  1. Good afternoon I haven’t been on in quite sometime but I have a few around here....
  2. Go Get'em! Take lots of pics too!
  3. Guys, There is a 7001 BG that comes in left. it is gold in colour. You might also want to take a look at the RCN61HC - it is the new Record reel from Abu. It has the power handle and the 5.3:1 ratio as well. I found this unit to be better than my 7001 that I have - it felt stronger too!
  4. Interesting discussion and comparison. I agree with Marc about crowned fishermen, not crowned fish! The comparison between the 2 fish types is very similar in my books. I primarily fish for Trout, but I have learned and employ gear and tatics that the average muskie fisher utilizes. For lake trout we used the same reels and rods that muskie fishermen use, baits that are similar in size (one of our best baits last year was a 12" Grandma made primarily for muskie). Most of our trout were caught in 10' of water or less. All fish were handled and care was taken to ensure they were released to live another day - we do this whether we are fshing for muskie or trout, or any other game fish. I spent a lot of money on gear - whether i use it again or not, it does not matter. There is no price on having fun and it is better to be prepared in any case. As for catching - I don't believe there is any one specific fish that is better than one another. it is all relative to the conditions and equipment used for that day and place - it is more about the ENJOYMENT! but i can tell you the 2 big lakers we caught last year were crazy! They faught like big muskies without the big teeth! this one was 59 lbs. this one was 50" long by 30" girth
  5. I've done my dream trip several times and intend to do it again, & again... Great Bear Lake for giant Lakers Tree River and the Coppermine River for Arctic Char & Labrador for big brookies (all catch, hug and release only) Charfinder
  6. Caught a 27 lb lake trout on a metal Shoe-horn on Great Bear lake. I rigged a swiash hook onto a drilled whole at the bottom of the horn, then attached the swivel at the handle end. Had a nice bend to it and rolled at a nice wide turned at about 1.5 km per hour! good sized bait also at around 6 inches. Still have it for my next trip!!
  7. this is my fav - 50" x 30" Lake Trout caught in under 10' of water in Great Bear Lake, July 9th , 2006 at 10:05 am
  8. I have the left handed model 201 te dc and it is trully amazing. You can chuck your bait out a mile with no backlash. Just don't try using it for flipping as you will get a backlash. The chip does not operate well for flipping baits. There is some small adjustments that you should make which are dependant on bait weight and wind, but it is much simpler than other reels that i have had. Very smooth reel!
  9. Here is mine from Great Bear Lake in July. 50 x 30 Lake Trout Charfinder
  10. Here is a quick pic of mine. it is not foldable but i had the person who made it reinforce the model by putting a stringer in between the axles. the spare sits on top of this. it has been many tough trails with no damage.
  11. Eddyk, I have one that is a real cadilac! it was custom built by a professor at Queens university and includes a spare tire and rim, and even a kickstand which will support the canoe in a horizontal position. it was built to qonquer the Dickson lake portage in Algonquin. if you have done that trip before, you will know what i mean about the ultimate dolly! right now it is in my shed, taking up space. i am planning to do 1 more trip into Dickson this spring with it, but if you need it anytime, let me know. we are close enough that i can meet you in Newcastle or somewhere along the 401.
