cottage. However, from my perspective, the guy clearly has kids and is trying to create a safe environment for them so they don't end up with your rusted hook lodged into their foot and an emergency run to the hospital. To many of you are taking this way to seriously. It is simply his way as a father to ask you not to throw sharp objects that can hurt his kids at his dock. Seems logical to me. While I love to fish like the next guy, as a dad, I have to respect his imagination to protect his family. My guess is his dock is not the mecca honey hole on the lake that is worth this fuss and crazy debate leading to a call to the MNR. Maybe tomorrow you can report a jaywalker.

From my perspective, you have way to much time on your hands to cause this guy personal issues with the MNR and possibly police for simply trying to keep hooks out of his kids feet. Furthermore, do you catch the news from BC lately. If I saw someone taking pictures of my home who I did not know, again, as a father and all the crazy people that are out there, I would be pretty pissed as well. From my perspective, your holier than though attitude just caused this guy a very significant headache. But I guess from your perspective, you now have a honey hole to fish and if you are lucky you will catch one bass a year from under that dock. So his personal headache that he will now need to deal with and possible fine must be worth at least one more fish for you this year.

  6. I fish the Callander Bay area every year around this time and would agree that the last two years have been different but I put it on mother nature vs anything else. For about a 5 year period the fishing was fantastic. Then last year the warm water and lower water moved the fish to a different location and a much earlier bite which we off course missed when we arrived for our annual trip. This year was much better but still not the same as the years before and we were also catching many more walleye in the slot and quite a few very small fish but limited number of good size keepers. Numbers were also down from prior years but again, it has been a very cold spring and it simply had not warmed enough yet and the bite was just beginning. Perhaps those 2 year class fish have not moved in yet. Tough to really get a guage on what is going on in only spending 4 days in the area each year. The one thing for sure is the number of small fish cought suggests a very good couple years to come.

  7. I am looking at upgrading boats from my 18 foot sylvan. Would like to go 19 feet, possibly 20 and wider. I need to store it in a standard subdivision double car garage with a single door. must fit on an angle. Since these garages in suberbia all have similar dimensions I was wondering if anyone on the board owns a boat in excess of 18 feet and parks it on an angle in their garage. If you do, brand and model would be great to know. I realize you can get boat dimensions and guess but I am curious what the max length somone on the board has fit? Last thing I want to do is buy one and realize I missed it by an inch.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Are there boat rentals available in Callander Bay? Shoreline fishing possible there? Will be up there during the week of the 13th for the day.

There is great shore fishing available and lots of spots to rent from. Ping me and I will help you out. Just spent another great weekend up there.

  9. Hey guys...I've been fishing nipissing since i was 4 years old..but its been about 4 years since i seriously fished nipissing and i'm pretty confident my old spots might not be so effective...I'm hoping to get tips on where to locate them this year..Thanx alot guys :)

If it worked for you 4 years ago and before, it will work for you again. I have been going to Nippissing for 10 years straight over the same weekend and every year the same spots work. Sometimes better than others and that is mostly weather related. What part of Nip?

  10. The Merc is the Tohatsu as is the Nissan 9.8. Same engine. Tahatsu makes it. I did all this research last year and ended up buying a Nissan from a dealer in Mississauga who imports them from the US. Saved about $400 over anywhere you could get it in Ontario. New with full warranty. If you want me to find his contact info, let me know.

  11. I got into downrigging last year on Lake O for Salmon but would like to hunt some Lake Trout this weekend on Simcoe. Do I need to invest into different lure set ups or will the Lakers hit the same salmon spoons I use on Lake O. If there are any laker guru's on the board, I would sure appreciate info on types of lures and presentations to pick up for the outing, speed I should target trolling and depths this time of year.

Are lakers even hitting in July/August?

    Much appreciated.

  12. Hey guys and gals,

Im looking at going to West Nipissing Resort later this month for a week, has anyone ever been to this resort?

The website looks nice, the cottages look nicem, the pictures look nice, and its located on Nipissing which has a tremendous variety of fishing available - I know the fishing will be great, but how about the resort?

Would love to hear if you've been and what you have to say about it.

Looking to relax, fish, swim, and enjoy northern Ontario.

Ive read 3 or 4 reviews about this place just now and they all say STAY AWAY! :( - Im kind of upset about that, as I had my heart set on it, can anyone confirm this?

Or any recommendations for the Nipissing area at a reasonable rate for a week?

    Thanks

P.S. Its very close to Lakair, and since lots of your go to Lakair each year, maybe some of you have stayed at West Nipissing Resort? If so, please let me know, looking to book ASAP.

    Thanks and tight lines everyone!

I used to stay there quite a bit but have not been there for the past 5 years. When i did stay there, I had nothing but good things to say about it. This time of year, that area is full of pike. Very weedy. The hosts back then were great, not sure if it is still Ian and his wife running it. Best of luck

  13. A friend of mine and I are driving three ppl to the Detroit airport. I don;t have a passport and will wait on the Canadian side for my buddy to get back in to Canada.

On Friday when we picked our guests up, I did the same thing and dmmit of they weren't held up by the CANADIAN border guards and thoroughly checked out. ( especially my Canadian buddy) Needless to say, I sat at the McDonalds for 3 hours waiting for them... wishing I had my fishing gear with me.

So, tomorrow, I am bringing a rod and my tackle bag. Gonna sit on the bank near the bridge behind the University.

I have no clue what the water is like, other than it looks pretty damned fast.

I was thinking of putting a real heavy bell sinker on and set a drop shot rig up. Rig it with some soft plastic pink worms and see what may take it.

Was also thinking about tossing some heavy jigs etc.

I used to fish this area as a kid all the time but it has been some 25 years. As I recall there is some kind of a pier right around the bridge area where people used to fish all the time. It was cement but not sure if it is still there. The typicall patern back then was a heavy bell sinker, a hook set up below the sinker and a hook above and either live worms or minnows. Big channel cats, silver bass, sheephead, carp and other species all around the area back then. As I recall, there was a tackle shop on university avenue around the bridge. Likely long gone but should be some sort shop nearby that will likely give you some local advice. Sorry could not be more help but it has been some time.

If anyone has fished this area at all and have any suggestions, I am all ears to kill an anticipated 2 hours or so. Or maybe I will just have a nice nap in the grass along the river..

Thanks for any help at this last hour.

  14. Cabelas sells the Nissan brand. I had a 9.8 on my last boat and it ran great. The only criticism I would have of that motor is the stow hardware is a wireform and kind of cheap, but then again I never had a problem with it. It started easily and ran very smoothly. What I liked about it was the throttle wasn't spring loaded, so you didn't have to hold on to it to maintain the desired speed. If there wasn't too much wind you could steer with either your main motor or your bow mount. I have a Merc 9.9 pro- kicker now and it runs very good as well. My future son-in-law bought my last boat, the boat with the Nissan kicker, and it hasn't even been used this year, which means it has probably 20 hours on it as I bought it new from Cabelas in 2008. I'd bet he'd part with it at a very reasonable price. If I were going to buy new, I'd recommend the Merc motor, simply because there isn't a heck of a lot of difference in price between the two, especially if you can find a leftover new one. That said, I'd suspect you could buy that Nissan at 50% of new, and I don't think there is a mark on it. Let me know if interested as I'll be on the west arm the 1st 2 weeks of July and could bring it your way.

Thanks, I sent you a PM.
